On a completely unrelated and slightly trivial note given the overall cost of the board: the interconnect cable. How short is "short"? What color will the cable be?
Just had a VE.A clone with connectivity issues: maybe I moved the thing around too much, I dunno, but it's got me overthinking. If my SP-111 interconnect gets disconnected, does that bother the connected half? Any benefit to using the sort of disconnect similar to apple's magsafe so I don't inadvertently put tension on the USB-C?
BA111, you're using this board, what do you think?
I signed up for a Geekhack account for this GB (long time lurker though).
Excited (as are others I’m sure) for this!
Some questions if you don’t mind -
- Is the finish different texture-wise in the three colors?
- would one of the three be less prone to scratches, or perhaps reveal less if scratched?
- what color would you pair the upcoming GMK Dracula with haha
Good luck with the run!
Is there any chance of posting the plate file a couple weeks before shipping the boards? That will give people time to design and get custom plates made before they get their boards.
Thanks for cleaning up the thread. It did seem tangential to the point of this group buy.
When is this likely to go live on the key.company?
I added ISO support to the plate, just was on the fence for a while but decided why not?
QuoteI added ISO support to the plate, just was on the fence for a while but decided why not?
ISO layout is listed on TheKeyCompany as "PCB Supported Only" though. Did the vendors receive this update?
Hey, is this going up on candeykeys? Really looking forward to this keeb :)
Still no sign of this on the EU vendor
Hey mate,
I have 2 questions. Will this support Millmax sockets specifically 0305? Also I'm a tad new and was wondering what exactly layout wise you mean PCB supported only?
so is this at all happening on candykeys or not? its a week now.
Im looking to get the KAM little pilot set to use in this board. Right now I’m looking at the alphas, base mods, num pad, and 40’s. Just wanted to double check before I buy.
White or Black??
I can't decided...
Most of my keycaps are white alphas with colored mods..
I’m also interested in the millmax sockets. If you didn’t mind i’d be willing to buy (and have shipped to you) some sizes so you could let us know?
(I don’t know if sharing info like addresses via PM is discouraged. I could also PayPal you a few bucks and you could just order some yourself. For science!)
Hi, I noticed that the EU provider (CandyKeys) doesn't offer the PCB on its own, is there an option for EU people to get that? (maybe i can just order it from TheKeyCompany)?

Huh, didn't notice that sorry :(. Well probably too late to add it but best bet would be to order that separately from TKC.

I still have one confusion over the plate vs. PCB layout support. The KLE picture that shows "PCB only" has the 2u numpad "0", "Enter" and "+" keys. Does this mean the plate doesn't support 2u numpad keys? The plate looks like it would support them just fine, and many renders have 2u keys (though there are different looking plates in some of the renders without keysets).
aahhh ok I see, thank you for the clarification, I didn't notice the left/right side orientationI still have one confusion over the plate vs. PCB layout support. The plates support "normal" numpad 2u's but mirrored numpad (2u's on the left) are only supported on the PCB.
Did we ever get the final count? Still excited for this.
Extras were mentioned on the discord. The key company will tell us when it’s time (summer, prolly)
They run round 2 w different colors, I’m in then too (red?)
Any extras by chance? If not, maybe a round 2 at some point in the future?

I am waiting on the second pcb revision to come in to check on this. I changed quite a bit around from the v1 so don't want to comment in case it is different for some reason. They should be here soon.
Update:
GB goes live tomorrow, hope everyone is excited!
Sorry for reviving this old post, but I'm getting really excited for this board. I, too, am concerned about what happens if the slave is disconnected from the master while the master is powered on. Any insight?

Nothing bad will happen at all, it just removes that half of the board. The master works fine with or without the slave.

Both halves have ESD protection so there shouldn't be any issue with that.
Great to know! I really appreciate it!
1 further question - with the sandwich mount, is there any way to isolate the plate vibration? I was thinking like silicone o-rings, but not sure how or what diameter to use.
Thanks :)
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Only issue would be the USB ports have to lineup with the cutouts and there isn't a ton of room for misalignment. So if you used o-rings you would have to crank it down to compress them and then the plate would probably slap the case. I didn't design it for o-rings to be added on so I wouldn't recommend it but if you want to play with it do so at your own risk.
Hmm good call-out. I think I may need to cut some foam to put between the plate and PCB, hopefully that will minimize some of the referred vibration.
Thanks!!

Extras will be available after GB orders ship, Might be down for an R2 but not sure atm.
small questions! is the late july shipping still on track? and do you have a pic of the pcb? woudl wanna know if i have to clip my tangerines! and can i use Leds?
On discord this morning, the estimate was:
1. After M0lly
2. 3 weeks to ship to TKC, another month to QC and get em out, so maybe like October
Add in my corollary, which is “all revised estimates are also optimistic themselves” and I think we’re deep into Q4. Honestly I’m just glad it sounds like this year.
Update September 25, 2020 — Got delayed at anodization factory, machined parts oxidized, and now all CNC parts had to be remade.

Sums up 2020 pretty well. :-X
TKC can’t get their fulfillment center Prep Kanga to get switches shipped out in inside of a month to where ordering from Singapore/Ilumkb via singpost is the same price and now faster to Houston, and they have been nothing but apologists for terrible service to where I wouldn’t believe much from them anyways. If they were going to show accountability, it would have been on fruit switches months ago vs coordinating boards w multiple teams/factories.
Logistics are hard, harder during Covid, and decent people occasionally sign bad deals. Ok. But what I really abhor is the passing of bad information: keyreactive saying KAT sets this month are gonna ship in 28 weeks when sets from months ago are currently 40 weeks and they haven’t been on time yet, Drop saying GMK Kanji was going to ship in September at the end of March when the state they ship from was closed down due to Covid and every GMK set known to man was months delayed, etc.
I don’t think TKC knows much concrete and can give an update, and if they did, it would be from some unreliable source up the supply chain. I’m not sure we even know anything’s ever been cut and not anodized and that’s not just an excuse as there aren’t even pictures of the intermediates, and if TKC had those pictures...seems like they’d have posted them? If we ask for more updates, my worry is we’ll be fed the same nonsense about progress as before, it won’t be true, and we’ll be worse off than we were with no recourse other than the one people should already be taking, which is: when you can....buy elsewhere.
I’ll offer you this: I’m happy to bet actual money my 3 SP-111’s won’t be in my hands in 2020.
TKC has closed their product specific Discord channels, including the SP-111 page.
So all of the discussion there about compatibility, accessories, all the excited chats and questions answered are now lost.
This came like a week after they committed to providing weekly updates on the product (because of inordinately extreme delays).
Now we get a single line grouped into the rest of their products that says this:
"SP-111: No update."
To be honest I'm pissed. They have over 60k dollars cash locked away for a year now, they may as well have invested it and are profiting off it for all the clarity we are being shown.
Can @BlindAssassin111 or anyone who knows TKC staff ask them for some real accountability here?
If the boards were made and just not anodized, do you have photos of them?
Like this:
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=102775.msg2818220#msg2818220
If it's your board, and youre running the GB, and the vendors only collected money for you, it's time to show some primary data: screencaps, pictures of intermediate products, terms of contract, copies of your weekly emails to the manufacturer asking for updates. Our only recourse is chargebacks to our vendors and we'll need to assess whether sufficient due diligence is being done.
There's no chance this board arrives in 2020, and that's fine; I'd just like to know the buy actually exists.
lets not turn this thread into a TKC hate thread please, lets keep that other places as this isn't TKC's board but mineI was meaning that this isn't the place for the TKC specific comments, lets keep this about this board only. I say this because I just don't want this to turn into a tkc **** thread and have all of that drama in here. If you want to ***** at them, do it in their discord server or via customer service so they can see it as they don't check this thread at all.
Ok that makes sense. Which entity does contact the factory/has a contract with the factory?

Jason, the owner of TKC is the one who would have this info.
Looking at TKC discord, seems like the SP-111 is moving along and now in QC. (Attachment Link)
Have you tried reaching out to him? Just a bit frustrating we haven't had any sort of update after the last bit of news, feels like we are in limbo here.
I've asked for a photo of the items being QC'd. If there's one I haven't seen could it be posted here?
The Key Company discord is where updates would be posted. It’s still in transit, and I don’t think that’s terribly surprising given the delays in international shipping. If you ordered from TKC likely a few more months.i ordered from candykeys
From what I understand they are just waiting for some of the stuff to arrive, as parts are slowly coming in but not enough to actually ship anything yet. So we are not that far off, just not sure on an exact date/timeline atm.
For those wondering, GB orders from TKC have started to ship!!! Sorry for the long wait but we are getting closer to finishing round 1 of the SP-111.

Got my shipping notice today with the white one included.
Calling it round 1 gives me hope for round 2...
The discord update on Monday said the white ones were still in production whilst the black and navy were shipping.I asked about e-white this morning on the discord server, and was told

Getting around to put the Sp-111 together, but running into a small issue. When I plug in the pcb, windows is finding it fine, but in VIA it is not discovering it. Keytester works though. Am I missing something? Do I have to upload keymap or something?
Yes, I think that is my issue, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I eventually found the hex file in qmk configurator and was able to compile everything. But when I try to flash in qmk toolbox, it says there are no devices available :/. The only boards I've built, I've just plugged them in and VIA finds them right away so I guess I have been spoiled. Ya, I was a bit confused at first. I haven't had to use QMK in awhile. I figured out my issue though, it looks like I was using the wrong hex file, not sure where I found the original one but it wasn't the viktus one... Once I used that, I was able to flash it fine and now I can see everything perfect. Thank you for the help!!Yes, I think that is my issue, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. The file in qmk configurator is not going to be VIA compatible. You have to use the firmware from the link I mentioned. To flash with qmk toolbox: run qmk toolbox, connect your keyboard, press the reset button under the pcb(sometimes there is key combination to reset the pcb but I don't know if sp111 has that) and then qmk toolbox should see it.

The reason was via wasn't merged until after production of the pcbs finished unfortunately so the firmware preloaded wasn't compatible. But the QMK firmware is VIA compatible, you don't have to go to via to find it. The only change is a vendor ID and product ID that is known by via hence it needing to be merged on their end but the QMK firmware has the IDs in it to allow it to work.
I'm only just finding out about this keyboard and it looks perfect for my work setup, any chance to get an extra at this point?
I have a peculiar issue in that I cannot remap my backspace. Period.
I downloaded and flashed the viktus_sp111_via.hex and got the board working in VIA. I can remap every other key without any issues whatsoever but for some reason I can't remap the full backspace which is permanently bound to 'Delete'.
I can change it's mapping in VIA but it has no effect on that key at all. It continues to operate solely as 'Delete'.
Any ideas?

You need to set is as split backspace layout and set both keys to backspace.
Has this layout been merged into qmk_firmware repo? I can't seem to find it

Any chance for a plate with flex cuts next round?
What leds does anyone recommend for the 3 inserts on the left pcb?Did you found out? I have the same question. Dont want to finish the build without LEDs. (I have no clue about LEDs, but cant stand them being empty!)

Have another weird one for you guys haha. That's concerning, I'm not sure about the esd protection on this board, but might be worth messaging Blind Assassin directly.
I just noticed that every now and again, when I go to touch the Sp-111, I am getting a static shock (nothing crazy). Specifically when I go to use the numpad, it has happened maybe 4 or 5 times now. The keyboard works fine, but what I have noticed is that each time it happens my UW seems to be affected and the screen momentarily flicks off or black, then returns to normal a second later. It is a $1,500 monitor so it has me sweating a little bit. Any ideas of what this could be? I should also mention that the keyboard is not plugged into the monitor or anything weird like that.

I'd recommend checking for environmental culprits: winter weather/dry air, personal static build up (are you wearing socks only when this happens? Does it occur with rubber soled shoes?), Is the cable a custom cable? Are both halves of the board well connected?
In the short term I personally would err on the side of caution and stop using it until you get some further info, I don't think it'll impact your monitor but esd has been known to fry pcb's, particularly on split boards.

Have you ever had issues with static on other metal boards? And have you tried swapping boards when this occurs to see if the issue is more environment than keyboard specifically? I ask because depending on local weather (humidity level specifically) is a large culprit of things like this. I know JayzTwoCents did a video not that long ago about his issues with static and his monitor but he lives in a very arid area but winter as well drops humidity enough to cause similar issues.
But the PCB does have ESD protection so hopefully nothing will happen on that end but I am not sure what else could cause this given I have never personally had this issue but I also live in a very humid area so static is not a common issue. That's concerning, I'm not sure about the esd protection on this board, but might be worth messaging Blind Assassin directly.

There is ESD protection on every single connector on this board so that shouldn't be an issue.
Glad to know about the esd protection!
Yeah I bet if it's Maine weather that's a big factor. I also wonder if there may be some potential for shorting, perhaps lining the bottom of the case with a thin rubber or foam might be a smart move.
