Atmega32U4/Teensy Alternative for Hand Wiring?

32kb is very limiting, I wonder whether there's a better alternative out there that's as easy to program with TMK or secondarily QMK

There's some old threads over the web that says no

The Teensy 2.0++ (AT90USB1286) works, it's usually reserved for big boards as it has more pins but has more storage too.
