Updates on April 17, 2021
Hi from entergogo,
Hope you guys are staying safe and healthy. We know it’s been a longggg day since the latest update. Here’s a brief of what we have working on since the last update on this discussion page. We regrouped the team, designed and launched the first generation Go-popper, a 2-in-1 Aluminum Switch Opener (Interested in? You can find out more here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=110730.0))
More than that, we tried to break through the technical difficulty we identified during the past one-year exploration, studies, and development on Go-fit60, which is the new official name of the GG60 barebones kit. We’ve been receiving many cares and greetings during the past several months, so we think it’s time to go for the next chapter.
We notice that some of you also mentioned in the previous discussion if the purchase of the kit can be more flexible and whether the PCB was available for being purchased separately and inclusively. The answer to these questions is 100% a YES. Meanwhile, two types of PCB are available for the selection--with or without RGB lights.
The purchase on Go-fit60 kit has four options:
Option 1: The original kit includes 1 PCB (RGB enabled), 1 plate, and 1 aluminum case
Also contains 1 set of cherry stabilizers and 1 set screws
(switches and keycaps are not included in the kit)
Option 2: The original kit includes 1 PCB (no RGB), 1 plate, and 1 aluminum case
Also contains 1 set of cherry stabilizers and 1 set screws
(switches and keycaps are not included in the kit)
Option 3: 1 PCB with RGB
Option 4: 1 PCB does not have RGB

One significant adjustment was applied.
The initial ideal software design of PCB is Bluetooth 5.0 enabled plus the QMK setting. However, after almost one year of researching, engineering, adjusting, and prototyping, we found that this combination is currently not thoroughly well-developed and mature enough in the whole market. It is actually being identified as a very challenging technical barrier by most of the professionals we had lots of discussions with, and we are still on our way to solve it with a satisfying answer. However, at the moment, we have to regrettably announce that the PCB contained in the kit will not realize the combination of these two features.
As a result, we decided to keep the Bluetooth 5.0 and replace the QMK with a driver temporarily. Although this combination cannot be applied to the kit, we firmly believe that the demand for a full-case remapping is nonnegligible for the community. That’s why a driver is our alternative decision, which also provides the option of the full-keys customizable keyboard setting.

Besides, during the prototyping and the previous IC collection, we realized that the battery capacity is another killing point for a Bluetooth-enabled mechanical keyboard, especially when the initial sample tested during the prototyping could only hold an 800mAh lithium battery, leading to some feedback we received regarding the duration of it. Therefore, we decided to upgrade the battery capacity to 3500mAh, which sustains a much longer working duration. Accordingly, the high frequency of charging the keyboard will not be a concern with Go-fit60 under a larger battery capacity.
Features of the kit
- Bluetooth 5.0 (support up to 3 devices)
- Hot-swap (Kailh socket)
- Anodized Aluminum 6063 case
- Type-C port
- Charging indicator
Specs
- An Aluminum 6063 plate, 1.5mm, Tray mount style
- Low profile case, 7-degree angle
- Layout: standard 61 keys, ANSI (6.25 u space bar)
- Case and Plate color options: black, e-white, space grey
In the previous IC of Go-fit60, only black and red were provided as the case and plate color options. However, through the comments and feedback that we gathered from the IC, black, space grey, and e-white were the colors being wanted and loved the most. Therefore, we made a slight adjustment on the color selection by replacing the red variant with the space grey and e-white options.
More details on the Pre-soldered PCB
- Bluetooth 5.0 (support up to 3 devices)
- 3500mAh Lithium battery
- Dual-mode, Wire/Wireless, charging when cable plugged
- Hot-swap (Kailh socket)
- USB Type-C breakout
- Black solder mask with gold surface finish
- Low battery/charging indicators
- Switch direction: South-facing (in case of keycaps interference issue)
- ESD protection was added
- Cherry stabilizers (pre factory lubed)

TIMELINE
TBA
The form used to collect and gather IC will no longer receive responses as soon as we update this notice here. The new GB form will soon be posted if everything is on the right track.
PRICING
We put a lot of effort into this project since early 2019 before we initially started designing and producing Go-poppers. Many of you may recall that the first IC was posted one year ago, and after that, we faced some challenges over the past two years, including the unexpected COVID-19. The original idea of introducing Go-fit60 was to offering a barebone kit that is made with better raw materials, representing higher quality and durability, and therefore can be regarded as an alternative replacement of plastic-made case for intense typing workload. Keeping this in mind, we lower the pricing of the kit over the GB with our best effort over conversations and negotiations with the factory and warehouse.
Finally, we all agreed that during the GB, although the cost of the raw material of the e-white Go-popper is relatively higher than the others, it will have the same price as the kit of black and space grey Go-fit60. Also, we decided to waive the cost of the production on the PCB that is enabled with RGB, making it the exact pricing as the regular PCB with no RGB lights support.
The GB will be held for 20 days in total, and three different prices will be assigned to 1 kit and 1 PCB, respectively, for the first 3 days, the 4th to 10th day, and the last 10 days.

Updates on Sep 25
As with the last update, we had a hard time with the QMK+ Bluetooth testing process, and after another period of time we were still unable to work out some of the bugs, and while it may disappoint some people, we have to be honest and say that we have decided that the GG60 does not support QMK, and we will still be using the Bluetooth 5.0 solution. We are already redesigning the PCB to speed up the product launch.
Here is the latest product details:
The GG60 kit came from an original idea to make a powerful and minimalist mechanical keyboard for working on the go.

Important updates on July 31
After some struggle and trade-offs, we decided to go with Bluetooth 4.0 + QMK instead of the originally planned Bluetooth 5.0 + QMK.We feel sorry about this, especially for who has an expectation on Bluetooth 5.0.
Either Bluetooth alone or QMK is very easy to implement, but Bluetooth + QMK is not.
After months of trial and talking to industry solution experts, we found that implementing Bluetooth 5.0+QMK was very difficult and beyond our team's current capabilities.
In fact, Bluetooth 4.0+QMK is a very good solution, at least for now, it is more stable and the user experience is almost the same as Bluetooth 5.0.
In short, we don't want to launch Bluetooth 5.0 + QMK when it's not fully ready.
Next, we need a little more time to finish the rest of the work and then officially launch the GG60 Kit. (GB coming soon...)

Any photos of the PCB? Are the switches facing with the logo upside down or right side up? Can the case accommodate other GH60 compatible PCBs?
-
Hi, thank you for your questions.
1. Sorry, so far no PCB photos, we just finished the PCB design, our partner is making the PCB sample for us, hopefully, we can get the PCB sample July 31, will keep you updated.
2. The switches facing the logo is upside down, which one do you prefer?
3. Honestly, we haven't tested it on other PCBs, but I think the case is hardly compatible with other 60% PCBs unless the PCBs have the same functions with GG60-Pro.

most people prefer the switches with the logo right-side up. Upside down switches make contact with Cherry profile keycaps on a few rows.

I Got it, thank you very much! I will discuss it with my team.

I agree on the keycaps being right side up.
Aside from that, it looks like a nice premium entry board and I'm totally in for this.
This could be my travel board :)

Thanks for your comment! The PCB will be released around Aug 15. Unfortunately it’s not compatible with hhkb layout. The pcb will be hotswap:)

This fills what I consider a big gap in the market: portable, wireless & hotswap mechs. QMK support is the cherry on the top. Good job!
Having said that, 2 (hopefully constructive) criticisms:
- Why settle for Bluetooth 3 which is at least 2-3 generations old? Newer versions have less energy consumption and better/more stable links. Is it a price based decision?
- Less consequential, but at least one more color option would be appreciated. It’s a matter of personal taste, but my vote would go for silver or grey.
Cheers

Thank you for your comments! Constructive for sure!
We were told Bluetooth 3.0 is more stable, new version was reported lost connection sometimes, but we will test it on our own, will updated here.
Okay, will consider add one more color option if more people like silver or grey. We will discuss this with our cooperated factory.
Many thanks!
-
Really looking forward to this keyboard. Right now the only 60% hotswap bluetooth board I know of is the GK61S, and it’s not that great. Having something with QMK would be a dream.
Any idea when the GB will begin?

Thank you for your comments. Very good question!
Basically, we want to make the GG60-Pro a premium custom travel keyboard, of course, we can make it very expensive with complicated design and all trended functions. But we want to make it affordable to all mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. Here are examples of how we control the cost and make it affordable.
We make it a low profile case which is cheaper than a high profile case.
It has no back-lighting(RGB), as we thought the long battery charging circle is more important to a travel keyboard.
Another reason is we hope the GG60-Pro idea can come true, apparently, the low price is more competitive.

Hey! Got new updates, please check the post when you free:)
Looking good! Excited for September 15 !
A few questions tho:
- How much space is there between the bottom case and the PCB? I want to put some sort of dampening foam in between to eliminate some of the reverb.
- Do you have a list of the Gateron and Cherry Switches you’ll be offering?
- Do you have actual pics of the red case and plate? Interested in my options.

1. I'm going to check it and let you know next week.
2. Yes, will offering
Cherry MX brown, red and blue switches.
Kailh box brown and blue switches
Gateron blue, yellow and brown switches,
3. So far don't have actual pics of the case, but already request them to make samples, will update later.
-
Wow, the pcb looks promising, hopefully everything comes into fruition. Just wondering, judging form the pics will the pcb be using mill max hotswap sockets or kailh sockets or will just end up a solder pcb? really appreciate what you're doing here, a barebone bluetooth kit for $100USD is almost unbelievable

Hi Mikko, space is 3.5mm between the bottom case and the PCB. Anything else?

Wow, the pcb looks promising, hopefully everything comes into fruition. Just wondering, judging form the pics will the pcb be using mill max hotswap sockets or kailh sockets or will just end up a solder pcb? really appreciate what you're doing here, a barebone bluetooth kit for $100USD is almost unbelievable
Hi, thank you for your comments:)
We use Kailh sockets.

Thanks! None that I can think of. Just waiting for September 15!

Hi Mikko, new PCB is on testing, keep you updated.

Cheers

Hi there, we have updated the Bluetooth version to 5.0.
Thank you for your advice. GB time is still TBD, will keep you updated.

Hi Mikko, new updates of the product, actual pics have been uploaded. Please check.

:D nice work!
I have seen photos of the prototype. The board is neat :thumb: From the render photos, I saw 3 led indicators in the top right corner of the case. However, those leds disappeared in the prototype. :o
With $99, I may be too greed to the feature of remembering multi devices and switch among them smoothly. ::)
If you can provide a HHKB layout and multi-devices, I will 100% in even when the price increased to $150 ;D

Hey, thanks for your comments:)
Yes, there are still have 3 led indicators in the top right corner, you can see the PCB board, there got 3 marks, as some reasons, this plate didn't have the led holes, will light it up later.
The Bluetooth will support up to 3 devices, and you can switch among them freely.
Regarding HHKB layout, we definiately will make one if we hear enough voice. As you know, there are MOQs if we want to start a new layout. Otherwise the cost will be very very high.

Any updates with this?
We are still working on the PCB, we have tested two versions, and fixed some bugs, we will test the 3rd version PCB next week, if everything works perfect, then the GB will be set.
As well, based on the IC form responses, we have decided the case/plate color options, keyboard layout and MOQ for the first round GB

Hey Mikko, only black and red for the 1st round GB, we do want to offer more color options for all friends, but from the view of a project, the most important thing is to make it rolling smoothly, not get things too complicated, so that’s our decision.

Does this PCB support kailh choc switches?
Hi friend, YES, the PCB support Kailh choc switch, but have to use a 0.8mm thick plate, so far we only have 1.5mm thick plate (aluminum & brass)

Hey, yes, it's been quite a while. Actually, we met problems on the PCB, one of our partners can't fix it as our request, then we have to source a new partner, luckily we have found one, and they are already on the work with the PCB, hopefully we can release it within weeks. I will keep you updated!

A bluetooth QMK 60% seems useful, I would consider myself interested. Would it be possible to get a special plate layout covering the bottom left and right cutouts? Would it also be possible to get case and plate in different colors? (I'd take silver for the case and black for the plate)
Edit: Remembered that I wanted to mention that I would prefer a split right shift. You could put something useful like Delete there. (Some renders have Delete in the bottom row, I think that's a really bad spot for a "destructive" function)

Hey, thank you for your interest!
1. Sorry, the plate design is already done, I don't think we can change the plate layout covering the bottom left and right cutouts.
2. Yes, we can add more colors for the case and plate, it all depends on how many interests for the new colors.
3. For GG60, it's a standard right shift key, we will consider making a split right shift for the next project.

Can’t open the new IC link for some reason.
Hi Mikko,
I just checked it, it still works for me, I'm not sure the exact reason.
But you don't need to fill out again, as it's the same form as before, never changed.
Thank you!

Hey, good question, but I'm not sure the exact BT modules as I'm not total techno, I will ask my partners and then get back to you.

Yes, we are testing Bluetooth 5.0, we are gonna use it.

No, we will not launch the ISO layout in the initial GB.
We already know some people want ISO layout, but not as many as our expectations.
We're planning to launch the ISO layout in the second GB.

yes. its the switch housing that causes the issue on thick cherry keycaps, not the actual led (though a big one of those can also cause issues)
-
Yeah, what he said, though there can still be issues with caps that are relatively thin, even 1,3mm caps can still have issues. I think the reason here for going with north facing is the large modules in the top edge of the pcb, but honestly a better layout or flipping just a few switches rather than ALL of them would've been a much better solution.
Might also be just because its meant as a lower end board and people might want to use it with shine through caps (?) but I dont think anybody would complain.

I absolutely agree flipping a couple of switches is always a good compromise because usually it's just too row ones which have the least interference. I do think your theory about shine through is likely a major driving force in keeping it north.

In my opinion, if you have test the issue mentioned in above comments and found no problem, you don't have to care about that issue. :-\

Actually, we do have very small issues on the caps, we think it's acceptable, but the thing is we can't guarantee everyone has the same caps as us, so probably there are big issues on some thick keycaps.

South facing is always preferable because there are many people who use cherry profile keycaps. Just look at tall the south facing lcbs on the market.

You should definitely switch to south-facing switches if you still have the option and the board doesn't use LEDs anyway.
Did you get a chance to ask your partners which Bluetooth module is being used?

Yeah, we'll make a decision if switch to south-facing on this weekend. Yes, but I haven't got an exact answer, I will keep track of this question.

+1 for south-facing, if the issues caused by north-facing is apparent. I'm not a fan of LEDs anyway, this is gonna be part of my everyday carry.

would this pcb fit a standard 60%? edit: just saw the cutouts in the bottom case. do you have any pictures of the modules?

GG60 case can be count a standard 60% one, but the charging port is at the left top, you can check the case photos in the post, I'm not sure if the PCB can fit your case.

I'm sorry if I've already asked any of these questions on the Discord server, but I'll post them here so that anyone can read them.
These questions are for the 2nd round group buy because I have to wait for ISO support:
1) Will there be a grey case?
2) Will there be the possibility for a high profile case?
3) Can the PCB become compatible with standard 60% cases like most PCBs do?
4) Have you decided if you're using Bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0? What are the benefits of 5.0?
EDIT:
5) Will we be able to request the keyboard with Cherry MX Silent Red switches?
Thanks!

Yeah, I'm very glad to meet you here again. Here is the answer.
1) Will there be a grey case? Very probably
2) Will there be the possibility for a high profile case? I don't think so:(
3) Can the PCB become compatible with standard 60% cases like most PCBs do? No one knows, maybe will compatible with GH60
4) Have you decided if you're using Bluetooth 4.0 or 5.0? What are the benefits of 5.0? I think it's 5.0, faster and greater range.
EDIT:
5) Will we be able to request the keyboard with Cherry MX Silent Red switches? Yeah, for sure

I mentioned this on the form, but when you get to the second round group buy, please consider the following on top of ISO support if you don't already have them:
1) Support for a split backspace (relatively common on 60% boards)
2) Support for a split right-shift key with the 1U on the left. GH60, DZ60, and various other boards support this.
3) Support for a "minila" style split space key. On the original minila this is split in three with sizes 1.25, 3, 1.25. Support for this is very rare; the only PCB I'm aware of that has it is the GH60 (the DZ60 doesn't :()
This would be enough to offer full support for JIS layouts with keys either side of the space bar for switching between English and Japanese, which would be just awesome in a bluetooth keyboard -- I am not aware of another bluetooth PCB that offers this. Those keys can also be useful as function keys even if you don't use JIS; see the ANSI Filco Minila for an example of them in use.
I know this may be out of scope for what you are considering but I just wanted to point it out as if you were going to add these things doing it at the same time as ISO would make a lot of sense. We JIS users are starved of usable PCBs :(

Very good point, we didn't get any requirements from Japan before, we will definitely consider this.

Thanks! Even if you don’t offer it as an option for your fully-built keyboards, just having support for it in the PCB would be really helpful!

And definitely BLE5 !

Hey, thank you for reaching.
We are appreciate your advice, but the PCB is almost done, so far it's not support the layout as you mentioned.
We will consider to upgrade the PCB in future, but all depends on if the community like it or not.
