nubbinator's guide to finding and buying Clacks and Bros.
« on: Wed, 01 April 2015, 17:58:03 »
Step 1:
Don't be poor.

Step 2:
Be rich.

Step 3:
Offer lots of money for them in open, by PM, and on eBay.  If you go the PM route, make sure to PM everyone who had ever posted pictures of them, but especially seconds after they post pics.

Step 4:
Own lots of Clacks and Bros.

Step 5 (optional):
Get lucky in sales.

Hope my definitive guide helps some of you find your dream caps.

As I have learned from the wise 3love and other elders, step 4 always matters, there's no such thing as too much.  Step 5 is always optional and sometimes coincides with Step 2.

I tried skipping straight to step 4 but I still don't have any Bros and Clacks... Your tips are terrible.

That's because you're doing it wrong. The only step you're allowed to skip is 5.

An addendum to Step 3: Make sure to rePM someone over and over asking them to sell their private collections even after they tell you they aren't looking to sell. You must be aggressive, and no self respecting Clack owner will sell to the first person to ask because they are testing your tenacity and how badly you want the Clack, so no less than 3 PM should be sent.

Well I'm not poor, but I'm not rich, so I guess I'll skip right to step five. It's worked pretty well so far. You could add another option step which is watch spy as much as possible.

I'll try harder to reach step two though, but if I achieve step two I'll either be too busy perpetuating it or negating it with hookers and cocaine and caps will be a distant memory.

What if I write a script that continually PM's them until they respond with a "yes"?

It can be tough, but with my patented 5 step process, it becomes dramatically simpler.

Here's a preview of Step 1:

Quote
Step 1:
Have a life crisis.  This can be real or imagined, vague or specific, as long as it compels sympathy.  When you start your sale, always emphasize that something is happening in your life.  It could be you wrecked your motorcycle, need money for school because your parents disowned you, your special needs half niece you adopted when her mom was sent to prison and dad was killed needs money to help treat her terminal bovine cancer, and so on.  The sadder and depressing it is or the more dramatic you can make the situation appear, the better.

And always make sure to PM them asking to sell to you.  Even if you heard other people saying they bought the cap from them, don't worry, things are always negotiable and no one ever scams people over Clacks.

I'm stuck between steps 1 and 2.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Step 6
Buy a k3kc keycap

Step 7
Stick on your poker ii (stock keycaps preferred)

Step 8
Take pictures and share it to internet friends.

Step 6
Buy a k3kc keycap

Step 7
Stick on your corsair rgb (stock keycaps preferred)

Step 8
Take pictures and share it to internet friends.

I have an alternative guide:

(1) Find a blank white keycap
(3) Find a 4–8 year old
(6) Give him or her several permanent markers of various colors and the keycap
...
(10) Profit!

Instructions unclear, penis stuck in mailbox.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Well that's because you're only offering people $40 and a handy j.  You got to up your game, flash some cash and PM repeatedly.
