When it comes to soldering what type of solder is recommended? Also what wattage iron?!

Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
Is it important to have temp control or would I be fine with just say a 20 watt solder pencil

Update for Int'l orders (excluding USA). Please read.

Welp, I really tried my best. :( But I didn't get through shipping all the Canada Post Int'l orders before the Canada Post strike that's happening July 2nd. ~25 Int'l orders were dropped off at Canada Post today, those should still go out and leave Canada before July 1st (national holiday). Quick review shows ~20 or so currently affected orders that will be delayed due to the strike. If you had chosen the $10-12 shipping option via "Canada Post Int'l 6-10 business days" and would like to arrange for DHL shipping instead, please contact me via email or PM with your order #.

Items being shipped via DHL will still continue, should be able to wrap up all the orders by the end of the week. Currently bagging/boxing orders in the 40xx range.

For those curious, Zealio preorders were in the 35xx-42xx range.

I'm 4091 so looks like should be soon then. Still showing unfulfilled.

Better get my soldering iron out and desolder this board.

Do all orders get a shipping notification or only DHL orders. I don't think I will upgrade to the more expensive shipping anyways tough because my board won't get here for at least another month (zz96) so no hurry for my zealios to show up :)

Every order that's done packing will get a shipping notification once the label is printed. Of course, due to the strike, I won't be printing a label for these select orders until Canada Post has confirmed that the strike has ended.

Finished shipping everything today. Everything shipped in under a week. Feelsgood.jpg.

Will be keeping an eye on Canada post strike situation. Once it's over, I'll print the labels for the remaining 22x orders and have those dropped off at my post office ASAP. Thanks for tuning in guys.

Also ordered V3 lube for tactile switches. Can be used for both springs and stems, correct?

Anyone in Europe got theirs yet? Curious to see how quick Canada Post shipping is vs. shipping from Asia (which is extremely quick in my experience, often less than a week).

I was pumping out pretty much 100-150x boxes a day... Everyday looked like this for DHL when my driver came to pickup.

Thanks for participating in all 3 rounds (I believe?) :) Good to hear there weren't any delays with the new Canada Post Int'l labels...They just recently redesigned it mid-June and the font chosen for addresses were smaller than previous, and weren't as thermal printer friendly (thickness issues with legends).

Yes, use the thick lube for the switch bottom, spring, and stem. Lube in that order.

Depends on country. I've had a customer in Germany report 4 day delivery from Canada, but it probably just boarded the plane at the right time. :P Int'l items generally take 6-10 business days, but can take a bit longer depending on your postal service. Longest would probably take a month.

Shopify, Paypal, DHL notification + DHL delivery text :)) DHL Express is great, love the overnight shipments from Can->USA and vice versa.

Interested in getting a pair of zealios 78g, or cherry mx clears to put on the red scarf from mass drop. Did R3 fix the SA keycap issues (wobble)? I am very interested in purchasing them, however, if I am about to spend $300 on a keyboard, I'd prefer not limiting myself on which keycaps I can put on. This will likely be my first (and hopefully) last keyboard.

Thanks for the input.

Don't think that specific issue has been addressed yet, but I am also not sure how severe it is. I did read some people having that problem with on /r/MK with R2 zealios and R3 are the same and I swear that I saw zeal saying that it is something he is working on for R4.

Really? I always have good service from DHL. Here in Norway it's generally known that FedEx is a joke, UPS is OK, and DHL is just now becoming a thing.

It's almost the opposite here in the US.  Domestic DHL is garbage.  US Postal Service is maybe one step up.  UPS is 50/50 depending on your region and your proximity to one of their major hubs.  FedEx is premium and their prices reflect it.

It seems international DHL is a different level of service than we usually get from them.  I have never have a package arrive less than 18 hours from when it shipped unless it was coming from the next town over.  :P  I know DHL is considered much better in other parts of the world.

Like data said, DHL is terrible for me in the South (Mississippi).  USPS is hit or miss but lately I've had really good service from them.  USPS used to always be 1-3 days later than their estimated ship date, now it's almost always on time or just a day late.  UPS almost always delivers my amazon Prime packages, which are always on time (2 days).  I think amazon really cracks the whip on their prime shippers, though, because they guarantee ship dates.

I know the local FedEx isn't really FedEx, but just do jobs for them, while DHL is actually a separate company with their own drivers and vans. That makes a difference.

Not too sure which order yours is, but from what I know, DHL USA doesn't delivery on Sat/Sun :P But then again, it was Canada day on Friday, so my last batch of shipments was Thursday, which meant most USA shipments should've been delivered on Friday, unless your address was a remote area which required a forwarded delivery.

DHL Express =/= DHL eCommerce which is what Massdrop uses...Whole different division and warehouse/drivers/planes etc.

Thanks for your hard work getting the switches sent so quickly Zeal. Got my 62g switches yesterday so it only took 5 working days, pretty much what I'd expect for a domestic shipment lol. They're definitely better than any Cherry switches I've tried, but I do wish I did more research before ordering. 62g is pretty light, especially for the spacebar, so I should've really gotten the 78g versions instead.

Just to chime in on the DHL discussion... I'm also from Norway, but I have a completely different impression of them. The Web is chock-full of horror stories about people getting ridiculous, unexplainable fees from them, which usually end up being 'errors' if you call them (but no knowing how many people just pay them). It's also a pain in the ass that they won't deliver to the post office, and instead call you for directions so they can deliver at your home/work, which is really a weird arrangement considering Norway is one of the countries with the lowest population density in the world.

So just to add perspective to any newbies who aren't smoldering masters and worries about deforming the clear switches and chattering etc.

I did my whole board yesterday and had no problem soldering any switches and have zero chattering.

Used a hot iron at about 375 and each point took about a second. Simple stuff.

They are nice quality, definitely feel different from any other gat or cherry, the drop-off Is so pronounced it's closer to topre (67s). 78s on the big keys.

Zeal, how about SMD LED compatible Zealios? I know Zealios are already transparent, but with SMD cutout at the bottom, it will allow them to be mounted flush with the PCB. I also think they will still be compatible with regular through-the-hole LEDs. So no need to have 2 versions of Zealios to accomodate both types of LEDS.

Oh, and how about that clicky Zealio you mentioned several months back?

SMD compatible bottoms are not required for my upcoming RGB LED PCB. Trust me, there won't be any clearance issues. :)

Clicky Zealios are still on my mind, and am still pushing and hoping it'll be made one day.

Is there an information post about that anywhere? Is that one of the new products on the august time table?

No information is publicly revealed as of yet. Will release prototype pictures before the end of the month. :)

So, has the chatter issue that affected some of R1 been completely fixed? Reason I'm asking is I've got a sneaking feeling some of my switches are chattering, but it's been bloody hard to test as I can literally write for hours before it happens, but sometimes I get two 'a's or a double space when  it feels like I shouldn't have. I'm not 100% sure though, since it happens so rarely and I'm not all that precise of a typist anyhow.

I've been testing using the Elitekeyboard Switch Hitter tool, but it's pretty weird. Having the chatter threshold between 8 and 30 ms, it takes literally thousands of key presses before I get a possible chatter detection (my fingers hurt atm from spamming single keys lol). However, if I press my palms over big parts of the keyboard and press repeatedly, I get way more detections (spread over many keys, which I can't reproduce later most of the time, and I also get these sorts of detections on my trusty Topre board, which I understand don't suffer from chattering issues at all, albeit to a lesser degree). I've been trying two Phantom firmware versions, which are all 6KRO.

This was my first time soldering, and I used a cheapo, non-adjustable Ersa 230V/30W iron with a temp of 380C. I'm sure I didn't do a very good job, but I thought I was pretty quick on the switches near the end, and the ones I'm most suspicious of (A and space) are among the cleanest jobs I did, probably only spending 3-5 sec on them. In comparison I spent a ton of time on the Caps switch (easily 50-100 times more time in contact with iron than the other switches) with some sloppy desoldering, and that one has no chatter at all. I can provide some pictures if necessary.

I assume if the Zealio chatter issue is a thing of the past, then Strict's fix doesn't apply to my situation. Any idea what my next step should be?
