The real tragedy is that this set abandons the best thing about the original set: it was made of lovely sphericals.

I like what you're trying to accomplish and I know you've been working this for awhile, but I really think the original set is just must more attractive.. something about the wacky color scheme just works, and that charm is lost when translated to the standard color layout of every other custom set.

Yeah, I said the same thing when it was originally proposed, tameone. But it is difficult to do tribute sets with GMK given their design restrictions. Another reason why GMK is the wrong choice, IMO.

Actually, you guys have a point.

https://strawpoll.com/157a6ecw

Depending on what the results of this poll show, I'll change the set back to SA (maxkeys ofc) or GMK.

Uniform grey F-row and arrow keys to match the source.  Also, "Back Space" on HHKB layout seems a little odd, why not just use "Delete"?

Edit: just noticed source has "Back Space" also.

SA maxkeys if you can offer the same compatibility Calm Depths had. All those extra molds are being made now so they should be available for everyone to use I presume

Feel free to take your time with this GB  :D there's too much on atm

And shouldn't the alpha colours be more like the A key in the source image, rather than the colour after they've yellowed?

Edit:  lol just realised you ran calm depths

I presume that part of the appeal of its vintage look is the yellowed keys.

Let's say this ends up being made by maxkey, would it cost as much as calm depths did?

I think calm depths absorbed some of the cost for new molds, as did Lime, but I suspect we've seen the end of $80 maxkeys sets

I'd have to ask them if I could use the old molds for this set as well.

If this is possible, you can estimate a price point of 90 USD due to the extra keys.

If not, I'm going to cheap out a little and try to go with an 80 dollar price point. :/

Probably going to stick with GMK. The poll appears to be relatively split.

Also, I think I'm going to keep the faded yellow alphas. I find them to be rather attractive.

The non-yellowed alphas on the board make it look like cream cheese and cyan.

Should I keep the all caps EXECUTE and HELP?

(also, gonna run through zfrontier. soon^tm)

I'll have to ask zFrontier to ask.

Maxkey said they didn't want to use a glossy finish on dark caps, and these caps are mostly not dark, so probably?

There's still a decent chance that we may have to stick with matte. :/

Op's previous maxkey group buy added a lot of new moulds for HHKB layout, 75%, etc. 60% should be fine

In the base kit, the colors of the RETURN and BACKSPACE keys need to be swapped. Also, it would be nice to add yellow SHIFT keys.

Base kit is large af, probably not going to add yellow shifts. Sorry!

Also, can you point out what you mean? Sorry if I'm being really thick, but I'm not seeing it.

I'm not suggesting that the yellow Shift keys should be an additional option. They should simply be the color for the Shift keys period.

If you look at the photo of the Fortune keyboard, the Return key is blue and the Backspace key is gray. In your set you have them the other way around.

I saw the kit render in the OP and if the final kit will have all of those keys, I'm fine. But are you shure Maxkey can really produce all those keys?
Anyway, if possible I'd like to add R4 1.25 units and 1.00 units with CODE legend to use instead of windows keys (but this is not essential) and I'd like a lot to have esc and enter "accent" keys in orange or light yellow (but this is my personal taste and I understand that this would take us out from the original theme....)
Thumbs up for glossy.

Yeap, sure. Your request is actually in the kit already! :) Check the last kit render. The GMK render is only left up to give a better idea of the colors.

Got some quotes.

We'd be looking at 144 for the base kit at 100 units, and 100 at 200 units.

I have two options: make MOQ (artificially 200) or roll with a 144 dollar base kit, but MOQ 100. That being said, the base kit is pretty dang comprehensive.

Which one would you guys like?

I think you should remove the 40s support, and some 'redundant' keys like multiple homing keys, multiple 1u r4 keys (go with standard, or code/hack), etc.  you could remove like 15 keys and sell a lot more sets at a reasonable price.
