This looks great! The novelties are so cute. I love it. Seems like you've been really busy lately with the keyset designs :)). Good work :thumb:
Any chance we can get Colevrak kits?
I’m loving this set!! Just needs a couple of 1u keys for proper ortho support ;)
I’m loving this set!! Just needs a couple of 1u keys for proper ortho support ;)
What do you mean about a couple?
I could still extend the base kit… a bit.
Also, any interest for a Kobe kit?Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/UD1wpcv.png)
If by extending the base kit raises the price of the whole kit, then I would advise against it. The base kit already includes a set of novelties as of right now so I guess prices are pretty hefty already. An extra 40s/ergodox kit would make sense just for the minority few who ask for them.I’m loving this set!! Just needs a couple of 1u keys for proper ortho support ;)

That's completely fair for me :)) I think the base kit looks really neat as of now. Provides pretty much full coverage for a wide range of layout unless I'm missing something. Indeed. I think the price range should be similar to GMK Camping tho.
Maybe instead of adding legends, either include a couple more of the 1u novelties or add some 1u blanks to the spacebar kit.

No problem bud. Also the nishi legend is the catch. Removing it absolutely does not make any sense to me. Please keep it as is :p.Maybe instead of adding legends, either include a couple more of the 1u novelties or add some 1u blanks to the spacebar kit.
The more I add, the more expensive the set will be :/QuoteThat's completely fair for me :)) I think the base kit looks really neat as of now. Provides pretty much full coverage for a wide range of layout unless I'm missing something. Very nice design :thumb:

Some suggestions for your consideration. Possibly replace the legend on the enter key with "弁当",Bento in kanji.

Nice suggestion but that would require a new mold which will increase the price of the set sadly.

Wouldn’t the artisan it’s replacing already be requiring a new mold...?

Isn't he talking about changing the legend on Return/ISO Enter keycaps?!
This is very subjective. An extra $20-30 on top of the base kit is not easy to swallow for a lot of people, especially since biip already mentioned prices would be around GMK Camping which I remember to be quite high for a GMK set. There's a reason why people keep 40's and ergo as separate kit. Those who would want extra coverage can get those together with some of the blanks. I'm sure if you got no problem swallowing the extra $20-30 like you said then spending a few more for your 40's kit shouldn't be a stretch as well :thumb: Remember its not just you who has to pay for those keys, but you are asking the majority of the user base who don't own a Van to pay for your coverage.
a price difference of +/- $20-30 is easier to swallow for compatabilities sake

Wow, what’s your problem? This is an interest check, so it’s the time we give feedback to help the set along. In the same vein, why should be stomach the cost to outfit your numpad to cover a 60% board. That’s the logic you’re presenting here. And nobody mentioned a “Van”. Also, aren’t you the same person who sent me a racist pm a while back??

Personally I'd rather not pay an extra $30 just because a small group of users using a niche layout want their keys accepted in a buy that's geared towards more standard keyboards.

Because a Full Size keyboard is (generally) a more standard and ubiquitous form factor than 40%, which is uncommon, and lacks a core standard.

Because full size layout is a lot more widely used and considered standard layout more so than a 40%. Does it get old trashing on zambumon's and tomberry's thread and now biip's just so they feel the pressure that they have to bump the cost up to cover for your 40%? Are you gonna drag biip out over to Massdrop again and whine about it like what you did to Zambumon? And don't get triggered so easily dude. I'm just stating my opinion. You don't need to ask me what my problem was. Just calm the tits down yo ;)

You are drifting off track buddy. Please respect biip and keep your discussion related to the keyset on this thread. Just a friendly reminder. Sigh ;D

I’m fine here “buddy”. As this is an IC and biip wanted feedback, I simply provided some. It was nice to get ganged up on because you don’t agree with what I had to say. But that’s the way this community seems to be these days. With that said I continue to give biip my support and nothing I said was meant with any disrespect to biip. I can’t wait to see how this set flourishes.
This would look real good on the sakura kyuu
If you guys have differing opinions I invite you to discuss it by PMs. Thanks.
I totally get that you can have different points of view but please, stay calm!
That being said, I appreciate any feedback. And I thanks everyone for that :thumb:
Such kind regards over here, I appreciate :)
As I said, I wanted to make a simple kit which would only cover standard layouts (sorry to disappoint 40%, ergo and the others).
In the current state of things, the base kit is good enough (for most of the common layouts IMO), and indeed, making it more expensive for a minority won't be a smart move I think sadly. I could still consider an ergo/40 kit if there is enough interest tho.
I put the novelties in the base kit because that's what makes the set interesting IMO, and I don't want to take the risk of not reaching MOQ on a Novelties kit.

Understandable. I think what people don't get is the fact that when you choose a different layout, designers are under no constraints to support all of those layouts. It's a chance that you take. I'd love it if designers started to make numpads a separate set as I never use those. But I understand that the vast majority of possible buyers are using full keyboards. Including that might make it easy for some gateway buyers to get into the hobby. The hobby is already niche, so a niche within a niche is going to have a rough time of it.
What’s the alpha color? How “pure white” is it?
daaang i dont really like sub legends but this is beautiful.I couldn't agree more... I love these colors, but I refuse to buy any keycap set with sub legends... Needs a standard alphas set to get my buy. Sub legends should be their own sub-set IMO.
Is there room to change the novelty keys? I’ve seen a lot of disapproval of a couple of them (and some great ideas for new ones).
tonight’s top clack reinforced that as well

If one set needs Hiraganas sub-legends, that's the one IMOAgree. I'm usually not a big fan of weeb legends, but lets be real, some sets do actually look better with it. It adds a level of originality to the set if the theme is right, and I think you just did a wonderful job in that department my friend. Would love to see you keeping it. The enter novelty looks fine to me, maybe a little bit clustered, but other than that I love the symbolic approach. Very very nice work overall! :thumb:
I think you've done a great job with the novelties, so I would completely defer to you and trust your aesthetic. If you have other ideas though, would love to see 'em!
What's with the up and down arrow keys being aligned at the top of the cap and left, rather than center (like all the other blue / red keycaps)?

thoughts on icon mods?
also, little heatwaves or chopsticks for arrowkeys could be cool (:
Not really a fan of the novelties, but the rest of the set is :-* :-* :-*

Same here. I'd like if the novelties could be broken out into its own set - I don't really do novelties. But understand if not.

I actually would rather prefer to have the novelties to be included in the base kit. When I look at pretty much all those past sales, the sale numbers for novelties kit are almost always close to or on par with the base, so I think most people would get the combo of 1 base-1 novelties, and so it would naturally make sense to have those included together to drive down the price I think.

Pricing. Especially for GMK. A big kit will always be a lot cheaper than 2 smaller kits.
Icon mods as a child kit. A lot of people like the set how it is so that shouldn’t change.
I would like an option for more novelties. I love the current simplistic theme you are going with, but having more options for different rows, etc would be a welcome change. Even if it got to the point where you had to split base/novelties.
However I would still buy it as is. Great colorway. Trying to figure out what case color works best with it though. A light grey perhaps?
Excited. Any timeline biip? Is it going to be drop before the end of this year?

Noice, more time to farm some cash
I want to run it on Q1 2019, so I have time to make everything perfect. I’m actually working on deskmats, artisan keycaps and some other interesting stuff ;)
Also, Candykeys and Novelkeys confirmed to be proxies.
I’m waiting the quote from GMK but they already told me that Q1 2019 sounds good (leadtime 12-14 weeks after order).
Cherry icons (icons only) as a seperate kit. Like Gmk burgundy r2. Do understand cost will be on the high side. It’s just an idea.
Would like dailyclack to proxy for Australia if possible

do you think you’ll be working towards early Q1 or late Q1?
early Q1 (january-feb) would be perfect :3
and in terms of artisans, do you mean rama caps? Or specific, limited run color ways of popular artisans

Early Q1!
Rama keycap(s?) renders coming this week ;)
And even more soon
Time to save up for this set... I hope the blue will have that grayish tealish tint from the renders.
Don't forget us Aussies. We're all in for some Pastel GMK Bento!
Happy to offer Daily Clack's services to proxy this

I’ll get as much samples as needed for that don’t worry!
It wasn’t easy to find the same Pantone correspondence, but I’m confident, we can still tweak the color.Don't forget us Aussies. We're all in for some Pastel GMK Bento!

I’ll try to make it happen!
I just got the first renders for the biip x Rama keycap project for Bentō!Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/tGcrYQT.png)
Salmon red anodized aluminium with white enamel fill.
The icons are still in WIP phase at this moment! I might change it if ever I don't want to have the same icon which is already included in the base kit.
Let me know what do you think of them :)

I think the two different thicknesses might be weird, especially on the thinner one.
Have you thought of doing two with the japanese characters for bento?
Color looks great though!
Maybe some blue ones would also be cool

Will the Rama Keycaps be sold around the same time as when the set is in GB?
Will the Rama Keycaps be sold around the same time as when the set is in GB?
Good question. I’ll ask as soon as I receive pricing.
Thoughts about the fact that it could be on the same timeline as the GB?

Well, have to admit that the Return novelty is kinda busy, i will definitively rework it.
However, I did not receive may bad reviews about the novelties (with like more than 300 responses on the poll), so I'm actually a bit surprised.
On the other ones, I could try to actually make meals (like sashimis, makis, and stuff) but I really liked the fact of having something simple, abstract, and geometrical. I didn't want to fall into that cliché of making a bowl of rice, a sushi, a Japanese flag or whatever. I think that the novelties are currently matching to each other pretty well.
Let me know what do you think about em. I can totally rework the novelties!
I still have some leftovers novelties I didn't use for this set ;)

I kinda like it being on the same timeline - you get caught up in a set and I find myself more likely to buy "luxury extras" (like the Rama keycaps) when I'm buying the base kit and less likely to come back to a set at a later date and invest more in it (with some exceptions of course).
I like the right Rama keycap (the thicker one), and the thinner one a little less so. As you and others have commented, I think they should try and be the same thickness. As for the second novelty...hmm... I rather like the idea of something food related rather than a Japanese character personally. Is there perhaps some sort of Miso soup icon?
The spacebar kit looks to be missing 1u caps.
really looking forward to seeing a sample - i really hope the colors stay relatively subdued/muted and dont become like a captain america red/white/blue! :D
As a person who can never remember rows and key sizes, thank you for adding those into the pictures lol
Well, I for one have a Planck with the grid layout as my main driver. If you plan to support the Planck, 1u spacebars are important IMO.The spacebar kit looks to be missing 1u caps.
For what kind of layout would you need one?

Very excited for this!
One small thing, is it a typo that the novelty enters are labeled as R4 in the renders?
(Solely out of curiosity),
I noticed that this uses a different ramen novelty from GMK laser, and I’m curious to know if other designers can use pre-existing molds for keys... like does MiTo own the tooling for the ramen mold? Or do you just wanna use your own? (Or is the price that it costs for new a mold insignificant?)
Quick update.Just run it in December already. I am getting very impatient hmmmm 😒😒
Proxies list:
* US: Novelkeys
* EU: Candykeys
* ASIA: zFrontier
* AUS: DailyClack
GB date: TBD, Q1 2019.
Absolutely in for the Kobe kit!I’m loving this set!! Just needs a couple of 1u keys for proper ortho support ;)
What do you mean by a couple?
I could still extend the base kit… a bit.

Then you would need others 1u modifiers. I did not plan to cover ortho layouts anyway. Sorry!

Can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am about that. Was really looking forward to this set. Oh well. Good luck anyway!

In that case you really have to get creative (and perhaps mix row profiles) which isn't too bad. Alright, as you can see, the compatibility for 40% is just… not good… Even with these 2 blanks for the spacebar.
If there is enough interest I could make a 40 kit which would include 1u shift, Enter, Tab, Lower, Raise, etc.
But if I do so, people with staggered 40 will ask about special Shifts and Enters too I guess. I'll think about it.
Also, in order to Cover HHKB (real) layout, what about adding 2x 1.5u Code in the base kit?
So it's: Alt - Code(Cmd) - Space - Code (Cmd) - Alt

Something that I was looking at after my initial survey, would it be possible to get 2 of each of the 1u novelties for R4? I like using novelties in my R4 and like it to be symmetrical. :)

I'm trying out to figure why I didn't do that tbh lol. Since 1.25u and 1.5u are in pairs.
I should fix that asap. Thanks for noticing it!

So it is just going to be the one kit, right? Any idea on tentative pricing?
Like this set a lot, but still no appearance of a 1.25u key on R3 ;(
For 40% keyboards like minivan :D
Please just include it in the base ket if possible :thumb:

Sadly, I don't think that I would make a 40% kit. I said that I wanted to keep it simple, sorry :(
Adding one or two 1u won't change anything tho, for a 40% support, it needs a dedicated kit, that's all.
If I do something, I do it "properly", I don't want to see this set without 40% compatibility on 40% board.
when will the gb for this cutest keyset of 2018 happen? ^-^
So I know I'm late to the party but these are definitely getting made right?
Did you say Novelkeys will be the place to buy them for U.S. residents? Will there be a pre-order or just buy when you can? Will you be doing a Massdrop?
Estimated pricing for the first MOQ(250):
* base 145€ / $160
* space 23€ / $28
* kobe 70€ / $75when will the gb for this cutest keyset of 2018 happen? ^-^
Q1 2019. I’ll try to make it happen during end of January or early February! So I know I'm late to the party but these are definitely getting made right?

It won’t be through MD. Novelkeys will be the US proxy indeed.
It’ll be a group buy, that’s like a pre-order :)
Then the manufacturer will have m like 12-14 weeks of lead time.

There’s no stopping me from joining this group buy. I know I said this already but please make the colours right. I love this too much to see it fail :(
Hey guys, quick update!
During the GB we will offer, as I promised, Bentō related stuff:
Nano Bentō (work in progress, that's just a mockup)
keebwerk (http://www.keebwerk.com) will offer a Nano Bentō with unique colors and exclusive novelties (which has to be decided) :DShow Image(https://i.imgur.com/FOnJrCh.png)
Rama Keycaps
Rama will offer 2 keycaps, one anodized aluminum with white enamel fill keycap, and a gold brass one.
Deskmat(s)
incoming
Base kit trail design
incoming
Sleeves
I'm actually checking if I could also offer custom sleeves… It'll have the same design as the deskmats()
Late to the party but I dig this theme! Is it possible to have it without the japanese words?
Totally agree. I am personally not a big fan of weeb legends, but I do agree, for some particular sets, hiragana sublegends just fit the overall theme so well. This and samurai are very good example.Late to the party but I dig this theme! Is it possible to have it without the japanese words?
Sadly, since the Minimum Order Quantity will be 250, due to custom colors, I didn't think that offering regular and Hiragana alphas would have been a smart move.
That's why I 'only' chose one. Furthermore, Hiragana alphas are obviously the better choice to me because of the theme; it fits the aesthetic very well IMO.
hey biip!
I'm super excited for this set, will definitely be picking it up!
I'm wondering if we could get the the ramen bowl novelty cap as one of the RAMA aluminum caps w/ enamel inlay?
I think it'd be wonderfully stylized with the set, and mech enthusiasts are certainly lacking in cool ramen caps.
much love! <3
hey fellows!Oof! The deskmat pattern matches my pen wrap! I have to get those!
with the GB coming on end January, I had to hurry up if I wanted to get some deskmats to offer during the same period of time, since I'll need to get samples to ensure that colour and design are accurate :thumb:
I'll probably offer 2 different deskmats (900x400mm).
So here are the different versions:

I like the plain one, but it looks quite jarring with the bento icons straight on top. I would try incorporating that salmon color into the actual wave design, or maybe by putting some Japanese text in that color on top of it, engraved kind of how you did the logo in the bottom right.
I think that logo on the bottom right could be enlarged and center with the wave design, since I think the Japanese with bento icons on top also looks kind of strange. I like how the japanese in the bottom right has an outline too it, it blends really nicely unlike the last two imo.
Maybe a design with just various bento box shapes really small could be cool as well.

Pattern only is also my favorite. But the bigger question is, is there a chance you'd offer these in 320x400? I have a small desk, and 900x400 over covers my work area.

This is my dilemma as well, I love a lot of the desk mat designs that have been coming into popularity but they’re all far too large for the space I have.
That said, the pattern only is definitely my favorite. I just wish there was a little more of the salmon tone present in it.

For the mat, the basic pattern one is my favourite style.
The idea to add some salmon colour into it in either some accents or on the text, I also like.
Also, after seeing the Torii gate novelty on the nano bento teaser image, I want that novelty in the main set!
It looks great and is probably the nicest novelty I've seen for the set.
I don't want to have to grab a different product to be able to get it...
I’m pretty sure it’s exclusive to the nano slider.
Sadly the shrine/Torii won't be available in the GMK set.
I wanted to only have bento boxes as novelties. The Ramen makes sense since it's in the same "registry" (food), that's why I kept it.
I hope you will understand :)
I'm still working on the extra set for the macro pad, and there will be 2 new novelties (including the Torii).
Also, for the deskmat, I might offer a 450x400mm version too if there is enough interest.

Are you still going to offer the blue deskmats, personally prefer those over the full salmon
Oof could you please reconsider about offering the mat in smaller size? 900x400 is really too big for me. I remember camping also had one in smaller size and it was sold quite well as well!
That's perfect. Thanks!
We were thinking about 450x400mm.
Hoping for pattern-only blue deskmat, definitely matches the set well and has a nice minimalistic look.
If you haven't decided on deskmats yet, I think a blue one, with a small amount of salmon accents would look nice.
The salmon mats are very nice!

I might be an idiot and missing this completely but have you released the pantones for this?
I’m thinking of cerakoting a board for this
When/Where will the RAMA caps be sold? And what is usual lead time for RAMA caps?
Is the beige base color any close to L9? Not familiar with RAL colors.
Are there advantages to using RAL? What are the differences and why would someone use one over the other ?:)
what is usual lead time for RAMA caps?
Sweet sweet tray design :D
Is 160 the final price?
Trail is as Nice as the set !
Have you found time to shoot pictures of the samples ?

It's more warm, like a rose cream I'd say.
Hey, planning on buying the nano bento as well but was wondering what is the use of the slider ?
anything you want.
I suggest you ask the designer of the slider that, not the designer of the keyset
and keebwerk’s website answers your question

Oh, I was asking to anyone who can answer me, not just Biip. I know he didn't design the nano.
I checked already their Website and couldn't find any information ? Do you have a link please ?
Thanks !

And Biip, do you know the guys at keebwerk ? Checked their insta and they don't seem to have ever released anything. They do a lot of renders but that's about it.

Dimo gave good answers.
You can use the slider of the Nano for whatever you want (volume, brightness or any slider in Lightroom for example). The regular keys are for macro.
Yeah, I even already met him! He received prototypes but I don't know when he will send the final products to the people who bought one when the website was released yet.

Idk if this was mentioned but are both or one Rama cap is being offered?
Ahh!! 10 days left :D
Idk if this was mentioned but are both or one Rama cap is being offered?
why is the kobe kit so expensive? I've seen the burgundy alphas sold for 28 eur, on some sites (with aftermarket pricing). Considering the cost per keycap, I don't understand the price difference.I think it has to do with Bentō using custom colors and Burgundy using standard GMK colors.
Is it possible to get a render against something like pristine? Or some color swatch? Some of the renders look more white while others have a little pink hue in my eyes, so I'm having trouble figuring out what to expect.

This looks really good, seems like you did a really great job with this biip. Best of luck with the group buy.
The mats looks gorgeous! I'll definitely buy at least one of those.
Monday can't come soon enough :)
Are the Rama artisans confirmed / finalized? I may be interested in those.

Super excited for this set with the rama artisans- the rama caps are gonna be dead sexy in the volcano 660
Any limit to the RAMA keycaps?

Woo! Just ordered my first set of keycaps from a group buy! The deskmats weren't there. Are they going to be available separately?
Yup, that's the most I've ever spent on keycaps. Praying that this isn't another GMK Necro, cause this set is gorgeous!
So excited to see this open! GL with GB, and thanks again for such an awesome set, biip!

I already chose RAL colors (IRL) in order to make the color matching easier for GMK. I should get samples very soon, but I super confident.
I rather delay the shipping and have perfect colors than hurry :thumb:

Nice you thought of everything!
PS Nano slider has shown up on the keebwerk page: https://www.keebwerk.com/nano-bento/
Looks like preorder is only available on candykeys as of now: https://candykeys.com/product/keebwerk-nano-bento
Nano seems to be a fair price considering everything that goes into it. Might have to skip it though if it doesn't match my volcano... I think the volcano will be a darker bluish-gray, we'll see
I'm in! We should hit MOQ no problem, this set is sick!
