LeoLea Handwoven Keyboard Sleeves <3
« on: Sat, 13 August 2016, 06:05:51 »
Hello GH Peeps!

I just wanted to share a little project that my sister started.

She is a full time mother of two and recently, acquired a loom and some thread to make some cool things.

I asked her to make me a sleeve that could fit my hhkb and here it is!

sorry for the potato photos.

She is interested in making more sleeves if there is a demand for it.

please let me know any input that you might have. Materials used and color schemes. I think with the current loom, the colorway will be similar to the sleeve in this post.

I would be interested in a 40% and a 60% one. How much do they cost?

Btw the texture and color look awesome.

Thank you for your interest. At this point we do not have a 40% board to refetence with. I think she will stick with 60% for now.

I am asking her to make at least 5 60% sleeves for an alpha sale.

In regards to how much, she has yo run the numbers as she wants to add some things on the next sleeves such as her logo tags, etc.

I'd be down for the sleeve you've shown - very pretty colours and nice craftsmanship.

Thank you for your interest! She is currently weaving the cloth that she will be using to make the next sleeves.

Do you have any suggestions as to what material we should use for the inner lining? and for the rope to secure it?

I don't know much about fabric materials, but I'd like something that wouldn't lint up easily. Don't want little lint bunnies building up between my keys.

copy. we were initially thinking of using some sort of felt but, cheap felt is no good. A high quality soft material is what we are looking for.

Hmm.. I would have to ask her about this. She just started weaving so, maybe in the foreseeable future when she gets a better shuttle.

UPDATE!

she is hard at work completing the next fabric. while we are thinking of other ways to enhance the quality. I have gotten some quotes for the addition of the branding tag and also, how we can further improve the closing mechanism of the pouch.

I'm really enjoying all the in-process weaving pictures and the final product looks cool.

When my sister made me cases, she just used a fleece material as the liner.

Nice! We were thinking of wool but, my sister is afraid it might shrink when thrown in the washer. We are looking at rayon for the inner lining right now. Thanks for the input cap'n!

Will do sir! We plan on making at least 5 sleeves for the alpha sale so we might have to raffle this off. But we'll see might be weeks down the road.

The current colours would go great with a Hyperfuse board but unless you want to make one big enough for a CP-SQ and provide me with the motivation to carry such a large board then yes, orange would be better.  Or any colour that doesn't look nasty next to orange, as both pink and cyan do IMO :thumb:

Once, we start finalizing all the materials we can get an estimate on how much we will charge per sleeve. I need to make a poll to ask how much people are willing to spend on a sleeve like this.

How much bigger would the cpsq be compared to a g80 for example. Next batch (if ever that happens) we can experiment more with different color combinations.

Small update :

We currently, got a quote for the tags. but, the minimum order was 150 tags so we might have to get a 2nd quote or bite the bullet and just make a small custom order even if it costs us  more. This idea is still up in the air right now.

My sister has been busy taking care of the kids and her husband. So, the fabric will take a while to complete. Any free time she has during the day or weekend she is hard at working making it. It is very labor intensive due to the fact that she has a small shuttle that limits the amount of thread to be used between changes.

I hope you guys haven't lost hope :) we will still make this happen no matter what  :thumb:

It's smaller than a g80 (assuming that's the fullsize Cherry) - it's basically a 60% + F row + number pad.  That was a joke though, it's frosted acrylic so wouldn't want to shine it up putting it in a case!  I'll wait for more colours :)

Small Update: My sister finished quite a large piece of fabric. Due to her being a perfectionist she deemed this piece of fabric not worthy of a sale. She will continue making the fabric with less errors. So, for now. please enjoy a picture of my niece with her new blanket.

This might be a longshot but I'd be interested in:
  • red > blood orange > gray > black gradient (I call this the Red Sky at Morning) for a 60%.
  • Sealing mechanism IMO should be a flap with 1 center button or 2 on each side. (or you could do paracord drawstring and a flap )
  • Lining should at least not damage the keyboard and probably keep water off my keyboard.
  • If possible, a front pocket to keep my cables. (You can close this pocket with the same flap mentioned above)
I'm not sure if what I'm requesting is possible for the material being used and if the price would skyrocket due to my request.

Note: You can use either the pocket or the flap for your maker's mark or your logo.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think for the first sleeves we definitely want to keep it simple so we will keep the drawstring for now. I think maybe in the next revisions and when my sister gets better equipment then maybe we can incorporate more complicated weaves and color combos. I did ask her about the pockets similar the to the momkollectiv sleeve and it is a possibility in the future.

Well, my sister is in Arizona right now with her family. In terms of females on Guam, I have no idea what most of them do. Yes, I am from Guam, and you are correct, Guam is a territory of US and its kind of weird how we are strategically placed right in the middle of the Pacific.

Maybe because I'm a local? Haha sugarcoats and heartbeats.

Worry not we will have an ultra-mini sale soon. Like really small. My sister is working on 5 sleeves. 3 have been completed and 2 more left to go.
