why is their moq so high?
Just by looking on taobao, you can see China really enjoys vivid colors when you look up keycaps. The amount of unicorn vomit is quite impressive. But what does that all have in common? The possibility for legends to be visible. Each black PBT keycap that's still available has some sort of engraved, infill design. Looking at the black PBT sets a few years back, most were laser engraved or etched to show legends. My guess for the high MOQ is that the factory that imsto, KBC, Vortex, what-have-you uses probably thinks that dye subbing sets in all black isn't beneficial for them hence why you rarely see black PBT sets nowadays. Ducky black PBT sets are a good example as mechanicalkeyboards, etc. haven't gotten stock since forever (aside from what Ducky Nordic can come up with like the engraved QWERTZ sets, etc. but even those are only a few). Another is that Vortex black on black/charcoal set with the ugly font. You hardly see those anymore (probably because the font was so ugly
). I'm certain that dark charcoal will be similar to what will be used for the non blank set so the Cherry font can be dye sub onto it.
I remember bugging imsto (others have too I believe) if he would do blank, black sets and he would reply with a simple 'No' regardless of whatever amount you'd pay him/bribe him with. I'm still curious as to what Ivan said to imsto so he could convince the factory to run these sets. I'm still hoping for more people to get in on this because I really would like to see this actually happen as there's a spacebar that's PBT as opposed to BSP and their lack of spacebar molds.
My $0.02.
