Buy a custom MX board, build an artisan collection I'm settled with, and try BKE domes.

I could easily say I'd be done buying by that point but I don't think that's true.

2. Complete all keyboard projects/builds.
3. No keyboard or key set group buys.
4. Reduce number of keyboards.

Now that I am completely smitten with BKE Redux domes for Topre, all other tactile MX-stemmed switches seem flimsy and lackluster to me. And so:

- Get a black Plum75 (LOVE its layout and Bluetooth feature).
- Swapped in BKE Redux domes.
- Get GMK Burgundy R2 for the Plum75.
- Sell my current 67g Zealios FC660M.
- Use the Plum75 as my travel board.
- MAYBE get a Norbaforce case for my Realforce. Or commission someone to make one for me (I know a guy 🙂 ).

    For 2018:
    • Finally receive the Model F77.
    • Finally receive the WhiteFox.
    • Build a couple of Banana Split 60s with my Zo64 layout.
    • Build a keyboard (possibly TKL) with Kailh BOX Navy switches.
    • Build a new PC to run Ubuntu MATE.  (My first complete computer build, in fact.)

And finally…   Attempt to build this:
http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/b367774ecc015735a691aa8ad17d5900 (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/b367774ecc015735a691aa8ad17d5900)

The YAS62 PCB and KBDFans case (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87511.0) can get you very close to that layout.[/list]

Plans for 2018:

1. Receive long waited keyset
2. Order the HHKB and begin to mod.
3. Make a custom wrist rest for it with some spare materials
4. Make a keyboard storage solution, will take some time to design and finalise as I have little space but I have 6 weeks of school off!
5. Op-shop hunting
6. Stop spending money
7. Focus on school

1. Finish up my endgame Topre board: 10th anniversary silent 87u w/ hangul legends and light BKE domes
2. Finish up my foray into Alps: Build up a SKCL Green AEK64, get rid of leftover alps switches/caps/cases/boards
3. Finally receive and build up my Dolphin and 2 Miras
4. Slim down keyboard collection. I'll have about 15 keyboards when everything comes in. If I could cut it in half and have 7 or 8, that'd be the sweet spot for me.
5. Get back into making caps. I kinda just gave up cause I got busy with school, hopefully I'll be able to have more time for it

Plans for 2018:

- Build both Dolphin V2 boards.
      * All Black dolphin w/ GMK Fishbed
      * Grey top/silver bottom w/ GMK 9009     R2

- Order TX 1800 (Black)
      * w/ GMK Burgundy, Terminal or Honeywell.

- Order ION board and ION Pad (White, Hopefully)
 * Saving this for GMK Godspeed if hat ever happens.

- Stop buying new boards!

- Receive GMK 9009 R2

- GMK Terminal R2

- GMK Fishbed

-GMK Camping

- GMK Burgandy R2

- GMK Godspeed (god I hope this happens...)

- Stop buying key sets! (but if GMK hyperfuse and/or Honeywell get run again, I’m making an exception)

-Either decide on One Final Keyset for my planck or get enough plancks for the keysets I currently have or will be getting. It's between XDA Canvas, GMK Laser, and SA Oblivion. They're all such beautiful sets. I'm probably just going to build more plancks. The solution to every problem is always more plancks.

-Settle on an office keyboard. Planck, Let's Split, Ultimate Hacking Keyboard, Two Plancks, or a 65%. I think the answer is obviously options 1 and 4. Three plancks baby.

My current goal for 2018 would be to "complete" my RF 88UB.

Norbaforce tactical black case, BKE Heavy domes, lubed and Hypersphere'd.

Oh, and if someone happens to make some Topre to MX sliders that are on par with the stock sliders, I'd also be all over that.  :p

Don't temp me dammit. After Yuri, Laser, an SSK, and AEK64 my wallet can't handle any more right now. Hence, plans for 2018..... LATE 2018. I'll probably wait out for Keycult No. 2 TKL.

2) Mod the left control of the 87u's to make them silent.

2. Finally start on my G81-to-G80/handwire mod project
3. Build one or two new keyboards otherwise
4. Host more Finland/Helsinki MKB meetups (one held this year and next one planned already!)
5. Try not to spend too much on keyboard stuff, went a little overboard a few times in 2017.

Update from mid-november. man, so much things happened in this short time that it is worth enough to update..  :blank:

Quote
Still got my ve.a. this will be in my possesion for a long time.
I sold my ve.a. using TGR Jane CE + TGR 910 poly, and waiting for 910 alu.

keycaps;
Quote
Got RA. Oblivion and Nautilus is still on the way.. hyperfuse still nowhere to be found
. no changes.  but I've decided to sell all of them once they arrived and keeping RA only.

Quote
didn't continue my filco phantom. rt80 is out for a while for some body repair. em7 still on the way (great GB so far /s  :blank: )
no changes. still on the waiting game.

Quote
hah. as i got my 910 already there's no need for another 60-65%. but i might join SKBXX for the giggles tho. that case is cool.
SKBXX too expensive for me. got a second 910 coming as well.

Quote
Switches;
no more silent shawarma. tealios already goes into 910 and it feels amazing. gatistotle already completed but i don't have any place to put in on  :)) . vintage and zeal stem also in same condition as gatistole.
sold gatistotle. and i have too much spring in stock.. 68g taobao, 67g taobao, 62g, stock gateron blue spring, sprit 65s, sprit 68s, kin aconical spring... the list goes on and on. also i think i have too much lube incoming.. 103, 105, 205, ro59..

Quote
other projects;
should start learning solidworks for my lilly..
in progress. 2018 will be so exciting.

Quote
pretty much i'm gonna be so finished for keyboards at 2017. maybe not gonna stop at keycaps, but pretty much for the keyboard. still on the game. retiring is a myth.
in the verge of retiring, but i'd probably buy things again, so yeah :))

Also, added for 2018:

- Sanctuary PBT keycaps GB, if approved by TS at IC thread.

I have several boards in-progress that I need to complete:

-DFK101 with Salmon Alps
-XD64-based board for my laptop with 55g Greelios (Stealio/Gateron Tactile Clear stem in Greetech housing)
-GH60 Satan with 35g Gatistotles and GMK 3Run
-GNAP! #1 with modded Gateron Yellows (Cherry housing, aristotle spring)
-GNAP! #2 with Kailh Speed Pink
-HHKB JP-layout Uchu70 with Kailh Box Pale Blue
-Heavily modded Chicony fullsize with SMK White and PETG case

So TL;DR a whole bunch of stuff I started this year and will have to finish next year.

It's amazing how much the list has grown since last year. I guess that's what a year of being into keyboards does to you :^)

Hope to get a TGR910, already got switches and everything for it ready.
buy more brocaps and key sets.
Finally get my hands on the toxic set, its been such a damn long wait

This was my post from the 2017 thread.
I got in on the 910CE buy, I got into a couple Brocap raffles and Toxic is just Toxic.

For 2018?
Finally get my hands on Mira and 910CE and build them
Spend less money going forward ( I got way too many keysets now)
More keyboard photography

I feel these goals are all super easy compared to last year.

There's some options to help you get started. As always, watch for other SA groupbuys that happen in various places, like zfrontier.

Complete my Unsaver
Make my SSK in to an FSSK
Order the diodes and crap so I can use my Orion v2 with blue alps
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head  :)

Waiting on BKE Extra Light to come out (apparently even Light is still too heavy, too tactile, and fatiguing from what I read).

If the above doesn't works out.  Then wait for Realforce R2 45g Silent.

1. Build a Modern M011A (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=92445.0) with this split-spacebar-plus-arrow-keys layout (https://i.imgur.com/XSNLbA4.png). Probably using either Zealio R9 or that new Aliaz switch if reviews turn out to be positive. If not the M0110A, than a Tina-C case.

2. Finally type on an Alps board. Short of buying a Matias, Alps switches are almost non-existent where I live.

3. Get one of those new Leopold boards with Dolch/Skydolch double-shot PBT keycaps (https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/7m77y4/sky_dolch_doubleshot_pbt_from_leopold/). I plan to just buy it solely for the keycaps first (still cheaper than a GMK set) than worry about what to do with the boards later.

4. Keep wondering if I should get an HHKB JP. That ****ing 2U spacebar, ugh.

5. Shooting for the sky: Hi-Pro keycaps for my beloved Realforce 87U.

Get around to (re-)building my 75% Chinese custom.

Get started on my own custom keyboard (Magicforce 68 layout with fkeys, all aluminum case, RGB lighting...)
Odd layout? It's just a compressed TKL (minus 2 keys), so you can use standard key caps but still smaller in width than a TKL. We just got a CNC mill at my company, so this is now doable.

1. Finish building my VE.A; currently it's waiting for some MOD-H's to ship, but I already have my hotlites, keycaps, stickers, rubber dampeners, stabilizers (shipped), MX locks (shipped) and cable (thinking of replacing).

2. Start working on an HHKB portable endgame. This is going to be more of a longer term thing, but with RAMA working on a case, I'm planning on getting an HHKB, a hasu controller, 55g domes, MX compatible stems. I don't even know what caps I would want on it. I'm a little burnt out on caring for keycap sets.

3. Start designing my own entirely custom keyboard. I have so many grand ideas for how I want my first two custom boards to work but I haven't followed up on them at all in 2016. I think by this time next year I would want to have already designed at least the weight distribution of all the switches.

4. Keep searching for a Model M from my birthdate (1991).

Going off last year's list;

1. Ended up finishing that VE.A. I even ended up rebuilding it a couple of times. It was nice. Ended up selling it because I didn't love it.
2. Decided against a portable keyboard. I'll just buy a keyboard carrying case this year. But I did buy a RF, and it's my single keyboard right now that I love.
3. Nope, not started, not done. OH well.
4. Searched and searched, no luck yet. Found keyboards literally the day before and both days after I was born, but not the day of. Here's to trying for another year.

My plans for this year:
1. Receive Norbaforce
2. Brass-ify Norbaforce (backplate + switchplate)
3. If it's really nice, buy a VE.A 2.

Build a board with my vintage clears. I want to try ergo (thoughts on 65g?) for the first time as I got into building things around the time zealios dropped and have been very content with my 65g zeals (as far as mx goes) for almost two years now :P I also have everything but the switches for a full size ALPS build I want to do. I really want to try linear ALPS this go around and am looking for some SKCLs but may linear mod my pine cream damped in lieu of that to also have the dampening effect since ALPS are pretty loud. Hoping to use that in my office

I have a Let's Split that I need to finish (zealiostotles in it, I broke both of the damn pro micro usb's off with a bad usb cable ), drop some alps in the Contra once that arrives, and find a TKL that has an aluminum body, brass weight, and acrylic middle for all of the Laser stuff I have coming.
Oh man, I have an M6-A coming too. RIP my wallet.

build a Katana60 or two, now that PCBs are available from CandyKeys

I fully support this goal ;)

* kbdfans announced a couple of compelling products at the end of 2017; I ordered the Aliaz silent tactile switches to test. They use the same approach as the silent cherry reds (double shot sliders) which I was impressed with. If they feel nearly as good as Cherry silent reds, I'll get enough for a Katana60 build.
* I'd like to build an ALPS Katana60 with AEKii caps too.
* Consolidate my sprawling collection and sell off the stuff I don't need.

Aside from that, I'd like to search for an in-production, high quality trackpoint module that I can begin testing with.

Clacky New Year folks a

Build my LZ-St, TGR 910 and LSv3, probably in that order. Try to get hold of a Jane and Tris.

Try my hand at designing a keyset.

I'm also thinking of ditching Colemak and trying to learn to touch type Qwerty properly. I hate my frantic hunt n pecking on the work membranes. Also there's bugger all colemak GMK kits about.

Maybe go to a UK meet up. Maybe.

Maybe even build a Phantom so I stop feeling guilty every time I see the PCB in my box of stuff.

Build my TGR910

Build my LZ-CLS

Rebuild my KMAC, hopefully with a partial PC plate.

Clean my m0116 and get it working when my pro micro controller arrives.

Get hold of a Keycult No. 1.

And maybe sell some stuff.

1) See if GMK Purple Dragon can get enough support to make it to group buy stage.
2) Maybe get a second HHKB (again). Just keep going back to these boards, but miss customization. 3) Get a 3rd and final HHKB for customization and slap some SA keycaps on it.

This upcoming year, hmm... good question. I just recently knocked a big one off my list with my RSII+ Ver.C build (1st board I built with Zealios ) Although there are plenty of other things I would like to do as far this hobby goes. I would really like to do a handwired build soon, finally give a Topre or EC board a shot, & do a custom 1800 build this year if my finances will allow for those last two  :-\. Other than that the handwired build & replacing the Pro Micro that broke on my Let's Split are the 2 projects I have on my plate right now & will be doing for sure.

The Kaihl thick click Navies do look very interesting. I was so tempted to order a batch from NovelKeys when they last had them but I couldn't justify it as I just finished a Red Scarf II+ Ver.C build. I probably should've put an Alps build on my post too, that is something I would really like to try also ever since I got a chance to try out an Alps board. Hope this year does go well for all us! :thumb:

I am super new to this mechanical keyboard thing. My trigger was a friend and co-worker that was using a Cooler Master Rapid-i with Cherry MX Brown switches. He was telling me how much he loved it and how one of his new year's resolution was to learn to properly touch type using the home row, etc.

So I started researching and found /r/MechanicalKeyboard and I fell in love. Particular to those colorful beautiful DSA keysets with awesome fonts. The main issue is that I live in Brazil and importing things here is a pain in the ass. It takes forever and you always end up paying 2-2.5x the product price.

However, I was decided to get my hands on a mech keyboard so I ordered a CM Rapid-i that had some burnt LEDs to get a feeling of the Brown switches myself. I bought this one locally from our own incarnation of an eBay like website called Mercado Livre.

This happened around new year's so the shipping would take almost a week to get here. And I reeeeally wanted to try a mechanical keyboard so I ended up going to a local computer store and got one of the keyboards that are easy to find: I got the Razer Chroma Tournament v2 with Blue switches.

And of course, I loved it! The blue switches are awesome... But in this interim, my CM Rapid-i with brown switches arrived and I was really pleased with the browns as well, but to be honest the burnt LEDs was a downer for me.

And therefore, here are my 2018 keyboard plans:

- Get my first programmable keyboard - I bought the tada68 off from KBDfans on AliExpress
- Get my first custom keyset - I got this [1], from AliExpress as well
- Get the ErgoDox-EZ - I do programming for a living and after watching this guy use the ErgoDox on this YouTube video [2] I was hooked

So with all that I currently became addicted to checking tracking codes every hour or so, even though they obviously don't change at all -- many haven't even been picked up by the carrier  :)

Welcome to the fold man! I can completely relate to your post. I found here at GH & r/MKB shortly after getting my 1st mech for gaming & feel in love with the hobby really quick too! Those are some nice boards you got to start off with but wait till you get your TADA68! I bet that becomes your daily driver. Nothing against the CM Rapid i & Razer Chroma V2 but the MKB world has much better to offer IME & IMO the TADA68 is a nice step up from both of them especially if you got an aluminum case with yours. Anyways, just wanted to say welcome & be sure to let us know how you like the TADA68 once you get it!

Updated after the awesome news about SA Retro round 2.

1. Get dark blue Norbauer aluminum case for my last NovaTouch. Awaiting powder coating.
2. Design a killer Mercury Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. In progress.
3. Wait for the following keycap sets to be made/delivered:
    A. Round 6 phase 2 (Honeywell colors) - Being packed and shipped by 7bit as we speak.
    B. /dev/tty - Currently in production.
    C. SA Carbon
    D. SA Oblivion
    E. DSA PuLSE
    F. SA Retro
4. Paint the top case frame of my "Honeywell" Topre RealForce RGB board white.
5. Paint one Plum numpad dark blue and another one dark gray (these are to be paired with the NovaTouches).
6. Super secret keyboard project.

Some of these goals are rollover goals from 2017.

Just ordered my first ever mechanical keyboard (KUL ES-87 with Blue switches, $60 on Amazon), so I guess my plan for 2018 is to not get addicted and not spend too much money! Pumped to retire my Apple Magic Keyboard though...

I do plan to invest at least another $50 in better keycaps, but by then I'll want to try out different switches, different layouts, ortholinear...and by then I'll have spent money I don't have :/

i recommend vintage browns

I think I'm leaning towards Vintage Blacks because they're so good on full poly and some extra flex for a crisp softness might be nice... but am building a CF-LX with Clears to see if Vintage Clears might be an option. But... I really like my SKCL's very minor tactility, and I imagine Vintage Browns might be similar...

SKCL is the real truth I think.

Best thing I did to curb the temptation is by limiting myself to 2 boards only: 1 MX at home, 1 Topre at work.
That said, last years's rise of Topre customization did not help my bank account, what with people selling just Topre keycaps more often, BKE Redux domes, and most recently, the Norbaforce.

* Stop changing my layout. I guess this is necessary to start using it at work, I can't be seen flashing my keyboard instead of working. I'm just wishing very hard that the GH60 Satan boards had a split spacebar right now, I need more FNs for layers. I can probably live with what I've got for a while.
* Force everyone to admire my new Carbon and Royal Navy keycaps, whenever they finally arrive.
* Once it has a set of caps, put my second Satan into the low silver Al case I just ordered for it, start using it at work.
* Start dreaming about a matched pair of 40% boards instead, and selling what I've got on ebay to fund them. Then start fiddling with layouts all over again, except probably with QMK instead of TMK this time.
* Realise I need a third board for my shed, cry over the cost, then just reuse the cheap blank keycaps I've got now to justify saving money that I can spend on whatever BLE 40% with split space PCBs appear this year.
* Maybe try hand-wiring a Feather 32u4 into a wooden case that I've got lying about. Either that or sell it.
* Try to find some single custom keys that I don't hate, just to further confuse people at work.

1. Build my BananaSplit60 V2.
2. Build a Contra 40% Ortho to give ortho a try.
3. Figure out what layout I want to use to give handwiring a shot. Will probably be a split, but not sure if it will be staggered or ortho.

I just ordered a Teensy for making a Soarer's converter for an XT keyboard I just acquired.
I'm going to get that keyboard working and after that I have no plans.

So basically the plan is to just enjoy all of my keyboards by using them.

Figure out what switches to use in my partial plate, then retire until a TGR 910 polycarbonate edition buy happens.

i recommend vintage browns

Done, done, done. The year is going well so far.

Next up: continue spreading the gospel of the holy trinity of plate materials: carbon fiber, polycarbonate, and PCB.

Some carry over from 2017.

-Receive and build The Moon TKL with Box Navies (Possibly my end game).
-Hope that Model F77 is delivered this year. (Possibly runner up end game).
-Build a Model M from spare Unicomp inner assembly I have and use Ellipse's new keycaps on it.
-Receive GMK Dark Solarized. Probably stick it on M65-A or something.
-Receive SA Carbon. Probably stick it on The Moon.
-Bolt mod my SSK so that it doesn't feel quite as much like poop.
-Maybe order the Contra 40% ortho. It's so cheap that I think I HAVE to get one. --Welp, I guess I missed the GB for that one. Never mind.
-Maybe get in on Donutcat's cheapo 96 key GB.
-Get TEX TKL case for V80 -- DONE
-Figure out what to do about the MX Silent Black spring fiasco. In the meantime, I chose to have Novelkeys hold the switches until VicareyG hears back from the distributor.
-Stop buying keyboard stuff so that I can finally spend money on other hobbies, or, you know, save it.

5. Paint one Plum numpad dark blue and another one dark gray (these are to be paired with the NovaTouches). - DONE
6. Super secret keyboard project.

Some of these goals are rollover goals from 2017.

I’m very new here, so I have pretty modest goals.
1. Receive R9 zilents ( I ordered pretty late into the GB )
2. Learn how to properly lube them and maybe install SIP sockets for LEDs
3. Decide on which 75% or 80% to put them in!
4. Find a great keycap set... I’d love something that looks like the white alphas version of GMK Oblivion ( love the coloured text on the modifier keys ) but in PBT
5. Finally build my first keeb
6. Survive my wife’s wrath

Plan #1 - Don't buy anymore stuff!

Now that plan #1 has failed...

1) Get my GMK Muted set on my Tina-A. Probably resolder my caps lock key to be a stepped caps lock.
2) Get my WhiteFox with Hako Trues. Not set to ship until late March though.
3) Maybe another HHKB with a few color accents?
4) If not another HHKB, then probably the Tokyo 60 on Massdrop now if it runs again this year. As badly as I want it, I want to see how the integrated plate turns out.
5) Get GMK Purple Dragon (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=88662.0) off the ground one day. If I can get any interest for it.

2) Deck out one of my 16x8 Tipros with incoming carbon SA caps. Might want to do some minor mods to the switches/plate as well.
3) build a homage to atheicearcade's mindblowing split adjustable topre board concept (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=84985.0), but for mx type switches and unsculped SA keycaps. First prototype will be alu, final version will be brass.

Build my LZ-St, TGR 910 and LSv3, probably in that order. Try to get hold of a Jane and Tris.  -  Built two St's, the 910 is in the post right now, along with a Tris. I got a beautiful Jane that I love, and I sold the LSv3 kit.  Now have several more boards I'm waiting on, and so it goes.

Try my hand at designing a keyset.  -  In progress. Going well I think.

I'm also thinking of ditching Colemak and trying to learn to touch type Qwerty properly. I hate my frantic hunt n pecking on the work membranes. Also there's bugger all colemak GMK kits about.  -  Sticking to Colemak now. Improving slowly, much slower than I'd hoped, but typing a lot more now I have much nicer boards to type on.

Maybe go to a UK meet up. Maybe.  -  Went. Really enjoyed it. Won prizes. Will go again.

Maybe even build a Phantom so I stop feeling guilty every time I see the PCB in my box of stuff.  -  Sold the PCB. Solved the problem.

I've got a full spread of plans out for this year finally:

KBD75 at home is gonna become my work board once the M60A ships. Just modded the pandas i had in it to be lubed Zandas, now i'm waiting on the kbdfans epbt 9009 to ship out for it. Debating re painting the dark grey case to a nice beige in the downtime.

M60A will go up with either box blacks or box yellows for starters. Went with black and gold for my order and i'm waiting on Yolch later this year to finish that dream.

Also keeping my eye out for more pastel artisans for my baby miami 60%

That's what they say. I'm more just curious to see if they really live up to the hype.

I'm holding out for that. I really hope they do a drop for halos. I heard Yanbo say it could be in the future on a TopClack video. Been trying to tap him on the shoulder via Massdrop to see if it can please be a thing.

I got two sample paks, the ten switch ones, of the Clears and the Trues. Boy, am I glad I only got the sample paks: I do NOT like them. There's just something uninviting to the process of bottoming out on them, I can't quite explain it, but it goes against the feeling of dexterity and power I get from typing on, say, Box Jades or Silent Reds.

2018 was the first year I got into the custom side of keyboards, even though I've had mechanicals for almost 10 years. The 2018 bucket list is getting whittled down:

- Try SA profile
- Try 60/65% size
- Get an early Model M in restored/good condition

- Get a Model F (pending GB)
- Try all available MX, BOX, and Zealio switches on complete boards (except the really light ones)
- Build custom switches (ergo clear/Hako Royals/72g Tealio/55g Box black)
- Build custom board
- Increase wpm by at least 10

- Sell off boards I won't likely use again (such a hassle, I'm almost to the point where I might just throw out some of them to clear up space lol)

-Receive and build The Moon TKL with Box Navies (Possibly my end game). --Built with Box Navies (basically end game). Second PCB built with MX Silent Blacks with 100g springs.
-Hope that Model F77 is delivered this year. (Possibly runner up end game).
-Build a Model M from spare Unicomp inner assembly I have and use Ellipse's new keycaps on it.
-Receive GMK Dark Solarized. Probably stick it on M65-A or something. --Received, currently on M65-A.
-Receive SA Carbon. Probably stick it on The Moon. --Received, currently on Moon with Silent Blacks
-Bolt mod my SSK so that it doesn't feel quite as much like poop.
-Maybe order the Contra 40% ortho. It's so cheap that I think I HAVE to get one. --Wait for R2, I guess.
-Maybe get in on Donutcat's cheapo 96 key GB. --Decided to forgo this.
-Get TEX TKL case for V80 -- DONE
-Figure out what to do about the MX Silent Black spring fiasco. In the meantime, I chose to have Novelkeys hold the switches until VicareyG hears back from the distributor. --Received, lubed, spring swapped with 100g springs, and filmed.
-Stop buying keyboard stuff so that I can finally spend money on other hobbies, or, you know, save it.
-Receive MX/Alps stab inserts so that I can fix my V80 stabilizers.
-Receive and build TheKey.Company TKC 1800, maybe with Box Royals. --Done. My new work keyboard.
-Desolder those Mx Silent Blacks and put 85g springs in them or something. 100g springs were way too heavy.
-Desolder the MX Blacks from the old 1800 PCBs I ordered. Probably lube them. I need to find something to put them in, maybe some cheap 60%.

I am in mech keyboards quite shortly - cca since spring of 2018. So I obtained and tested IBM M/Unicomp, Matias Tactile Pro (clicky), and KBParadise TKL with pretty interesting tai-hao APC soft click switches. After this initial experience, I want to continue more "systematically" and I am still (and will be for some time, surely) just in switch testing (not custom board making, keycaps etc.). So my plans ahead are:

- obtain switch tester with 63 switch types (on the way)
- obtained hot-swappable keyboard (zhuque)
- later choose switches based on switch tester experience and try them in zhuque keyboard
- clean some old keyboards I bought/acquired (white alps, MX blue, black alps + other, usually rare switches which I need to identify yet)
- rebuild one Dell AT101 from black alps to "modified" black alps - first linear, than clicky version, which is irreversible (I have two Dell AT101 so I will retain one with black ALPS, the other with modified ones)

Quoting for emphasis.

2018 plans:

1 - Get into ALPS - DONE
2 - Spend far too much on tooling ALPS - DONE
3 - SMK65 w/ holtites and AEKII - half done
4 - Tv45 w/ holtites and ALPS Intl grab-bag - half done
5 - Regret getting into ALPS - half done

Seriously though, ALPS support wtf? Pine Whites and Creams/Orange are seriously good yet support is pretty well nonexistent except retro / grab-bag happenings...

Other 2018 plans:
- Possibly mount the Laser set
- Possibly mount the Legacy DSA set (Pulse, in DSA)
- Possibly mount tty/dev on SMK65 if the adapters come to fruition
- Possibly sell off everything MX except Aristotle because of disappointment

Pretty much accomplished mine already!

Harvested Blue alps from my leading edge 2014, used them for a LFKeyboards TKL with DSA Granite.

Used VA68m aluminum case with a hotswap pcb to have fun testing out different switches with.

Now to find the right keyboard for my windows 98 set up - got matching dell xps T500 and it's p990 CRT monitor. Thinking an early model AT-101 with salmon alps, that or a model M or old cherry board.

With the exception of receiving/installing the converter for the Pingmaster I bought...I have largely finished my 2018 plans.

1. Replace all boards at my work to IBM buckling springs (co-workers have been ok with this). Have a 2017 Unicomp Ultra Classic and a 1991
Dell Old Logo Model M made by Lexmark as the boards (one to match my desk color and the other to match my 2nd computer make...I have 2
    computers at my desk).
We've reached endgame for work (Model F not enough keys and i have a lot of specific data entry/Mainframe usage that uses all F1-F12
    keys...native keys, no shortcuts/workarounds accepted)

2. Replace my laptop and provide an tenkeyless mechanical board to hook into its replacement since it would mostly be stationary.
(Aukey KM-G7 with RGB PBT keycaps, makes the Outemu Blues sound much better).

3. Reach home endgame with a Model F XT with a Soarer's Converter (Beamspring won't fit on my desk/not enough keys even if i had the cash
plus I use Function keys too much...no need for F11-F12 but need F1-F10)
4. Have a spare Model M, MX based board (got a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate from 2012 for $1 as a garage sale with MX Blues, in process of
putting PBT keycaps on it) and a novelty type board (for me) to use whenever (IBM Pingmaster received, waiting for converter).

You can probably tell I'm a buckling spring fan or at least one with a affinity towards clicky switches!

Cherry MX switches are actually quite nice for gaming. I played MOBAs on MX blues for years, it was quite awesome.
Not so easy with the Model M anymore.

edit:
My plans involve finding an affordable, probably USB-converted F122 (because the 122 one is the only Model F layout that doesn't suck :blank:) for work. The difference between a rubberdome and my M122 at home has become too obvious in only two days and reading too much geekhack has finally broken my will to not go too deep, money-wise. Or I'll just get a second Unicomp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes I use my mech for gaming. I don't want to switch just because I am playing a game.
I will say that I prefer a clicky switch to these Zealios's for gaming.

I game on my mechanical boards, I don't even own any non-mechanical keyboards these days.

I am going to finally build these phantoms and ergodox i have laying around, apparently after you build 4 of each you lose the need to build more. they have no resale value at all they are completely worthless.
I am going use a little bit of keyboard allowance to buy some keebio split ortholinear boards and possibly build a BFO-9000 or something like it.
I am going to try to fix this GH36 prototype and order a layer case for it if I am able to fix it.
I am going to clean up my collection and buy some shelves for my massive collection and clean the cat hair off of them as they are on my floor stacked up.
I am going to fully document my collection and make videos on each of my keyboards in detail in hopes someone will watch them.
I may sell my very small collection of Artisans as I despise having them on my keyboards most of the time, probably keeping those BS clacks though.
I may buy some extremely cheap 60% or ortholinear PCBs and load them up with the thousands of worthless PCB mount gateron and cherry switches I have laying around. build a fort out of them, maybe a cat house.

And like my entire sad existence at geekhack and credit card debt, no one will care.

Well, with 2018 coming rapidly to a close, it's time to take stock of what didn't happen this year and will roll over into 2019:

1. Wait for the following keycap sets to be made/delivered:
    A. SA PuLSE (various) kits - RECEIVED
    B. SA Retro
    C. XDA Oblique - In production supposedly
2. Design a killer Mercury Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. DONE.
3. Super secret keyboard project. In progress (sort of).

At this point I don't hold out any hope that SA Retro will get re-run this year, and I also doubt that XDA Oblique will ship by the end of this year either. But at least the latter is in production (in theory) and I have every reason to expect I'll have it soon...ish.

As we're already reviewing this year here:

My plans involve finding an affordable, probably USB-converted F122 (because the 122 one is the only Model F layout that doesn't suck :blank:) for work.

I surprisingly end this year with a lovely F XT in my office instead. After almost one work day spent with it, I am actually happy about this change in my plans (my desk is full when I eat there :))). At least that will postpone further keyboard plans well into 2019... unless Chyros makes one of those videos again.
