I'd like to buy a Pearl 60 whenever that comes out and go all out with mods, lube, stem swap, spring swap, bandaid, all of it.

Same... I am still thinking about trying to pick up a pearl 40%..

1) Cut my keyboard collection down to one for work, and one for home.

2) Ensure that the one for home is my Happy Hacking Keyboard Professional 2, and finally get used to the layout.

2+) Learn Emacs

I'm planning on making a nice TKL + Numpad for someone with BOX Navies, some thicc SA Caps in a steel case, an XD75AM For me with ALPS Oranges in most likely a KBDFans 5 Degree or another aluminium case with a custom made steel plate, also selling off a lot of my topre stuff since it doesn't get used much because of my HHKB

2018 was the first year I got into the custom side of keyboards, even though I've had mechanicals for almost 10 years. The 2018 bucket list is getting whittled down:

- Try SA profile
- Try 60/65% size
- Get an early Model M in restored/good condition

- Get a Model F (pending GB)
- Try all available MX, BOX, and Zealio switches on complete boards (except the really light ones)
- Build custom switches (ergo clear/Hako Royals/72g Tealio/55g Box black)
- Build custom board
- Increase wpm by at least 10

- Sell off boards I won't likely use again (such a hassle, I'm almost to the point where I might just throw out some of them to clear up space lol)

-Receive and build The Moon TKL with Box Navies (Possibly my end game). --Built with Box Navies (basically end game). Second PCB built with MX Silent Blacks with 100g springs.
-Hope that Model F77 is delivered this year. (Possibly runner up end game).
-Build a Model M from spare Unicomp inner assembly I have and use Ellipse's new keycaps on it.
-Receive GMK Dark Solarized. Probably stick it on M65-A or something. --Received, currently on M65-A.
-Receive SA Carbon. Probably stick it on The Moon. --Received, currently on Moon with Silent Blacks
-Bolt mod my SSK so that it doesn't feel quite as much like poop.
-Maybe order the Contra 40% ortho. It's so cheap that I think I HAVE to get one. --Wait for R2, I guess.
-Maybe get in on Donutcat's cheapo 96 key GB. --Decided to forgo this.
-Get TEX TKL case for V80 -- DONE
-Figure out what to do about the MX Silent Black spring fiasco. In the meantime, I chose to have Novelkeys hold the switches until VicareyG hears back from the distributor. --Received, lubed, spring swapped with 100g springs, and filmed.
-Stop buying keyboard stuff so that I can finally spend money on other hobbies, or, you know, save it.
-Receive MX/Alps stab inserts so that I can fix my V80 stabilizers.
-Receive and build TheKey.Company TKC 1800, maybe with Box Royals. --Done. My new work keyboard.
-Desolder those Mx Silent Blacks and put 85g springs in them or something. 100g springs were way too heavy.
-Desolder the MX Blacks from the old 1800 PCBs I ordered. Probably lube them. I need to find something to put them in, maybe some cheap 60%.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

I am in mech keyboards quite shortly - cca since spring of 2018. So I obtained and tested IBM M/Unicomp, Matias Tactile Pro (clicky), and KBParadise TKL with pretty interesting tai-hao APC soft click switches. After this initial experience, I want to continue more "systematically" and I am still (and will be for some time, surely) just in switch testing (not custom board making, keycaps etc.). So my plans ahead are:

- obtain switch tester with 63 switch types (on the way)
- obtained hot-swappable keyboard (zhuque)
- later choose switches based on switch tester experience and try them in zhuque keyboard
- clean some old keyboards I bought/acquired (white alps, MX blue, black alps + other, usually rare switches which I need to identify yet)
- rebuild one Dell AT101 from black alps to "modified" black alps - first linear, than clicky version, which is irreversible (I have two Dell AT101 so I will retain one with black ALPS, the other with modified ones)

Haven't done anything keyboard related for a couple years, but I ordered an R2 that I should be picking up in about a week in Japan. Hope it can be a great alternate or even main board, and that the actuation point changer function is useful for gaming. Will make a review in short order!

Quoting for emphasis.

2018 plans:

1 - Get into ALPS - DONE
2 - Spend far too much on tooling ALPS - DONE
3 - SMK65 w/ holtites and AEKII - half done
4 - Tv45 w/ holtites and ALPS Intl grab-bag - half done
5 - Regret getting into ALPS - half done

Seriously though, ALPS support wtf? Pine Whites and Creams/Orange are seriously good yet support is pretty well nonexistent except retro / grab-bag happenings...

Other 2018 plans:
- Possibly mount the Laser set
- Possibly mount the Legacy DSA set (Pulse, in DSA)
- Possibly mount tty/dev on SMK65 if the adapters come to fruition
- Possibly sell off everything MX except Aristotle because of disappointment
Tada68 (Jailhouse Aristotles) / MiniVan (Jailhouse Aristotles) / Planck (Aristotles) / Teensy m0116 (Matias QC) / ALPS64 ('Pine' SKCM White) / Teensy NeXT Non-ADB (SKCM Cream) / ALPS HHKB (SKCM Orange)

Pretty much accomplished mine already!

Harvested Blue alps from my leading edge 2014, used them for a LFKeyboards TKL with DSA Granite.

Used VA68m aluminum case with a hotswap pcb to have fun testing out different switches with.

Now to find the right keyboard for my windows 98 set up - got matching dell xps T500 and it's p990 CRT monitor. Thinking an early model AT-101 with salmon alps, that or a model M or old cherry board.

With the exception of receiving/installing the converter for the Pingmaster I bought...I have largely finished my 2018 plans.

1. Replace all boards at my work to IBM buckling springs (co-workers have been ok with this). Have a 2017 Unicomp Ultra Classic and a 1991
Dell Old Logo Model M made by Lexmark as the boards (one to match my desk color and the other to match my 2nd computer make...I have 2
    computers at my desk).
We've reached endgame for work (Model F not enough keys and i have a lot of specific data entry/Mainframe usage that uses all F1-F12
    keys...native keys, no shortcuts/workarounds accepted)

2. Replace my laptop and provide an tenkeyless mechanical board to hook into its replacement since it would mostly be stationary.
(Aukey KM-G7 with RGB PBT keycaps, makes the Outemu Blues sound much better).

3. Reach home endgame with a Model F XT with a Soarer's Converter (Beamspring won't fit on my desk/not enough keys even if i had the cash
plus I use Function keys too much...no need for F11-F12 but need F1-F10)
4. Have a spare Model M, MX based board (got a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate from 2012 for $1 as a garage sale with MX Blues, in process of
putting PBT keycaps on it) and a novelty type board (for me) to use whenever (IBM Pingmaster received, waiting for converter).

You can probably tell I'm a buckling spring fan or at least one with a affinity towards clicky switches!

Cherry MX switches are actually quite nice for gaming. I played MOBAs on MX blues for years, it was quite awesome.
Not so easy with the Model M anymore.

edit:
My plans involve finding an affordable, probably USB-converted F122 (because the 122 one is the only Model F layout that doesn't suck :blank:) for work. The difference between a rubberdome and my M122 at home has become too obvious in only two days and reading too much geekhack has finally broken my will to not go too deep, money-wise. Or I'll just get a second Unicomp. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes I use my mech for gaming. I don't want to switch just because I am playing a game.
I will say that I prefer a clicky switch to these Zealios's for gaming.

I am going to finally build these phantoms and ergodox i have laying around, apparently after you build 4 of each you lose the need to build more. they have no resale value at all they are completely worthless.
I am going use a little bit of keyboard allowance to buy some keebio split ortholinear boards and possibly build a BFO-9000 or something like it.
I am going to try to fix this GH36 prototype and order a layer case for it if I am able to fix it.
I am going to clean up my collection and buy some shelves for my massive collection and clean the cat hair off of them as they are on my floor stacked up.
I am going to fully document my collection and make videos on each of my keyboards in detail in hopes someone will watch them.
I may sell my very small collection of Artisans as I despise having them on my keyboards most of the time, probably keeping those BS clacks though.
I may buy some extremely cheap 60% or ortholinear PCBs and load them up with the thousands of worthless PCB mount gateron and cherry switches I have laying around. build a fort out of them, maybe a cat house.

And like my entire sad existence at geekhack and credit card debt, no one will care.

Well, with 2018 coming rapidly to a close, it's time to take stock of what didn't happen this year and will roll over into 2019:

1. Wait for the following keycap sets to be made/delivered:
    A. SA PuLSE (various) kits - RECEIVED
    B. SA Retro
    C. XDA Oblique - In production supposedly
2. Design a killer Mercury Rocketeer group buy bundle for MassDrop. DONE.
3. Super secret keyboard project. In progress (sort of).

At this point I don't hold out any hope that SA Retro will get re-run this year, and I also doubt that XDA Oblique will ship by the end of this year either. But at least the latter is in production (in theory) and I have every reason to expect I'll have it soon...ish.

As we're already reviewing this year here:

My plans involve finding an affordable, probably USB-converted F122 (because the 122 one is the only Model F layout that doesn't suck :blank:) for work.

I surprisingly end this year with a lovely F XT in my office instead. After almost one work day spent with it, I am actually happy about this change in my plans (my desk is full when I eat there :))). At least that will postpone further keyboard plans well into 2019... unless Chyros makes one of those videos again.
<armin> i have the impression the only reason the mx red switch was invented was drunk people
