Welcome to FOX -orange the  Group Buy!

Buyers' photos

Update on Aug 31th, 2017

Hi all,

Senter here. All packages have been send out and some people have already received their boards.

This is the first time we host a group buy for keyboards on Geekhack. 40 kits were sold to 37 customers. Thank you all for joining this GB. Thank you for putting your trust on an inexperienced team. I hope you will like the keyboard.

There are some experiences I'd like to share with you.
  • First, we didn't design the google form very reasonable and as a result it took me a lot of time to communicate with some of you to confirm the information.
  • Second, I didn't think over about the options. As a result, there were too many options to make. Three layouts and with/without nameplates, that's 6 types of cases for just 40 kits. We also offered too many color options which seriously increased our and the factory's workload. You know it's much more expensive to make 40 different cases than 40 same cases. I negotiated with the factory many times to make it happen.
  • I learnt a lot about your demands. As many people suggested, we changed the design of the seam in the middle of two pieces, changed the suitcase, added another option for the plate, and so on.
  • There are also some requests we didn't make true, like ALPS plate/pcb, split backspace.

I really learnt a lot from this group buy. I believe we can do better the next time.

There're also several things we didn't make perfect.
  • We didn't print numbers on the nameplate of founder editions. They were printed Orange in place. We didn't make it right because the technician was tired with the tons of options of small order.
  • For 2 or 3 plates we didn't make the color right. The fault is on our side that the packing people told me that after the packages were send out.
  • It took us 10 days to examine all the 40 boards. We checked the packages carefully but I'm still not 100 percent sure all the boards are perfect.

If you find the kits have any problems you can't accept, the ones I mentioned or not, please feel free to contact me.

I won't call our first GB is a successful one since there are some known problems. I'm really sorry to those whom were affected. I promise I did my best to make everything right but I failed.

Thank you again for joining our first GB. We will make it better the next time.

Regards,
Senter

Update on July 16th, 2017

GB is no longer accepting orders. We will send out all the invoices and organize the orders in the following days.

After we accept all the payments or after July 25th, we will start manufacturing and sourcing the keyboard parts.

Thank you for your support!

Update on July 11th, 2017

New photos were updated here

Please check the information or your order here and reply to me if there's any thing
wrong with your order. You can still change the information before GB is closed.

We're sending out invoices to you. There will be an additional invoice if you selected the
assembly service. You can still change the colors and other options after you paid the
invoice, so please feel free to pay. We will start making the cases according to the order
of payment, but you can pay the invoice as late as July 25th.

Update on July 7th, 2017

New photos were updated here

Update on July 4th, 2017

New renders updated here

Renders are not real photos. These can only help you to image how the final keyboards will look like.

New photos with keycaps on the keyboard will be updated later!

Update on July 3rd, 2017

  • We will also offer MX openable cutout plate! The normal MX cutout plate is still the default option. If you need the plate supports switchtop remove, please leave a message at the end of the form when you fill in it.
  • There was a small gap between the top and bottom cases. As many of you requested, we decide to remove the gap and make the keyboard has a cleaner look. Please PM me if you have already filled in the form but don't like this change.

We are coming!

I named it Orange because the inspiration comes from oranges.
I provide the thinner design and high quality material.
They make the keyboard out of the ordinary. Wish you will like it.

The GB order form doesnt have a place to input the custom text for the name plate

Also, which color is the one shown in the pictures? (as well as the color of the plate)

Edit: I just ordered the silver with golden plate, i hope that's the one in the pictures :)

Thank you! also I just realized there was no option for aluminum vs brass weight, perhaps it's supposed to be in the position of "option 3"

Really interested in joining, but I have some questions about the GB form.
  • For the Small Blocks layout, is it the same as this one (one 6.25u + six 1.25u)? http://i.imgur.com/IfHp2Ue.jpg
  • The nameplate color is a mandatory field. If I don't want a nameplate, will it just be ignored?
  • The weight color field, is that for only the aluminum weight, or does it also include brass?
Thanks!

I love the soft edges.  It's a nice change of pace. The scene in China is really packing a punch lately...

Question: Can we order more than one name plate?  I would like one personal and one more adaptable for the masses in case I ever decide to sell/trade in the future.

I heard about the X60 tragedy and I understand your concerns. The difference is our close partner own the factory by himself, so we have more control on the quality. We will also take photos/videos before shipping them out. Hope this alleviate your concerns.

Yes. There's a 'Do you need extra parts' question in the form. You can write down what you need and the details there.

Could you please make it so the plate supports switch top removal? Doesn't seem to be the case in the pictures and that comes close to being a deal breaker for me :(

Also, I would love to see a picture of this board with caps on it ;)

Yes, we discussed about the switch top removal plate and we decide to offer this option as well. Please leave a message about the plate type at the end of the form when you fill in the form.

We will update the photos in one day or so. The prototypes were send out to our distributors in China for reviewing. I can take more photos after we got the prototypes. BTW, all our distributors highly praised the quality of our keyboard!

There will be rubber mount in the bottom which will pump it only a little bit.

I will update the shipping price for Asia later. You can expect it lower than shipping to US.

It's really very bright. Only the white color is not anodized, it's made by another technique.

I hate to be "that guy", but my favorite thing about this keyboard was the slim profile and the small gap between the top and the bottom.  That gap made it perfect and really unique  :(

Hey man, I totally understand your felling. We designed that gap at first because I like it. However most people prefer the case without the gap. It was a hard decision that we removed it.

The case still looks beautiful without the gap, in another way though.

Hello,

My first post in GeekHack actually! I'm really interested in ordering this board, it's so beautiful. I am still deciding which color I should choose. I have a question about the assembly option. I see you answered another poster's question about soldering the switches and installing stabilizers. My question is: must buyer provide the switches, or some stock will be provided? What switches will be available?

And a question about switch top removal option, this will allow me to change the switches installed in my board without desoldering?

Thanks so much.

We can provide normal switches like Gateron or Cherry MX switches. Which type do you want to use? You can PM me for details.

For switch top removable option, check the information here: http://builder-docs.swillkb.com/features/#switch-type

You will also need some tools like this: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1363

Those pics of the ice on the case look cool and scary at the same time.

I wouldnt want water on my board.

How white will the anodized white look? Is it a greyish white?

Are there any comparison photos?

I know you're in group buy stage for this buy now, but still worth asking... Would you ever offer a angled board with normal winkeyless bottom row?

Good luck with the buy.

Yes, angled board is what many other people asked and it's very likely we will make angled boards the next time, but that's just one simple feature.

Right now, we're considering what's next to make. We prefer to make something new that no one did before, including new materials, new features, new layouts, new concepts, and anything will make people say WOW!

Is there a way to check my order before I pay my invoice?

We will release the order info in one day or two.

Sounds good, will pay invoice once I double check (and also go through any last minute reconsidering of options).

This is done already? What the heck? Well done, Senter.

I saw in the QQ that he stayed in the anodization factory for 5 days to make sure everything went well.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of this board's look, I'll probably try and get in on one of your future projects (should shipping go as well as the rest of this buy, of course).

It might be the from us, unless it's one of the left 10 packages or so waiting for shipping.

All other packages have been shipped.

We're checking the quality carefully so the shipping is slow, but we started the shipping from last weekend and it's almost finished.

Yes, GB closed in mid July.

Two weeks for purchasing materials and preparing everything.

One week for CNC.

One week for anodizing.

10 days or so for QC and sorting.

May be we can do it faster the next time by optimizing the schedule.

Yes, we got a lot of ideas about our next project. Some are already in the proofing phase.

We don't know which design you will like most though.

Please keep your eyes on our updates if you're interested.

Through up an interest check with different options (like the revo guys). I think they had to many options to chose from though. Any teasers? 60%, 75% other?

Lovely case design :thumb:

Not only does it look pretty, but it is 1) THIN and 2) FLAT. Cases should be thin and flat by default. You can always add height and tilt after the fact, but you can't take them away when they are built-in. Designers, take note!

oh maama jamma, this thing is beautiful! I've been checking for the DHL guy all day and he finally arrived.  Only had about 5 minutes to fondle it before I had to put it away and get back to work. It is crazy solid, the seams line up nicely and the weights look great. I'm not sure how I feel about the black fasteners, but those are easily changed. They look like 15-20mm m3 bolts.

My board doesn't have a nameplate as requested, but I kinda like the clean look. (support email already sent, hopefully we can get it worked out quickly). This thing will look amazing when finally built.

Love the postmortem, even if I didn't join this GB, it's great to see people taking group buys seriously. I don't think you failed at all (referencing something said in the postmortem). Acknowledging mistakes and learning from them is not a failure, it's growth.

I'll most likely join the next one after seeing how this turned out and how you handled it. =)

I couldn't agree more. I was one of the ones to receive a wrong plate and within a couple hours of contacting Senter, he got in contact with the factory and set up a new anodizing run. Certainly establishing a good rapport with the community it seems.

Received mine yesterday, and let me tell you...The case is amazing---the included carrying suitcase is the cherry on top -- The gf is ecstatic ~ The "luxury" gold color really did come out quite nice -- photos in the near future -- would participate in future buys for sure! Thanks again.  :thumb:

I'm jealous of how smooth and fast this GB went, great looking board.

Me too! I had this ready to check out but then at the last second had second thoughts. I'm now wishing I hadn't listened to my doubts.

Thank you for the kind words. There were many unexpected matters. I just hope we can make every one satisfied eventually for this GB.

right = "red" ACE-XT40
bottom = "orange-blue" Revo Dr.D
i dont know about fox is this rose gold or orange?

but overall this GB was really really fast,  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: ! cant wait for your next GB senter

Yes, that's our orange color. Seeing the orange color on your Revo Dr.D, I just realized that '橙' and '橘' in Chinese can all be translated to 'orange' color in English, while one is more like yellow and another is more like red. Revo's orange is the later one, and our's is the yellow-like orange.

There's some color distortion on our color samples. That's another problem we'll improve in the next GB.

Thank you for your support and feedbacks.

Anyone want to trade their white one for my luxury gold one? With the E8-V1 GB collapsing I'm in need of a white board again. :(

Hey mnm, that's terrible mistakes. Your order should be the one of the three orders they told me was wrong, but I didn't expect the top case is wrong as well!

You chose 'WK' case at first then changed it to 'small blocks'. I do changed the information in our spreadsheet, but my partner still shipped 'WK' case to you.

We had several leftover plates but now they were all send out. I wish I can help but now we have very limited parts left. Please send me an email. Let's see what we can do now.

My first build, keys are not really straight, had a hard time with the stabilisers but am pretty happy with it.

Finally got around to building this, really love the retro look it has, especially with SA profile...

The keyboard is great quality, heavy and the white pottery finish is lovely, though it does mark easily. My only small regret was to get the nametag etched with initials which looks a tad cheesey, or at least not really my style :-[

Great group buy, efficient and very well run :thumb:

So I'm having trouble with some fitment issues - did anyone else have an issue where the bottom of the case would push the PCB up, forcing the switches out of the plate?

Not quite, but I did have issues with the through hole leads touching the bottom of the case and shorting. I ended up clipping every lead (LED and switches) and putting a layer of styrofoam between the PCB and bottom case.

I have that issue also. :(

Also some issues with chattering on pretty much every key when pressing keys rapidly.

Also my |\ LED not working.

Also an earlier issue with plate fitment on my LWinkey that forced me to switch layouts.

Pretty frustrating build so far.

I did not have any chattering issue, LED issue, or plate fitting issue.

But that was build 1 out of 2. Hopefully the second build doesn't run into any issues besides the lack of clearance under the PCB.

I'm seeing the same issue. This makes holtites pretty much unusable for me, unfortunately. Unless I just want to line the bottom of the case with electrical tape.

Dell At101, Wang caps are not standard ansi. The right side modifiers are .25u longer than standard. Compensate much

Most known issues are caused by the shorting. I've mentioned this problem in a previous email to you guy.

This problem can be easily fixed by covering either the PCB or the bottom case by any kinds of tapes.

No extras, sorry mate.

I've got a lot of messages asking for a Orange R2. However making the same boards without innovations is the last thing I'm interested to do.

The good news is that we do plan to run a GB for Orange, but in 75% layout and with many improvements.
