the crowdsource keyset
« on: Wed, 24 July 2013, 11:16:22 »
ok, so im a sentimental guy

i have fallen in love with topre and will be shedding a lot of my mx stuff, but the things that i could never part with are boards that came from other people, i have my poker from jd and a filco from gliss i couldnt bare to part with, mainly because i just like have a something from a somebody, and putting a person to an item

so in the spirit of sentimentality, i figure lets go all out on a board, so what i would like to do is put together a keyset, where every key came from a different person here on gh, i am probably setting my sites a little high here, and i may not have all the logistics down, but that is where im heading

so what i want more precisely is to assemble a keyset for the filco i won from glissbro, key by key from people

i guess to make my life as easy as possible, im gonna have to pick a profile, so lets just say dcs/cherry , apart from the top row profile caps where we can get a bit more funky

i guess the best way to go about it is if someone intends to send me a character, to post it below so i dont get lots of the same things, and as and when i receive anything i will mark in the thread that i have gotten it, and i will also constantly update pics on the progress of the set

just to get even more ambitious, there is a list of about 20 people i am determined to get a key from, so if they dont join voluntarily, im gonna have to go out of my way to trick them into making it happen, i may have to put a checklist of these people up lol

if people would like to somehow mark or sign the underside or back of a key, that would be awesome, if not no worries, i will know who every key is from anyway

this may be a massive failure, it may take ages, but it will be fun trying to complete something like this, and trying to convince 87 different people to do me a favor

so here goes

spamray will happily proxy if yo uare in the US, just ask him for his address

What about shipping all the caps to one person in the US (since the majority of the GH users are in the US) and then having that once person to ship them all to you?

I'll have to look at my sets to see what one I can spare.

that would make a lot of sense if someone is willing to do it etc, or perhaps even if its like a group of 5 or something

I actually tried it a long time ago and not only was it not very easy, but considered copyrighted material.

I think my key would be i3 and I could make it for R1 and R2 :)

I just wanted to throw out there that it is possible to mail a single key cap in the USA in an envelope so your only out the cost of the envelope and stamp and of course the keycap!

YMMV however and it could get lost or destroyed but I have done this successfully before.

Just to be safe you might double envelope and/or wrap it in paper etc and maybe use two stamps.

Cheers to that!! I'm not into completely blanked-out boards, but I do believe that blank keys are not used frequently enough. Like the arrow cluster: does anybody NOT know what those keys do? LOL. Go BLANKS!!!

I would before mentioning what I would like to send, say that, anyone who has been in GH for even remotely the shortest periods of time should have realised this so far and if you haven't, there is something really wrong with you, and for those that are new or are guests, I would like to tell you that this gentleman, Mr.BunnyLake, is perhaps one of the most generous persons I have met not only online but on the interwebz and in reality.

I would generally never send a keycap to someone when they ask for it, but BunnyLake is a man of true integrity and let me tell you, he gives back in multifolds :P. What he has requested is infact is not a request at all from him, but an opportunity for us to show our gratitude towards him and tell him how important a member he is of this community, how much we appreciate his generosity and his love for this community.

So, guys get on this, send so many keycaps, that we fill not only the Filco but also the Poker!

But, here is my contribution to your keyboard: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MKC-geekhack-3D-Anodized-Aluminum-Backspace-Cherry-MX-Keycap-/230849347373

You already know I am a fan of metal/wood/fancy stuff :D, so nothing less.

I'm sorry about this, and I posted something like this in the Keycap Exchainge thread aswell, rather than send the key from my place (Shipping is terrible, ~$40 min), I will order it online and have it ship to you. Please PM me your address.

So BACKSPACE is mine!

I think G is already spoken for, but if T is open you can put me down for that key.

Taken by yours truly, sorry man. How about / or \? Those are strokes :)

Apparently it's time to retire my username.  I have no idea why people think it has an "r" in it.

I'll take your suggestion under advisement, have to see what sets I have at the moment, and which ones I have spares for.  Thanks!

*facepalm* My bad man, I honestly thought it was Greystroke. I guess it's human nature to assume that words will be ones that you've seen more often.
