I can just see Webwit thinking 'ancient hardware and hokey layouts are no match for a good DataHand!' by now...  :D

[Disclaimer: Yes, I'm aware that Webwit uses the very same 'hokey' layout. The quote spin just wouldn't work otherwise. Bah.]

Not necessarily. That said, I wouldn't even know QWERTY were I not forced to learn to type in Middle School.

Patience, my friend. In time, he will seek you out, and when he does, you must bring him before me. He has grown strong. Only together can we turn him to the Colemak Layout.

You underestimate the power of the Colemak Layout. If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny.

I would like to learn a different layout.  Unfortunatley, I work with other PCs than my own on occasion, so I would be switching back and forth all the time.  I can't even touch type well on QWERTY let alone learn a new layout and switch.

Everything depends on how often you switch and if you can at least run some programs on other computers. For example, Portable Keyboard Layout can be run from an USB stick.

As for typing Qwerty when all else fails: I can still type using my old hunt and swarm technique. I haven't checked how fast I can go as I do have to look down the whole time, but it's still a "decent" speed.
