I failed and thus i am a failure ):
« on: Fri, 01 March 2013, 19:26:02 »
I tried for over an hour today to re set a space bar. I have never done it and i thought now was my chance. I can't work with stabilizer keys. I am so annoyed because i thought i had it but then even when i thought it was right it doesn't sound or sit right. Is it really easy to do?  :(

It's a Siig minitouch. The space key was sticking a bit so i took it off to take a look at the alp key underneath. When i went to put it back on i didn't do it right i guess. I have never done a replacement of a stabilized key. I thought now would have been a good time to try.  :(

Sometimes you have to grow a third hand, or use some sort of tool to get each little piece in just the right place at just the right time.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Thanks. I will take some. I really think nothing is broken and i do have that bar on both the stabilizers so i don't know what it is i am even doing wrong. I will take some photos though and hopefully someone can help me thru it. I looked on youtube and they all make it look so easy to replace those stabilized keys.

Costar or cherry?

If it's costar, make sure that you have the white inserts so that the long leg is facing up/to the esc key when you're looking at the top of the cap

I don't know and i don't know the difference between the two. It is an older model keyboard so i don't know if that makes a difference.

The classic SIIG MiniTouch has Alps or "Monterey" switches and the stabilizers on these are like Costar stabilizers.

I first attach the stabilizing wire onto the small white inserts. Then I make sure that the wire is on the right side when I attach the key onto the switch. When the key is mounted onto the switch I use a flat screwdriver to nudge the wire into the stabilizer mount on each side.
If something is wrong, then it is often because the small white inserts are facing the wrong way. If it is really tricky, then I often open the case so that I can better access.

I DID IT! It wasn't easy but i stuck with it and i applied a little firm but gentle pressure and the space key is now back on the way it should be. Thanks for all the advice everyone gave me!  :D

HAHA! I still don't have enough confidence to do it with other keyboards. I think this was a good keyboard to try out on because i most likely will use it as a donor board.
