IBM by Lexmark Model M "Clicky" Mechanical Keyboard AT Connector 1398601 1991

The only Model M Lexmark produced under their own name. It wasn't long ago that Brandon at Clicky Keyboards was saying, "We have not seen this keyboard in any other keyboard collection." They've turned up now and then since, but they're never a common sight.

As I post this, the seller has 9 available, and they look extra-clean. They have the big IBM-style label, too, rather than Lexmark's later wimpy, afterthought-looking one.

It's wacky when you think about it: In 1991, Lexmark—IBM's former MK division, which had become sold off as a private company—was still making Model M's for IBM, and at the same time, making Model M clones (they even say "Model M") and selling them under their own name. I wonder if they even asked IBM for permission, or at least gave them a heads-up?

All gone now.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

This was definitely a great deal. I already had two of these but these ones were older judging by the listings pictures.
