Horror movies are very hit or miss, and the best stuff coming out right now is the niche b movies that only people deep into horror like.

New Horror is OK at times but for the most part doesn't get me that excited.

That's dependent on taste.

Do you like gore? Suspense? Satire? Supernatural? Slashers? Monster movies? etc. etc.

Try either "The Gateway Meat" or "Melancholie der Engel" if you like fun/depraved gore effects.

The Strangers still holds up as my favorite home invasion movie and I'm hoping when the sequel finally comes out next year, they haven't totally butchered it.

Watched Midnight Meat Train last night. It was alright. Ending caught me by surprise.

Honestly I have never seen a horror film I would consider scary though.

Ever watch Black Metal Veins? Horror's subjective I guess, but that one was pretty numbing.

The Strangers is a great movie.

Some movies I have liked in the past 5-10 years or so - EVIL DEAD (the new one), The Babadook, It Follows, The 'Hatchet' Series, All of the V/H/S Movies, The House of the Devil, Clown, Burying the Ex (more comedy, but still great), Tucker & Dale vs Evil (satire / comedy), Trick 'r Treat, Martyrs (the original not the ****ty remake).

Just off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are more.

Still would consider the 2000's pretty meh for horror overall. Especially more mainstream stuff.

I don't know if I would necessarily recommend the first two to a "beginner" in the genre!

That's fair! I was just listing off a couple I've rewatched lately. Definitely a fast track down the path of 'that' side of the genre. lol

Trick 'r Treat is at the top of my Halloween movie list. Have any more details come out about the sequel, other than it existing?

I concur 100% on The Babadook and Tucker & Dale. I thoroughly enjoyed both.

Also, the new Alien movie coming out is supposed to be really scary and more horror than an alien film.

Probably not too scary for some but here are some of my favorites (not in any particular orders):

- It follows http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3235888/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
- Låt den rätte komma in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1139797/

I just watched a WatchMojo on the top 10 horror films of the 2010s, of which I haven't seen several yet:

-Oculus
-The Crazies
-Let Me In
-The Woman in Black
-Sinister (2012)
-V/H/S/2
-Insidious
-Evil Dead (2013)
-The Cabin in the Woods
-The Conjuring

Probably going to end up watching them all.

Get Out is probably the best new one in a while. It's totally daft but everybody commits to it well and seeing it a second time when you know the ending is quite fun.

I liked Bone Tomahawk quite a bit as well. Half old school western, half horror. The cast and dialogue is very entertaining.

Saw the Reanimator on Netflix for the first time lately and it's fantastic. The effects are still incredible.

Do you mean the 80's Lovecraft Reanimator? If so that's in my top 5 favorite movies of all time  :p

-V/H/S/2

I would start with these three personally.

Get Out was pure liberal propaganda.

Bone Tomahawk was a lot of fun! Probably one of the only "western-ish" films I've enjoyed.

I've lived in a house I considered pretty creepy. Very creaky in the night, and the wind would howl like old movies in the windows haha. I liked it but was kind of a wuss, and got scared all the time.

if you haven't seen the recently released Krampus (2015), I definitely recommend that. Otherwise check out Poultrygeist Night of the Chicken Dead if you want an absurd gore fest. It's a Troma film so it's by the same people who did the Toxic Avenger.

Not horror, but check out Combat Shock, best Troma film IMO.

Poultrygeist isn't really "horror" either but it certainly fondles the line a bit and has some of the best gore scenes ever put to film imo. I actually haven't seen combat shock so i'll for sure check that out

Really on the fence about Krampus

It wasn't bad, but wasn't as good as I was hoping.

The attic scene though, was LIT

I'm pretty much the exact opposite. I was fully anticipating it to be dumb af but it had a self awareness that I wasn't expecting. It reminded me a lot of Gremlins actually. The ending was meh but I mean, whatever. It's now part of my christmas movie mainstays.

LOL reminds me of those critters in the internet cafe basement in Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Not horror per se, but Voyage to Agatis might have one of the cruelest, roughest death scenes I've ever seen.

Boi I'm writing up some things now. Watched 3 movies for the thread.

Original Carrie - Somehow had not seen this movie, but it was great.

Puppet Master 2 - Just a refresh for myself. One of my favorite movies though.

I Sell the Dead - Comedy / horror type thing with all kinds of monsters. Was pretty funny and interesting.

Can't believe you hadn't seen OG Carrie, but all of these are good ones!

Curiously I watched 2 movies recently while recovering from an illness where someone was drugged to lost muscle control but still retain all senses, held down, and dismembered.

Rewatched Stage Fright, Sleepaway Camp 2, The Burning, and The Prowler this weekend. All hold up well after 25+ years  :thumb:

Caught Evil Dead 2 over the weekend, the original Evil Dead movies (Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, & Army of Darkness) are easily my most beloved horror movies of all time. If you haven't seen them yet & consider yourself a horror fan they are must watch movies. Sam Raimi at his best IMHO. The 2013 remake was alright but made a big mistake by not including the comedy the series is known for. Also the Ash vs Evil Dead series on Starz was spectacular, it made for a great throwback to the horror & comedy from ED2 & AoD. :thumb:

My favorite movie of al time is ED2! I still loved the remake though, and I loved it because of the lack of comedy. The serious turn of the movie made it great for me. imo they would have never caught the charm of the old one if they tried to re-create the comedy.
