Title: That's why I HATE Gaterons
Post by: Mikhail on Sun, 21 June 2020, 03:59:50
So far I only had Cherry and Gateron switches, and in the last I noticed that keycaps are dressed and removed very hard. This has a bad effect on keycaps and dampers in silent Gaterons.
Can you tell how things are with other Cherry-style switches?

Also, what is the true weight of Gaterons? Reds seem to me too light, and yellow is already too heavy!

According to the Novelkeys website the Gateron Reds and Yellows are 45g and 50g respectively.
Although I have Gateron Ink Blacks I haven't encountered the issue you're describing, removing keycaps seems fine.

I have blacks on one of my boards. Some of the stems hold the caps quite tight - but not too tight.

early kailh box seems to have had that same problem, the stem was too think because the original buyer (a keyboard company do not remember which) had looser keycaps so asked for larger steam, that broke SA and GMK keycaps, they retooled and i would be hard pressed to still find those sold, maybe Gateron had a similar issue. Cause yeah i have not had problems with my silent red, green or browns (all Gaterons)
