Not if I can't secure the rights from Blizzard Entertainment; Signature Plastics is putting a hold on all copyrighted/potentially copyrighted material and refusing to do anything without permission from the organizations who own the images.

That's a major bummer, first I miss the group buy for SC2 double shots by a day and now this

Yea; I really don't want to lose the SC2 side of our Group Buy Scene but it isn't looking too good. I sent out the email on Tuesday and haven't heard anything back yet. If that route doesn't work I will find a way to prove that they don't 'own' the images for the ladder badging.

Hope Blizz get's back fast, I'm really really impatient. I'm about to rip out my hair (and i love my hair).

I don't think Blizz has copyright over some very basic geometric shapes. I really can't see them having copyright over a hexagon with star in it.

If Plan B fails is the next step finding someone else to make them?

Also, I've tallied about 40 set's that people are interested in. So I don't think there's much of an issue there.

There is always the method of proving that the designs are not in violation of copyright laws. More specifically that the designs are not under protection of the US copyright laws based on their use of Geometric Shapes and Common Designs (I believe its Chapter 13, Original Designs).

That may be fair enough, but it's the kind of thing you would want to contact a solicitor about. Seeing as it wouldn't be worth that hassle to them, i would think that SP would probably just cut their losses with this one as an unacceptable risk of litigation?

I already spent Friday presenting the evidence based on the Copyright Laws and used outside images as examples for the argument. Its up to them as whether or not they wish to continue.

SP appreciated what I gave them information wise but they are still waiting to see what Blizzard has to say. I have not yet gotten a response a week later so I am re-sending the original email.

If they do decline do we have a backup plan? Surely there must be other manufacturers we can approach?

I don't have a backup plan at this point because I have yet to deal with anybody but SP in regards to keycaps.

Its a gray area of operation; You have to expect this buy to take much longer now because I have to deal with the legal constraints but I also don't want to tread on any toes at SP either. Pushing Melissa's buttons is not good for anyone around here so I do not intend on being aggressive in this process. Patience is our best chance at having this completed and that is exactly how I intend on going about it.

Yeah, everyone uses SP. So in no way should we push Melissa on this issue. It's all fair. So hopefully Blizz will get back to us soon.

Not really, we seem ok. I've got 2 other manufacturers who will do them. But I would like to do things with SP of course. I think if we don't sort it out with SP in 1-2 weeks I'll go ahead doing it with one of the other manufacturers I'm talking with.

It could definitely good for us, we could possibly get the starwar ones done through them. Yes, I read each of the site quite thoroughly, they do double-shots (or two-shot. same thing different name).

Fentek has gotten back to me with a quote on 25 sets/keys. It's $4 per keycap (that makes it $28 per set + setup cost). I think this price is too expensive and I've asked if they can do a discounts if we order 50+. I'm waiting for a reply.

I've spoken to someone at Smartkeyboardsolutions. He's seen the designs and should be able to do them. Atm I'm waiting for him to send me catalog of colors + price quote.

They should get back to me tomorrow.

Im in the same boat as Dave; I really only want to work with SP on group buys. They have been good to me up until now and thats the sort of people I like to continue to do business with.

If they don't care about them using that on a T shirt on a highly publicized broadcast for a tournament sanctioned by Blizzard, they shouldn't care about this. Maybe add that to the argument RCT? That's precedent.

I can probably collect orders again and run it alongside nyancat if it can be done in a timely manner.
