Title: [IC] Polycarbonate Half-plate for TGR Jane CE [PRODUCTION FINISHED]
Post by: riotonthebay on Sun, 16 April 2017, 09:13:20
Hi all,

I'm going to have some 1.5mm polycarbonate half-plates cut for the TGR Jane CE. They'll be cut through Big Blue Saw (http://www.bigbluesaw.com/) and may require some finishing by hand once received (e.g. see Pr0ximity's 356mini plate (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=87603.msg2363976#msg2363976)). I was planning to just pay upfront for ~5 to be made, but if there's dramatically more interest than I expect, I may collect funds first. Price will be around $30 per plate plus shipping & PP fees.

Please fill out this IC form if you're interested. (https://goo.gl/forms/W88lqGy0qfjXOVSH3)

Special thanks to yuktsi for the plate drawing this was adapted from.

I've always wanted a halfplate. Nothing to use it with though.

It appears the Jane CE & Mira plates are identical, in which case this would work for the Mira as well. Hmm...

What is the purpose of a half plate?

What is the purpose of a half plate?

Certain keyboards are built such that a plate is required to build the board -- instead of being mounted into the bottom part of the case, the plate is often screwed into the top.

Plates provide rigidity which is frequently desirable with linear switches, but can be less desirable with tactile switches. Some of the nicest switches I've used were vintage PCB mounted MX browns. A polycarbonate half plate is about as close as you can get to PCB mount while still using a plate to mount the PCB.

It can also just be a different typing experience for linear switches if that's your jam and you just want to try something different.

Going to place an order for 10 of these. This will cover everyone who expressed interest, with some left over. I'll PM everyone who expressed interest in a couple of weeks with the option to buy before putting the remainder up on classifieds.

These arrived today, those who submitted the IC form have been PMed for invoicing, and all paid invoices will go out tomorrow. I'll have one or two extra plates available that I'll put up for sale in classifieds on Monday.
