[GB] DCS 9009 // GB Shipped - Update for remade kits
« on: Wed, 15 September 2021, 09:15:36 »
DCS 9009

Welcome to the GB thread for DCS 9009! Another take on an all time classic, I could not wait to get this into the hands of everyone!

Main GB Shipped
IC Here

BIG UPDATE (October 7th 2022)

As you’re all aware, I had previously announced during the group buy that all sets were being remade. Here’s why; sets were being manufactured with the Cherry typeface variant, not Gorton as I had originally intended.

Having spotted the issue before Signature Plastics had shipped out the sets, I insisted sets be remade in the Gorton fontface as I originally intended.

Customers should receive what they paid for – and thanks to all vendors involved, we were able to get this done. As far as I am aware, most, if not all GB orders have been shipped. There are still one or two vendors yet to process orders but these should be getting to you shortly. Now, for the Cherry legend sets.

These will only be available through Cannonkeys, MyKeyboard.eu and SandKeys.me. Quantities are limited. This includes both the MX and ALPS base, extensions and row 5. Relegendables are (obviously) not included. Pricing is available here (the extras will drop when the vendors are able to release them).

Kitting is identical to the original IC sets.

Please head to the CK and MKBEU discord for questions and further details, they will be happy to assist

Prices are as follows:

Vendors

CannonKeys
Prototypist
MyKeyboard.eu
Daily Clack
Hex Keyboards
Apexkeyboards
Rectangles.Store
Fancy Customs

Colors
Using stock SP colors, and compared to GMK

Kitting

Base

Cherry MX Base Kit. Full UK ISO, multiple nav column layouts, 1800 support.

Extensions

Extensions - Spaces + simple 40s

Relegendables

Row 5 Replacement

For clarity, this is how R5 SP is profiled:

ALPS kit

ALPS kit - TKL, 60, 65, full UK ISO coverage. Ergo coverage with shifts and an ISO key.

For reasoning behind no numpad in ALPS:

Quote
Given the low expectation of ALPS kit sales, its at a significantly low MOQ compared to the regular mx base.

That being said, if the alps kit does well, I will try my best to get some in stock numpad kits that can be put onto preorder. That, in the end, is each vendor's choice to support, but its something I am willing to push.

And no, it wont be charged at a premium for it being in stock, if you have purchased an ALPS base. I'll always try to support where I can  :p

Renders

Credits

Fooblitzky - a massive shoutout to this guy for making things open source. I had trouble modelling things myself, without this renders would be 110% worse.
Janglad - for being a good lad
Renderman Bachoo - amazing job helping me visualize this
Tom - for the advice with ISO kitting
Uncle - your red accented Insert is coming :D

I love this set, it looks so good. I wish there was proper support for 40s and ergo boards though. I don't want to have to spend $150 to only use a third of the keys in the set. Maybe next time. Great deal for anyone using a full size though.

excellent kitting in the MX kits, base + extensions ordered

my only nitpick is that i would have put the ISO stuff on its own since DCS tends to be a little more sensitive to extra keys in base kits than GMK stuff, but it's not a big enough deal for it to matter

I've had confirmation from one of the vendors that the ALPS set will be made if enough are bought right now, he will pick up the extras. I know compat is hard, given MOQ i had to make sacrifices that I didnt really want to.

Note my numpad quote in the main post too. In the future I am very happy to run in stock compat kits for this if its needed and there's enough demand.

Appreciate the support! Yeah, I would typically isolate all the kits, but for 9009 - I felt like one big base would be better off. I know there's compromises on 40s and whatnot but to achieve the price targets I set, I left myself with little room.

Anyhow, a solid start, I guess end of the month when numbers pick up.  :D

Try DCS at your own risk. I picked up a set of DCS Red Alert secondhand and now I have all these SA and GMK sets arriving from group buys that just sit in the box.

I know it's just one kit, but if it helps, I will pick up the alps base. I can't until the last day though (it's a payday) due to a couple other sets and keyboards dropping right now.

Keen to pick up the MX base kit! How solid is the Q1 2022 ETA? Speediness over GMK is key for me.

i wouldn't stick to it religiously, but SP is quoting lead times on DCS that are much better the lead times GMK is quoting lately. i heard from a friend recently that they were quoted 48 (!!) week lead time from GMK. the other week i was quoted i think 16 weeks on a DCS idea i have kicking around.

obviously both manufacturers are affected by the resin shortages right now, and both are subject to any number of production delays. and i often say that it's not a GB if there are no delays.

Almost yeeped in my house the minute you posted this. Guess I was stressed over nothing, wish I bought the ALPS set rather than another base.

Wow, looks like it just barely made it regardless. I would expect most shops would want extras of this particular set due to its compatibility and color, in addition to the rarity inherent to DCS Alps custom sets. Beige keycap sets are getting rarer and rarer for cherry boards these days and while back in the day you could argue to just grab an old cherry board, a lot of these sets have limited compatibility and are occasionally in poor condition. Add to that that these old boards have crept up in price and you have people like me who want to color match with beige keycaps on a custom build stuck without any options otherwise.

Last estimate given to me was in March. If there are known delays I’ll let everyone know here, but so far it seems to be smooth going.

Is the March ETA still feasible? The GB updates havent changed for a bit

I have only just received an update from SP

I was not aware, but alas, the Q2 timeline is still doable apparently. Fingers crossed its sooner rather than later.

Last update was July. When quoted it seems the shortages were not being taken into account. I too wish I had sets now

Signature Plastics ran into an issue with the 2u relegendable and told us yesterday about the issue.

They cannot make the mold as they would a typical backspace (3 stem). Instead, they will be using what is typically found in a POS board - IE, 2 switches. This will fit on your split backspaces without a problem.

To anyone who didn’t get an email..

There has been a manufacturing mistake. I spotted the issue and reported to vendors, as I intend to deliver in what was shown at the time of GB. Each vendor has taken the necessary action and been extremely helpful in sorting this out

-There was an issue during manufacturing process
-Vast majority of sets need to be remade
-Estimate is 5 weeks from now to be done
-The set is currently SP's highest priority

If I have another update, I will share it ASAP. I’m playing with the cards being dealt, I assure you everyone is doing their best to get this out as quick as we can.

Dream big. Maybe they will become a reality  ;D

Sidenote: Thank you everyone who participated, and a huge thank you to the vendors that supported this GB from the very start. As for the community - thank you, this set wouldn't exist without you all.
