Scissor keyboard keycaps - where to get replacement?
« on: Mon, 12 March 2018, 03:16:19 »
I have an old keyboard with scissor switches and some of the keycaps are broken. Keycaps shape is like on old Thinkpad laptops keyboards, not island-style. I tried to search keycap sets, but with no luck. Does anyone produce/sell them separately from keyboard? As for now, the only option I see is to find a used (old, broken) keyboard and use it as a donor.

Not all scissor switches are the same, so your only real option is to get a donor board.
I proxy anything including keyboards (キーボード / 鍵盤), from both Japan (日本) and China (中國). For more information, you may visit my dedicated webpage here: https://www.keyboards.es/proxying.html

Well, I'm talking about the most common one, I guess - the X-type scissors. I have 3 such keyboards and saw many laptops with the same mechanism type, so if there is a store that sells the keycaps that would be very nice.

Yes and every manufacturer has a different way of mounting the scissors to the cap. I have four different laptops at home and each has a different mounting method.

There always seem to be people selling individual keycaps from all sorts of keyboards on eBay.  Have you looked there?

Of course, but found nothing. Maybe I've searched wrong keywords? :)
