Perhaps the original Dario 286 keyboard was a "brick"... meaning it didn't work.

Haha... the Dario keyboard needs a cleaning and Retrobright, so pix of that later.

njbair, they are authentic TA caps on KMAC II, I was (half) joking earlier today that I was going to get a very expensive cinder block in the mail, as the keyboard was coming from a non-community member in Croatia.

Sorry, we were joking yesterday if he would get a working board, non-working board (aka "brick"), or actual brick in his package.

Here are some other images that may be of interest.

A shop attempting to capture what the boards looked like new in '89:

A less shopped pic that shows more closely how the board looks in person. Mods are quite yellowed, sea green. (alphas are also yellowed but I also corrected them here)

To intelli78:

I know that you had to deal with all other urgent questions ...
Have you had any chance to find out whether MD can mark the package to Europe (including the UK) as re-import perhaps with zero duty value please?

No... I must have missed your reply. I don't remember getting a clear answer to the question: Is this import duty something separate from VAT? VAT is unavoidable but if it's something else, I can bring it up to them again.
Thanks intelli. Yes it is separate. When you receive something in the EU (varies a bit by country) if the value of imported goods is above certain threshold you have to pay duty + Vat. In this case we can eliminate "duty" because it is re-import. (Note that theoretically there should not be any duty because it is a keyboard parts but I often had to pay duty regardless. This is what we want to avoid.) :thumb:
To intelli78:
I am not sure whether you heard back from MD about labelling the packages to the EU (incl. UK) are re-import?

My second question is ... I am kind of worried to ask  :)) ... are you planning to introduce later on (in the future) add-on keycaps as a separate GB? I will definitely be interested to get some extra items such as R4 arrows or even other special goodies.

No response yet. I'm not planning that but anyone else is welcome to do it, and I will help however I can.

Nice, I guess I'm gonna get a set now.

I'm not really familiar with the Cherry profile: Does the set in these pictures have a R4 bottom row? And are the arrow keys R4 as well?

This has convinced me that TA will look awesome on a modern board. I think I'm going to save my set for the Hubble Mira TKL!

Now the only question is, do I get the Mira in gunmetal...or teal?

I don't believe so, nubbs, but I am looking into it. Also wouldn't expect group orders from Asian communities, which could be substantial, to come in until last couple days. I'm not worried at all about 500, just want to try to get it a far past that as possible.

Potential for extra keys if we get far enough past?  Lower price?  Something else?

Massdrop negotiated pretty hard on this, so perks we might normally get at levels like 1000 are not really on the table. That goodwill is already built into the $99 price. I believe it might be possible to do something around 1,500 but that's obviously a big stretch.

Here's a way to help for anybody with 10-15 minutes to spare:

Send a tip to the following blogs.

Verge - http://www.theverge.com/tip-us
Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/about/tips/
Gizmodo - tipbox@gizmodo.com
GigaOM - news@gigaom.com
ZDNet - http://www.zdnet.com/tip-us-off/
TechCrunch - http://techcrunch.com/got-a-tip/

Just write a couple sentences about the significance of the buy and the history/rarity of the caps, and link to one or both of these reddit threads to show there is a lot of interest. You can copy-paste the same message to all the blogs.

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/30lfyw/photos_triumph_adler_g813000_keycaps_w_croatian/

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3066to/buying_gmk_triumph_adler_now_live_on_massdrop_the/

I will be really grateful to anyone who takes the time to do this. If enough people tip them off, one of the bigger blogs could pick it up - as mentioned before in this thread, they love retro revival stuff - and it could spread easily from there.

Done. (All of them, including Ars Technica.)

Here was my quick writeup:

Quote
Vintage keycap set reproduction: GMK Triumph Adler

There is a community effort to create a reproduction of a very rare and well-loved keyboard color set from the Triumph Adler 286.

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3066to/buying_gmk_triumph_adler_now_live_on_massdrop_the/

Example keyboard with an original Triumph Adler keyset:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/30lfyw/photos_triumph_adler_g813000_keycaps_w_croatian/

This is an interesting human interest story because the set will not be produced unless enough people commit to purchase. That said, it's impressive that so many people (over 400 so far) are willing to spend $100 on replacement keycaps. The story is also historically interesting because the beautiful teal color is actually accidental--the result of blue plastic yellowing over time due to chemical additives.

It may seem like $100 is a lot for keycaps, but these will be among the highest-quality caps produced today. The keycaps will be produced by the German company GMK, who now owns and operates the original Cherry machinery that produced keycaps throughout the '80s and early '90s.

I will send in a note as well. It would be really neat to see a write up on a high profile site.

Here's a way to help for anybody with 10-15 minutes to spare:

Send a tip to the following blogs.

Verge - http://www.theverge.com/tip-us
Engadget - http://www.engadget.com/about/tips/
Gizmodo - tipbox@gizmodo.com
GigaOM - news@gigaom.com
ZDNet - http://www.zdnet.com/tip-us-off/
TechCrunch - http://techcrunch.com/got-a-tip/

Just write a couple sentences about the significance of the buy and the history/rarity of the caps, and link to one or both of these reddit threads to show there is a lot of interest. You can copy-paste the same message to all the blogs.

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/30lfyw/photos_triumph_adler_g813000_keycaps_w_croatian/

http://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/3066to/buying_gmk_triumph_adler_now_live_on_massdrop_the/

I will be really grateful to anyone who takes the time to do this. If enough people tip them off, one of the bigger blogs could pick it up - as mentioned before in this thread, they love retro revival stuff - and it could spread easily from there.

May I also suggest Ars Technica. I have found out about a lot of more obscure tech happenings there, and several of their staff writers are keyboard enthusiasts:

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/09/typing-stealth-a-review-of-the-code-keyboard/
Done both, I hope it helps.  :thumb:

Thanks for the tip - done. Will you contact them as well? Who else? They're much more likely to pay attention if they get multiple tips.
I know LinusTechTips is sponsored by Massdrop, so maybe you could work something out

Man I've been behind lately, I just saw this one.
Usually I'm only into blank sets but I feel like snagging two or three of these.

That would be boss. 2-3 sets goes a long way when we only need about 70 more.

I'm so close to buying a 2nd set...but I've already got Hack'd and 2 sets of Hyperfuse on order. That seems a little excessive.

Excessive....which tosser thinks that?

This is GEEKHACK which is suppose to be the HOME of Keyboard and Key-cap Adulation, hence no such thing as that perverted word known as "excessive".  That word is better used upon the plebeian scum trash, residing elsewhere that are too ignorant to know what true key-cap collecting means.

ALWAYS go in hard and take no prisoners when it comes to getting what you deserve my son.  Don't rely on other losers to cap your collecting needs and wants because they are the ones with real issues, not you  8) .

Stand tall and keep acquiring every decent key-cap made either by GMK or SP, it's your destiny to collect as much of them as humanly possible  :thumb: .

Haha yeah you don't know excessive.  7bit apparently took home trashbag-sized hauls for himself from his own GBs.  If you're still in 3 digits, you aren't excessive at GH
