Just to clarify - the Godspeed logo isn't exactly a simplified version of the Nasa logo, like the ones you can find on their design catalogues and stuff. I mean, it sort of makes sense to think that it's a simplified official version of their logo when you simply look at the result, because of the similarities, but the Godspeed logo isn't something from Nasa themselves or anything
- I just wanted to make this clear.
Instead, the logo I made is a minimalist/vintage interpretation of the official logo, what I think it would look like if the Apollo program had SA keycaps installed on their terminals. Like a fictional story in which the Apollo program took place in our keyboard universe and every astronaut received a terminal to use during the trip.
If you look at the project you can see Ergo von Dox, PhD Planck, etc, "characters" that I "created" (and could have been done much better) to give the project some personality and depth, to make it fun.
I try to insert the keysets I contribute to create to some sort of fictional universe, instead of directly implementing colorschemes from somewhere else into a keyboard layout, so they can have an interesting bit of a backstory behind them, like a lore or something. I'm not very good at doing this yet and never done it even remotely right, but I'm working with actually talented people who are helping me to improve. I hope to experiment with more ideas, characters, illustrations, artisans makers and actual writing a bit more in the near future. This is what I enjoy the most about our hobby, not the finished product itself, or anything else. It's my personal philosophy. I know that others have different opinions and approach what we do from a completely different perspective, to each their own.
Could I face legal charges over the logo? Who knows? But I don't think Nasa would go that far over something that was done on a microscopical scale for the sake of artistic celebration/tribute, and wasn't used to disrespect the agency, it's purposes or the american people in any way.
Apparently what you want to make is a real Nasa keyset, that features licensed american logos and stuff, and that's a bit too much in my opinion. I mean, straight out Nasa stuff. Even the names you're using are real. I don't think they would come after you, cause like I said what you're trying to do (and what I did) is just an unharmful microscopical tribute. But using the real symbols could perhaps get you in trouble, like somebody else mentioned it's in the law and stuff, so what I would recommend is do what I did and develop the idea further taking advantage of the artistic perception of the Nasa organization.
There are no limits for the imagination, you can create something very interesting without the need to use the real logos and names. But if you happen to persist in this idea you currently have going on I strongly advise you to formally approach them and ask for a real document that grants you the license to use the logos (and most importantly - the names). Without such permission this endeavor is far too risky in my humble opinion.
section is just an insight that I felt like sharing, it's not exactly related to your project but perhaps it can help you in your journey somehow.
