Custom laser-etched glass wrist rest (V2 pictures up)
« on: Thu, 21 March 2013, 12:23:07 »
This is my first attempt at creating a glass laser etched wrist wrest for a 10keyless board. I would love to hear any thoughts, opinions or suggestions before I make version two.

The glass used for this one was a scrap piece of glass that was not really ideal, and cracked from the heat of the laser. When I try again I will give the glass time to cool before etching the entire surface.
I am going to play around and see if there is a way I can make the keys look more three dimensional in the etching and I am also going to change the etching side to the underside of the glass. Fillets will be increased ever so slightly. The rest will be elevated by another piece of un-etched glass. What do you guys think of the layout? font?  etc.

The raster image that I used as the template should be full scale.

Thanks for looking.

Ha that is pretty cool, would be crazy to make a glass case for a keyboard.

Absolutely beautiful, I really like it.

Here is mr proposed version 2 with a cherry like font, I am undecided on which of the two I should use.

I am leaning towards the orange one.

Thats quite nice :)
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

just a quick update. I have finished etching two finished boards. Just experimenting with ways to attach the lift.

I have never used a wrist rest either, but this seemed like a fun little project to do.

Here is another minor update. Should be read tomorrow or the next day.

Pictures taken with an actual potato.

Once everything is all finished and clean up Ill take some more professional pictures. I am actually using one of the screwy test ones right now, its not bad. but this one is ugly as hell lol.
