i would love a matte white colour or matte pink :) but i'm in for the GB regardless+1 for the usb port change
also is it possible to change the design and move the usb port to the top of the board? mostly because it's harder to find nice angled usb cables :O
Right when I thought I reached a good amount of boards.
bluetooth and alps support is huge and excited to see if there will be new color options! good luck
Probably gonna have to buy this, just love how it looks.
Any estimate date for when this GB will run?

I have a ca66 from the China buy. Would want to buy just the Bluetooth PCB if possible? I hope it will fit in the old case :)
So glad to have another chance at getting this board! Any chance that the non-bluetooth pcb would support alps?

The reason is so you can put it over your laptop. If the cable is in the back it will hit the screen.

I don't plan on getting the Bluetooth option. I hope the prices will be similar to round 1 If they are I'm in (if not I'm probably still in lol).
Also just wanted to see if the PCB issues from the first round will be addressed.
Thanks for round 2, I'm very excited for this!

Very happy with my R1 board, in for a WKL option for R2!
why do we have to buy both options? F.e. when choosing the brass plate you have to buy the aluminium one as well
Would plates be Alps+MX or can you choose one or the other? Or maybe make it an option to get either MX, Alps, or Alps+MX. Sometimes those dual-fitment plates can be a pain to work with.
Yes please! I'm sure the PCB will be a a bit more expensive due to BT but if the pricing remains consistent for the case and plates then count me in.
Got a dark red CA66 with titanium badge in the last round. That was R3 and this IC being for R4, right?
Count me in for the new PCB and plate! Programmable LEDs here I come! ;D
I’d be in for dark red with brass
I'd be down to buy another one! :thumb: Please add switch top opening to the plate this time around. I'll be ordering two pcbs this time lol
Any chance we can keep the hot swap socket idea for the BT PCB alive?

Love my R1 and would consider an R2 immediately...I only have one question and that's how far is the range of the Bluetooth? I've been fiending for a BT mechanical I can use for my media center PC and others barely seem to go over 4-5'. I know that's not exactly the intended range but I'd be in immediately if it went far :thumb:

I can't imagine that distance gonna be a problem. ;)
My mate try it in his living room while his PC is in his study. That's probably more than 5 meters.
I rest my hand in the bottom row, and the logo would instantly fill with grease
If there's a another version in the future, one with no logo, and possibly a larger bottom row (1.5 modifiers, or 1.25+1.25 modifies) - I would love to join too

There is a WKL version. None of the example pictures in the original post shows it, but do a google image search, you will find some examples.
Or check the last GB thread.
Is that inside a closed aluminum case though? If so, that's GREAT range!
Annnddd I'm in for another one.
Hoping for a dark green option
Any dimensions for the battery insert? Would like to search what battery options are available on market.

Damn it looks good, I wonder if the bottom row supports alternative layouts, a 7U spacebar and 2x modifiers would be ideal
badge (brass or titanium, no badge for WKL like top case)
Champagne might be another great color option

IIRC, in R1 a few people sent you designs for custom badges for their orders, is that going to be an option for R2?
In for a blue one :thumb:

If possible I would opt out and just get a normal wired PCB.
the most expensive media keyboard :))
Want. An IBM or NCR industrial gray color would be nice.
yea, the dark grey with carbon SA looks amazing!
need to get on this last GB. Gray it is.
Please! Please! Confirm that dark red is going to come back?
Ok I have a question, I understand that you might not be able to answer this but I’ll try anyway. There is a lot of group buys going on right now, do you have any idea what the time frame looks like for r2? If it’s not planned for some time I could get in on a board now and save for this one. But if it’s happening soon I can just get in on this. I’m fine regardless but this is a must have board for me and I don’t want to buy something else and end up missing this because of that. Thanks!
I’m also wondering if the Bluetooth PCB is optional? If possible I would opt out and just get a normal wired PCB.
if anyone happens to get dark red and SA royalty, lmk cause thats something id rlly wanna see
I plan on doing just that. If you can get Input Club to get a move on with your set I’d very much appreciate it!

Same question as well. Would you mind sharing about when you'd plan to run the GB?
Have any pins been broken out on the PCB for modding?
Wondering if all that space inside the case could be put to good use?
Same here. WKL with badge would be my 1st preference. Hopefully it is possible his round.
Hi,
I'm heavily leaning towards the WKL-like layout. In previous rounds there was no option to get a badge with that layout. Will you consider adding a badge to the WKL layout this round?
Also, there was a question in the previous GB about breaking out the unused pins on the Atmega32u4 for modding. Is there any chance those pins will be exposed on the board?Have any pins been broken out on the PCB for modding?
Wondering if all that space inside the case could be put to good use?
Yes, but you need to mod directly from 32U4.
Same here. WKL with badge would be my 1st preference. Hopefully it is possible his round.
Please keep one WKL version without the badge.
Will the PCB be fixed to use a proper PWM pin to drive the inswitch LEDs? :)
Also, will it have USB C to C support this time?
Yes! Love the badge logo, love the case design, love the layout, love the colors. Some more unusual muted color options would be cool. For instance RAMA's M-60a had some interesting ideas for the muted mauve color ("Dusk").
I barely convinced myself not to get this the first time, there is no way I can skip round two. That red looks gorgeous but I agree I hope there's some innovative color choices this time!
So glad there's a round 2. Sucked that I missed the first one.I agree!
Such a great looking board. I just have no use for the arrow keys. Then you should buy the original which this design is based on: https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/product/f62-model-f-keyboard-kishsaver/ :)

That would be the 'must get' argument for me.

How heavy is the board??Not that heavy. There's no additional weight and it's fairly hollow. I've found that adding a layer of sound dampening foam is sorta required to eliminate the pinging.

The PC Jr is based on the F62 board, after cost cutting and adding arrow keys. Look at the distinctive ledge above the keys, it was so that you could place a pen or pencil there, since the keyboard was intended for the financial services.Such a great looking board. The design is based on the IBM PC Jr revised keyboard, not the IBM 4704 Model 200.
The good news is that you can get the original board for about $15. The bad news it kinda sucks. It's a rubber dome that feels like typing on damp sponges, particularly on the spacebar.
will there be option for non blue tooth? and Black colored case ?

And if you want the pcjr like kb, without the arrows and actual good switches, you end up at the F62, the grand daddy of this design.
Can this hot swap between 3 device. Just like anne pro, logitech k380 ?
yeah i mean multi-device function :))Can this hot swap between 3 device. Just like anne pro, logitech k380 ?
I think maybe you are confusing between multi-device and hotswapping here. I don't think that's what being hotswappable means.
That's a cool theory and everything, but the original IC explicitly stated it was inspired by the PC Jr keyboard: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=91874.0
It's pretty apparent in the design, as well, given that the case style is nearly identical other than the layout.
Also, that shelf was present on every single Model F. That is not a feature exclusive to the kishsaver. Furthermore, it was primarily intended as a stand for quick reference cards for software, hence the vertical notch to the left side of the shelf on some of the earlier boards (notably the Datamaster, Bigfoot, and F122).

i am not debating what this keyboard was apparently inspired by. the pcjr had a lot of common elements from its predecessors which include model f's and m's. now, the other person said he loved the look, but had no need for the arrow keys, so, i pointed him to the closest keyboard to that which had what he wanted: a quality keyboard with one of the best switches ever designed, and almost similar design - sans arrow keys. the kishsaver is as close as it gets. the designer of this keyboard might have used the pcjr, but the designers of the pcjr used the kishsaver almost certainly. pointing out pcjr, as an alternative, to the person who had no need for the arrow keys would be retarded, wouldn't you think so?

oof, yikes. The original guy was just asking for something similar with no arrow keys is now stuck watching two guys argue what board most resembles a CA66... Poor Dude. No need to call anyone retarded man. kf was only trying to help.
I was in the previous GB. Is there an option to just buy the BT PCB?
A white CA66?

Hey there are some reporting that the bottom of the case being quite thin, leaving ca66 susceptible to echoing. Wonder if R2 will have an improved design with a thicker bottom. thank you.
Any news if prices will be the same as R1?

They’re trying to keep it close but probably wouldn’t expect prices until the gb opens.

Very interested. Been looking for a portable on-the-go keyboard for a while and this could be it.I would not consider this portable. It is relatively large, heavy, and I don't think you would want to risk scratching up the anodised finish.

A version with kailh sockets would be so nice. For the limited layouts available it shouldn't be a big problem to realize. Really no chance to get this option?+1 for this, but I don't think it's going to happen. If they wanted to keep the layout choices and have Kailh hotswap sockets, it would likely require some of the switches to be sideways; kind of like this:

I don't think that would be much of a problem, as none of the sideway ones would be on R3 (the row that's problematic for Cherry profile caps), but it's kind of... eh, iffy.
What is the BT for in a case this heavy? I do not see how this board may benefit of BT. It is an honest question. Do people want to pair this with their phones? :'(I was thinking of using the Bluetooth just to have one less cable on my desk. I also think given the cable placement that Bluetooth would allow the board design to be appreciated more and look better on a desk. I am just wondering if there lag when using a Bluetooth on this board.

Just confirming, I dont mean Kailh hot swap sockets... The pin holes just need to be like .002 mm or something larger to fit Mill Max socket receptacles...https://www.mill-max.com/products/rec/7305

I didn't reply your quote about Kailh sockets. The PCB maker said that it may cause short circuit if expanding switches holes for bot row.
It's not reasonable to make any change just for a demand from few guys.
When a modification is made means we should test it. And what if there are other people wanting to use other sockets?
Hope you can understand. ;)What is the BT for in a case this heavy? I do not see how this board may benefit of BT. It is an honest question. With a BT option doesn't mean that you need to carry CA66 around. There are people always desiring to make their table cleaner when working.
The BT PCB was just an product made by YANG, and we bring it in this round for guys who are interested in it. :D
If one only wants to get the BT PCB, would a plate be included? It was mentioned the plate would be improved to allow better wireless BT transmission.

This is from the last round just wanna say if you aren't hopping on it this time you're missing out ;)
I don't carry mine around with me or anything, but it's really not that heavy. it's no ultra-lightweight like a plank or a HHKB with a plastic case, but it's also not a 4kg monster.
I could see a BT version being used as a travel board by some people.
Personally, I just want BT so I can get rid of one more cord snaking across my desk...

Made this account to reply to the GMK Blue Samurai Interest Check and this!
100% in for a BT CA66 and an extra PCB! If custom color request are open to the panel can I suggest a dark navy / blue black color?
Eitherways, I am in for a unit with spare parts and am super hyped for this interest check to transition into a group buy asap!
Thanks for being such a champion Barry!

Bumping this question since I've joined the previous round.
I know the BT PCB is going to be available separately for people from the previous round, but will the titanium badge also be available for purchase alone? I didn’t get one last round and I’ve regretted not getting one ever since my board arrived.
Idk if this has been asked before, but is there a chance for a 5mm plate?
What's the reasoning behind wanting a 5mm plate? Going the way of the Zephyr?
Will the colors be different to the last gb?
How are the chances for white?

White anodization is impossible due to the white pigment being larger than the pores of aluminium

That's a 660 layout, it already exists. Leopold, Clueboard and KBDfans are simple sources.
Will the colors be different to the last gb?
How are the chances for white?
White anodization is impossible due to the white pigment being larger than the pores of aluminium
He probably means Microarc Oxidation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_electrolytic_oxidation), which is a different type of converting the top layer of aluminum to an oxide and is silver-white in color. A fair number of recent group buys have used MAO for the "white" color finish.
How is ALF doing their white cases (for example the dc60 currently in the gb)? That would be really nice.
Or the matte silver version of ca66: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=93542.msg2549102#msg2549102
Any date estimates on when this will become a group buy?
Hi guys, it's been a while since last update.
We are close to setting options up, but colors options still pending right now.
They will be decided after we discuss with the factory.
Appreciate you guys for being so patient. :thumb:
Sent a failed CA66 case to test white color first for Doppio by electrophoresis. What do you guys think? ;)

Probably would prefer something coloured, personally, but that white finish does look very nice!

Very nice! Is that a glossy finish?

I'm in too!
first time getting in for an IC, can't wait.
Yes.
Just yes.
Been sold on the CA66 ever since I saw a photo of one rocking SA Cyan Dolch.
I am definitely in when this is available. Very handsome.
I am in, love the white, the sooner the better!
I am in for brown. I need it!
Oh thank god this is still in IC, I still have time left to money
Any ETA on when the GB will start ?
Please let this happen in September when I can buy in for all the things. ;D
Well I hadn't been planning to join this since I was in r1, but now I've gotta join for the alps supported pcb and plate. Can't wait!
Any word on Bright Dip Anodizing (https://www.saf.com/faq/what-is-bright-dip/) option, like some Korean boards use (such as those by LZ, Duck, etc.)? Even if it costs extra?Any reference pic for me to check what it really is?
The bright dip is a pre-treatment before anodizing: a dip into a mixture of nitric + phosphoric acids to smooth out the sandblasted surface on the microscale, right before the actual anodizing bath. The difference is that the finish becomes smoother to touch and glossier, more shimmery vs. original sandblasted finish anodized as is.
For examples of bright dip anodizing, you can see LZ boards or Duck boards. You can disregard the texture/grain--that's subject to sandblasting and can be fine or very textured. You can do bright dip on brushed finish too.

And look at the 4th picture of the gold here: http://lzlife.tistory.com/316?category=621101
I think TX keyboards are also done with bright dip anodizing as well, based on the pictures of the older TX-84, TX-CP, etc. Basically it so far it seems common with Korean keyboards.
etc.
Just want to ask.
Is it easy to find alps keycaps to use for CA66's layout?
We know it's cool to have alps as an opion, but wanting to clarify the availability and how many interests in it.

I think its easy enough. Most keys are easy to find. Hardest probably 1.75u right shift.
Pmk sells some 1.75u, think one of the AEK boards have 1.75u. I also know a collaborator from Lunar is casting 1.75u so could buy extra :p maybe they will open up to bigger market.
Biggest selling point for me rn in this buy is Alps compatibility tbh :p
We might can do bright dip finish for some orders, if there's not too many inquires.

Thanks for feedbacks guys. :thumb:
The alps option will only be in Bluetooth PCB. If you guys are okay with the layout it provided, we'll stick to this pic below.

I saw that the led strip is going to be raised up a bit higher from the pcb to prevent light bleeding. I wonder if a more frosted strip will be necessary on the case to prevent led hotspots and to keep a more gradient look.

Will there be a non-ALPS option? I'd like to solder on Holtites but the ALPS slots will make that rather difficult

The part you were saying was already frosted. ;)

No sorry. But the truth is that you can't mount PCB to top case unless you solder switches in it.

Oh, I know that but I’m wondering if it’ll be made thicker to account for the fact that the leds will be closer to the surface and might cause led hotspots instead of a nice ambient light. Perhaps it’s negligible in terms of how much it’s raised. Have you tried one of the new pcbs in the case with the leds on? Does it look fine still?

I beg to differ :)
I have several top mounts with Holtites. Even though I can't swap switches without opening the case to support the PCB from below when putting new switches in, the Holtites will hold on to the switches enough to keep the PCB floating.
Hot-swap would really be a big :thumb:
Thanks for checking again!
Morning from Taiwan guys!
We are planning to start CA66 GB on 15th. :))
My mate will be going to anodizing factory to check all final color options.
And we'll be uploading modded plate and alps plate pics for you guys to have a look.
About PCB, there will be 2 kinds:
1. Normal wire version: with modded RGB led strip and a bit change for fully supporting QMK. USB C to C also supports
2. Bluetooth version: BT4.0, compatible with MX switches and ALPS switches. TMK firmware.
About Hotswappable PCB. Since CA66 wasn't designed for using this way to install and build, the PCB will need some screws to mount to the top case as you guys can see what m60-A did. It should be re-layouted and tested, which is going to cost lots of effort.
We don't think it's a good idea to just produce some PCBs, and you guys are on your own after sending them away.
So sorry to say HS PCB is not available. We'll come up with it in other design to follow the trend. :thumb:
Awesome! Super excited for this!
Few questions,
Will the Bluetooth option not have QMK support and LED strip modifications like on the non-Bluetooth option?
Will we be able to purchase more than one PCB and plate per order?

No QMK for BT PCB. RGB led strip will remain it's fancy. You still can change it's settings.
Extra parts are surly available to be purchased. :thumb:

Is it possible to start the GB a little later? GBs for so many great-looking keyboards are starting at around the same time and our wallets could really do with a bit of time to catch up.
I have a CA66 from the original run in China. Can i just order a bluetooth PCB and plate from this GB?Yes, that will be possible.

Hi, guys.Thank for update ;)
We are trying hard to make the GB happen on time. Please forgive us if we can't make it on 15th. :(
We'll make it live asap.
Thanks!

I have more time to save my money
Hopefully only a day or two! I’m so ready this round.
Hoping for the same purple!I'm very much considering going for the purple with SA troubled minds
Sorry for the delaying. :'(
We are pretty much done for the GB page. Just waiting to do the final check and we are good to post it to GB forum.
Might be show up anytime in these two days. :thumb:
Thanks for all the patience from you guys!

On second glance you’re right. Might be grey. At first I thought it was a mix of GMK Yuri and another set and the navy modifiers matched the case so I thought it must be navy but I realize now this is probably GMK Carbon which has grey mods. So yeah, grey case? 🤷🏼♂️
Oh, so there's no way to get one of the carbon fibre plates from the original BT PCB run? That's a shame :(
Any way to get the brown color?
One tear fell out of my eye when I didn't see brown in that drop down list. Dark red it is I guess.

Whew, I'm glad the $340 price is all-in and pretty close to the original GB price. Don't think I could have made an extra $45 on top of that work.
Can't wait to put in my order!
I don’t know if this was answered before, but how many devices can the Bluetooth pcb remember? And can you switch between devices?
@PlayKeyboardTW can you please mark which color is in each image of the keyboard. not, the samples, since those are hard to visualize, the full keyboard. maybe just write the color at the bottom of each keyboard image on the shop page.

Woops. Thanks!
What is the difference between plate R1 & R2?
I can see the hole near the Cap, so i'll blink when BT is connected?
And the switch between TAB & Q is the on/off BT?
Anything else?
