I hope Matias won't mind me posting this here - it is certainly not to derail his 60% board because they are both very different.

It will be available soon in both Matias Clicky and Quiet variants.

I'm more excited about Matias 60% due to the low profile - but it has been such a long dry spell for Alps boards I'm gonna snatch each board up.  Something to hold me over until Matias releases his 60% versions.

Hopefully KBP will be pleased enough with the sales that they will sell their upcoming V80 w/ Matias switches as well.  :thumb:

Really great to see this happening.  They're following the standard 60% layout, which many users are accustomed to (and different from ours)...

Totally agree.  Looking forward to the day when ALPS switches regain their widespread popularity.

Hopefully once the Matias PBT sets are underway and stem/stabilizer specs can be confirmed more PCB's can be setup for hybrid Cherry/Alps compatibility.

Yes, that's the goal.  i already have mounting plate samples that support both simultaneously, but it looks like they need to be thicker, so we're doing another set.  Will post photos soon...

Don't know, but I'd guess they are probably the Costar type.  You'd have to ask them to know for sure.

Been waiting for this to come out.

I emailed them a while back and asked them to try and find out, but the person could only tell me they will be the same style that Matias uses.

So far away :(  It's nice to see an Alps 60% with a standard layout and without a funky sized bottom row.  I'm looking forward to them, even though I know I'd be getting one just to  swap out the Mathias Alps for classic Alps.

This is extremely appealing.    Anything further on access to the rom?   alternate key layouts colemak, dvorak, etc are appealing on these boards.   I'd like to be able to try colemak and managed environments aren't happy about installing applications.

I would completely lose it if KUL came out with a Matias switch 87%.

Since it looks like it comes with the same exact case as the regular V60, they should fit in the same aftermarket cases (some of the dip switches will be covered).

I need someone to pick for me Matias Quiet Click or Matias Click. I currently have 2 keyboards with MX Blacks a Poker 2 with MX Reds and I gave my DS3 with MX Blues to my mother, I miss the click. On the other hand, I also don't have a tactile board without the click. I also have no problem with noise and really want to try ALPS.

The feel of the quiet and clicky switches is relatively similar. The clicky ones are pretty loud. The quiet ones are about as quiet as a mechanical keyboard gets. It’s pretty hard for someone to recommend one or the other without knowing your environment/preferences.

The people on my TeamSpeak and Mumble servers voted I go with the Matias Quiet Click so I went with that, though I think they may be biased due to me using my Blue Yeti mic from time to time.

KBP is keeping an eye on the V60MTS sales.  Not only will they consider making a V80MTS but will possibly consider carrying Tao Hao Alps doubleshots as well.

Via Email.

If anyone else is excited about this contact them at: kbp@kbp.com.tw

It took about 3-4 days to get a reply.  The more people buy these boards and hammer them with interest the more likely they will consider it.

Also - when you buy your V60MTS post photos of it and how well you love it on their Facebook page.

If I can't find topre switches I'm thinking Matias Quiet Switches rather than cherry clears will be the way to go with a 60% custom.   If the v60 had the poker 2's programmability I would have jumped on it.   went with a poker 2 for this round of keyboard overspending.

I had an ALPS keyboard before I switched to a cherry. The main reason was there were no replacement sets for the ALPS available then. Most of the GBs and vendor's sets were for cherry switches. Is that different now? Is there a hidden source of ALPS replacement sets? The stabilizers are now standardized?

There are plenty of "salvage" choices.  Those of us who are ALPS fans just tend to scavenge what we can from vintage dirt-cheap boards.  The Apple Extended Keyboard series are cheap and widely available, and give you almost a full keyset that works on many ALPS boards.

I am loving the feel of the switches.
I don't know if the mix in stabilizers is a good or bad thing. Also, the spacebar is slightly warped.

I am loving the feel of the switches.
I don't know if the mix in stabilizers is a good or bad thing. Also, the spacebar is slightly warped.

Thanks for the pics. Just got mine today as well. I will post some pictures after a type on it for a bit.

Not liking the keycaps.

It also looks like getting a full set a keycaps for this board is going to be harder due to the mismatch studs.

Yeah not liking the keycaps either, but was pretty sure that would be the case before I made the purchase.

One of my space bars is warped also.

I'm also wondering how replacement spacebars are going to pan out.

Looks like its time to disassemble the whole board and mod the plate for some plate mount cherry/costar stabs  :thumb:

Can one of you guys (red or commoncurt) measure the spacing on the stabilizers for the spacebar?  Looks pretty standard for cherry, but would be nice to confirm.

Why would you want to do that? All the nice old Alps keycaps use standard Alps-style stabilizers. If you mod the plate to use Costar-style stabilizers, you’ll be stuck with either really crappy keycaps or else an absurdly expensive one-off set from SP.

You can look at it that way.  Are there many old Alps boards that use the 2.75x right shift and ANSI enter?  Also, what about the bottom row, very few old boards that use ANSI 1.25 from what I have seen (I still consider myself new to this hobby though).

You’ll probably need to mix and match a few different sets of old keycaps to fill up that keyboard, unless you’re happy with e.g. the keycaps on an Dell AT101W (not the nicest). Windows keys came into fashion after quality had already started to decline across pretty much all types of keyboards. If your new 60% board had a 1.5 / 1/ 1.5 / 7 / 1.5 / 1 / 1.5 (the so-called "Tsangan" layout) then you’d have much better choices. There are several nice Alps-switch keyboards with 101-key ANSI layout.

A fair number of boards use a 2.75x right shift and ANSI enter.

Dell AT101 and AT101W, SGI "Granite", Apple Extended series (slightly different keycap profile)

If you use the Costar stabilizer board clips,  and file down the plastic leg that doesn't attach to anything, you can attach the ALPS-style wire to them and use ALPS-stabilized caps, or the Costat-style wire and use Costar-stabilized caps.  It may even be possible to do it with the ALPS-style clips and the different wires; haven't trried that option yet.,

Cool.  Good to know there are so many good options.  I was thinking about that for the stabilizer clips, but wasn't sure as I don't have a board with those, only costar.

If you're looking for White replacement spacebars, they are already made and in transit.  We should have them in a week or two.

A KBParadise associate stated they will contact Matias to try to acquire the new dampened linear Alps switch for another V60 board.

Got to try one of these today for a few minutes. Nice compact keyboard. Matias quiet switches are great, as always. The keycaps aren’t anything special but they do the job. The case is nice and slim around the edges, but I do wish the bottom were more compact and flat with flip-down feet instead of angled. The whole keyboard is extremely light, I was reminded of an HHKB. Seems like it would be a pretty effective travel keyboard.

Yeah... And I'm seriously thinking about buying it.

Anyone knows if those caps can be lasered? I need cyrillic letters on them...

Occasionally there are Alps boards on ebay from the UK that have Cyrillic on them.  Maybe you can contact the seller and negotiate a cheaper price for the caps.

Hmm, it's worth looking into. But lasering will be about 15 bucks... But, again, it will be engraving, not filling. I know it looks pretty nice on white keycaps, but on black...

I got one of each: V60MTS-C and V60MTS-Q. I like them both just about equally well, with some preference for the Click version because I like the aural feedback in addition to the tactile feedback. Using Karabiner software for the Mac, I have remapped my V60s to a Mac/HHKB layout.

I much prefer either Matias switch to any Cherry mx switch. Not only that, I like Matias switches about as well as my previous favorites: IBM capacitive buckling spring (Model F), Topre 55g, and Topre 45g.

I've replaced the modifiers on each board with caps from Dell AT101W boards. I've replaced the alphas on the V60MTS-Q with doubleshots from a Suntouch Jr., and I've swapped the alphas on the V60MTS-C with dye-sub PBT caps from an IBM 5140. You can also get dye-sub PBT caps from Acer 6311 boards.

Matias will soon be selling keycaps on their site, including 1.25x modifiers and spacebars in either black or white. I plan to get blank black mods and put dye-sub PBT alphas harvested from vintage boards on both V60s.
