This happened to me once.
I managed to yank the whole stem and keycap out.
The keycaps was stuck so tight on i need a screwdriver to separate the keycap from the stem.

Thankfully i manage to push the stem back in...

Hi Ripster,
great article. I had the same problem as above with the ESC key on my G80-3000 with blues - probably due to the fact that I removed the key caps only with a screw driver from one side. Thank god the switch still works. Just put everything back in place and good.

I was actually very easy.

I was afraid to apply too much force but with care you're not going to break anything.

On the backspace this piece:

Was a bit loose so at the same time the key went out of the stem the piece was kept on the stabilizer, so easy way to replace it in any case.

I just removed my first spacebar ^.^ I had difficulty at first because I was too gentle with it so it would not come off.

It gets easier the more caps you pull! Try wiggling when you pull, helps loosen them up.

Thanks ripster. I am opening switches. I am getting switches ready to put the first Phantom prototype together. I am sourcing brown stems and springs from a Cherry POS PCB-mounted keyboard, and switch casing from an old Wyse plate-mounted keyboard. So I have switches taken apart. I thought I should lube them before I put the switches back together. These parts are kinda old.

I will see if Home Depot has any silicone grease. Thanks.

Oh, and now that your here Ripster (I've heard so much about you!) what are the chances of repairing the key without having to solder?

The key completely doesnt respond, could i swap some parts with an unused key like the scroll lock?

Oops... I'm glad plate mounted stabilizer clips are available at wasd.
Good thing I found this guide after going caveman on my keyboard, and just yanking the keys out.

It's about to be five in the AM here, so no pictures.

Yeah I had to rebuy a stabilizer thingie too.

So I ordered my self a bunch of Orings with them xD.
