Yet another Ch-ch-cheat!
« on: Mon, 18 February 2013, 02:35:58 »
Hi all,

Finally found an Allen key to pull apart my Cheat since getting my hands on it a month or two ago.

Its a full plate R/R/R with 60g blacks and a coiled PS2 connector!
Its capless in the photos below but is currently sporting the Valentines Set, which looks alright I guess but will be better with the upcoming Klaxon GB.

I had a good clean and gotten rid of all the dust I could see and took a few normal looking photos for those who want to know its construction.

Enjoy.

Certainly better than the unicorn vomit that Rayuki put that beauty through. Nice board. :)

I think this is my favorite layout of any keyboard available today.  ANSI layout, 86 keys, with 1.5x modifier keys in the bottom row, and a stepped Caps Lock key.  This is a world beater if you ask me.

That was my original draw to the Cheat, until I realized that the Phantom can accomplish the same result. :D

The board is PS/2 or USB, programmable via the AIKON client. If someone were to want to, the Phantom could be PS/2 also.

Yep. I was informed by Rayuki that the spacebar would stick sometimes but as he hits the space on the right, it was not effecting the performance/feel.

When I receieved it, the space was working fine, not once did it stick however I pressed it. But I could see the stabiliser not being in the right place, so I just picked up a credit card and effectively pushed the stabiliser into the right spot and it clicked as it went in.

Works like a charm. Plus he was nice enough to supply me with another stab wire, incase a simple solution was not possible

Thanks John,

Infrequent usage on the Cheat, a couple of hours a week. I avoid typing for prolonged periods on MX Blacks.

Just to put this out there, I hated typing on my Cheat until I added a landing pad behind the PCB to snug everything up.

I think it was two things.  One was probably that the half-plate setup had too much give.  The other is that the plate is not screwed in to the base.  That gave it a few millimeters of play in the slots that are supposed to hold it.  It could move around and didn't feel stable at all.  I put enough of a pad in there to prevent movement.

Hi! There's a name Ivn't seen in a while? How are you going mate?

Yeah I pulled it apart for the photos and gave it a good clean, although it was pretty much spotless anyway. Still has the PS2 cable, but will be getting a USB adapter from a GB on here. Its waiting the Klaxon as it is in the trusty hands of USPS for now.

So many posts on TJ's GB thread gives much inspiration to how I'd key it up but still staying slightly unique.

Yeah you might be able to see a bit of that foam on this one I have. It gives it a nice snug feel and didn't notice any movement, not that I've typed on it without the pad.
