If you have to, you can use one of those little wire twisties they use to seal the loaf of bread. I've done it... frustrating, yet effective.

Yeah, not everyone agrees on this. Or at least I have seen people say they do not agree. But I like the wire pullers much more. I have a filco one.

My favorite tool is from Harbor Freight. They are called "dental picks" and sold in a pack of 5 for like $3. The curved one that actually looks like a dental pick is the only one of any use, but it's worth the $3.

I wouldn't use them for cleaning my teeth, but for pulling keycaps, they are super fast and reliable.

Those clip-type pullers are worthless anyways. Either your caps will break, or that clip will break, so it was a blessing in disguise.

Yes those suck. They break super easy. I only had one good plastic one, it never scratched or harmed a keycap, and simply wore out instead of broke.

The little tabs that grasped the underside of the key wore off totally. It was the first not home made keypuller I had and it came free with some keycap I bought from someone long ago. I have the wire Cherry one with the switch in it now.

that thing is a potential keycaps scratcher, especially for caps with polished coating...

wire keypuller is the way to go!!!! I'm using a filco one....

I keep a wire puller on my keys, took a WASD one, cut it down with my handsaw and drilled a new hole for the keyring. Works really well when I'm on the move.

You never know when you might find a strange keyboard while out and about, and need to pull a keycap to see what type of switches it has. :D

A keycap puller on your car key chain may be odd, but not illegal. A beer bottle opener associated with car keys always seemed a bit incriminating.

For a while before I bothered getting a real puller I was using a length of string.  Bit niggly to get settled around a keycap (2 loops, on for either side just like a normal puller) but a whole lot easier than using just my fingers.

This also happened to my plastic puller. I have a few wire pullers but they feel clunky to use. I prefer the plastic pullers.
