New Model F 122-key Color Scheme
« on: Sun, 03 August 2014, 16:45:30 »
Well, I had to loot three Model M13's to achieve this, but it's done:

73249-0

73251-1

I realize some people would've only used black caps for the modifiers, but I really like the uniformity and cohesiveness of the shape of this color scheme.

The white on black contrast is good, but I would have kept the white \| and `~ (as you have suspected).

Also, what about alternating colours for the function key rows?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Can you give me an idea of which way you'd alternate them? For example, F1-F4 white, F5-F8 black, F9-F12 white, etc. I mean, I'd consider it. There's just a lot of variation to play with. In my earlier mockups (posted on the board) I toyed with it but never really found a combination I was happy with.

For starters I try F1-F4 and F9-F12 in white and the rest in black.  On both rows.  To replicate the original pearl/pebble layout.

Although granted with two rows of function keys it is slightly more challenging.

Exactly. I think that combo would look pretty cool with a single row, though.

Yep!

Anything else (that I can imagine) would look a bit silly.

Not busted, but I got a great deal on them, and I've got two more coming which will remain intact.

You should get a black blank to put in the middle of the arrow cluster. (or use a spare "home" key)

edit: also consider putting a trackpoint in the middle, like what sethstorm has done.

That plate is about how most F-122s come in these days, and it is not just gunk, there is corrosion there, too. I take it as a foregone conclusion that I am going to sand off the rust and re-paint it front and back.

That fake trackpoint picture had me going for a second until I blew it up. I checked and that location is directly on top of a whole ganglia of traces.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

My thinking exactly. I ordered some from Unicomp last week that'll hopefully be here tomorrow.
