[IC] SA Hyperfuse and Penumbra Profile Fix-Kit
« on: Sat, 02 September 2017, 09:36:08 »
Howdy,

Hyperfuse is probably my favorite colorway but it has always bothered be that the SA Hyperfuse profile run by Oco was 1-2-3-3-4-4 and not 1-1-2-3-4-4.
Just looking to see how many people would be in for a "Profile Fix-Kit." It would contain the red R1 and R2 rows from the image below. (note it is the DSA image from Oco)

52 keys for Hyperfuse and 51 keys for Penumbra.

Thanks to Oblotzky for the renders.

Would love to join, how about adding Penumbra too? At least it's mods so it can be mixed with Carbon/Godspeed to get Penumbra Solarized

Agreed. I’d be in for both Hyperfuse and Penumbra.

BTW there are also no R1 INS HOME PAGE UP (edit, these would be covered already with the fix kit) DEL END PAGE DOWN for 96key and similar. Maybe this kit could add some previously unsupported layouts? But gotta be careful not to turn this into a 100$ extension kit

The mockup in the OP is from DSA HyperFuse. The SA version shows a few more keys for 1800 layout support which need to be fixed as well:
- numpad minus which needs to be R2 (Edit: already included)
- Del End PgDn needed in R1 as Oblotzky said

Would love to join, how about adding Penumbra too? At least it's mods so it can be mixed with Carbon/Godspeed to get Penumbra Solarized

Originative currently have Solarized Penumbra on pre-order with the "fixed" profile (11 2 3 4 4). Does someone know if they have also planned to have a full SA HyperFuse with a corrected profile made?

Aren’t there are unresolved ‘ownership’ issues around Hyperfuse?

Also for those talking about Penumbra

  • there are definitely unresolved ownership issues around Penumbra
  • to which sculpt would you try to correct it, standard 1‐1‐2‐3‐4‐4 or the R1 1‐2‐3‐3‐3‐4?

OP states he want's 112344, which makes the most sense

As to colorways, while I agree OCO should be keeping the 'rights' to rerun these sets, this is an option they are not offering. Plus, it does not reduce future revenue stream because this is not a full set, merely an alternative profile fix for existing and mostly sold out sets. The same way I am not offering a R4 bottom row for Oblivion. If you want to run a GB that offers an alternative bottom row, go for it!

On with the show, I guess 25 units is realistic to achieve

The RETURN keys are there because ENTER sucks. Also snuck in a FUNCTION key, CTRL already exists for that spot. Did I miss anything?

Well if we’re adding keys, a 1u blue legend FN key and 1u orange legend ‘del’ or 'backspace’ key would seal the deal for me ;)

See: my post in the GMK expansion kit thread

Would Ctrl+Alt be amenable to an expansion kit for the SA Penumbra group buy? Tentative kit:

Show Image

It’s missing fewer keys, but I know I’m not the only person (not even close) who would like Solarized alphas. If you made the fourth row R3 profile and included R3 shifts (1.25×, 1.75×, two 2.25×, 2.75×) for the second round it would be compatible with both rounds.

Orange 1u BACK SPACE and blue 1u FN makes sense, but orange DEL? not so much IMO. Also 1u BACK SPACE for HF then. 1u CTRL 1u ALT could also be an option, but I think we're starting to look at separating the kits then

Yeah I really just want either/or, to support 60% split backspace layouts.

I think you hit it pretty square on. Only thing I can think of else to be added would be accent color arrow keys.

Edit:
I'll be posting the IC on r/mm 4-5 Sept for those who don't browse GH. Assuming things go well, I'll contact SP and Oco and maybe generate an email sign up google form.

If this went through to GB I would be in and then track down a SA HF set. I never used the profile that it comes in from OCO but the one you propose here is so comfy.

Although I don't disagree with most of what you are saying, BunnyLake was the one who created hyperfuse and it would be nice to let him have a cut on this decision.  I don't personally agree with people re-running sets created by others without permission, but that subject is long moot by now.  But for someone that has brought so much to this community, its common decency to at least give him the chance to say yes or no.

We will see :) I don't really want this kit to break the bank. Reddit has requested split backspace support as well (R2 1.5u Backspace/Delete and R1 1u \|). I'll try to figure out everything when requesting quotes from SP about $/key.

Also agree that a blue 1u FN should be added to Penumbra. R1 1u backspace and R1 1u |\ would also be nice.

No problem, I'm in either way. Are you planning bundling Hyperfuse and Penumbra sets together, or will they be offered as two separate kits?

Depends on what SP says I'm guessing but I want separate kits run at the same time. I feel that's the best option because I'm sure there's people like me who only have one of the kits and do not need the other.

So what did we want to change? R1 1u \| and BACK SPACE keys? 1x R4 1u ALT and 1x R4 1u CTRL?

I think those (I prefer the 1u backspace to be an arrow) and R2 1.5u Delete? My 1.5u Delete is R3 and I think I've seen others say this as well.

The only other things I think that could be added should be voted on would be a return key in the mint on purple and accent colored arrows both mint and purple.

Why would you want an icon among what is otherwise a text-only-mods set :/ (well apart from the arrow keys)

I'm unsure about the accent 1u ALT key in the Penumbra kit, I would say the pink 1u CTRL is RCS, but the yellow? It has a tint of green IRL, so I'm not sure if YCE that I picked here is the right one. I kinda doubt they used a custom color...

Also removed the 1u + key from numpad, that one is only needed as R3 not R2 and as such already present in the original set.
52 keys for Hyperfuse, 51 keys for Penumbra

Ah true. I've never looked at the 1u backspace besides my jukebox set which was an arrow. After looking at my other sets for 1u backspace, I kinda lean towards SA Valentine's "BKSP" for the 1u to reduce the cluttered look, but since the other 1u keys are two liners, I like the two line backspace. Sweet renders :)

1u FN key with blue legend and 1u backspace with red or orange would be lovely
Got you in V3.

More accent keys would be great! I really like the arrow cluster idea
I'm going to include this in the query to SP to see the price differential. Trying to keep the set value as low as possible.
Quote
Accented ISO + Ortho support please
Accent ISO - Check
Ortho - Can be looked at when quoting to SP. Might have to been run as a separate kit as I suspect the interest would be low <10? Including it in the kit would increase the price for everyone who doesn't need it :/ We will see though. Really trying to keep the kit as low priced as possible.

I know you don't have actual prices but roughly what kind of cost would we be looking at?

I have no idea. Completely guessing here, but I'm thinking it will be in the range of $1-1.50/key with like a 50 MOQ. So set wise, in the ballpark of $50-75. I would lean towards the higher end if anything. I'll be emailing them Monday and hopefully get some concrete numbers and have them in the OP.

Quoting updates:

Melissa has informed me that I need permission to run the sets from the designers. I'm trying to find out whether that is Oco or individuals like BunnyLake and whoever designed Penumbra.

We already have the go from BunnyLake, but I have not looked into Penumbras origins. Waiting on Melissas response and will reach out to Oco if needed.

Edit: looks like BunnyLake ran OG Penumbra as well on CtrlAlt.

Edit 2: getting approval through proper channels now.

Ctrl Alt ran OG Penumbra; "Ryan Uber" designed/came up with the idea so best bet would be contacting bunnylake and seeing if he can talk to Ryan, because I don't think he's active?

Oco have only reran sets, they didn't design anything.

SA Penumbra was designed by Ryan Uber, BunnyLake ran the GB. Since Ryan Uber is rarely online, I think Bunny is the one in charge.

I've sent Bunny another pm with the updates from Melissa. She told me Bunny would be able to give permission for both.

See above quote. Bunny said if I needed any help to feel free and ask so I've asked him to contact Melissa and now we wait.

Any progress here?
Waiting on official permission through Bunny to SP to run this. Otherwise, Melissa from SP said it will not be run without approval from the designer (Bunny).

Edit 12 Oct: Asking Melissa to contact bunny directly instead of vice versa per bunny's direction. Hopeful to hear something today or next week considering they work Monday-Thursday.

Quotes have been added to OP. I will update the current interest numbers for each kit as well sometime later tonight.

Edit:

Quote
Can you add Colemak /Dvorak support?
Currently, no. Just sticking to the basic fix-kit.

Quote
What is the possible shipment date?
Summer 2018.

Can you run Non-solarized and solarized Penumbra? I bought both D:
No need to run solarized per Oco "Pre-Order: Ships March 2018. All Alphas are Grey on White instead of Yellow. Rows will be 1-1-2-3-4-4."

I feel the same. I was hoping for $50-75 range and it seems doable.

Current numbers:
35 Hyperfuse
30 Penumbra

Well it looks like we can shoot for 50 units then? Don't forget we only have a customer base of like 250 per set or so, not quite sure how many sets OCO really stocked, but I think it was in the 200-300 unit range.

Is Melissa still waiting on permission from BunnyLake or was her releasing the pricing signing that that happened now?

50 for each would be great imo. Yes that is true, it was a small run as far as I know.

Melissa has received permission from BunnyLake. That was the hold up on getting an actual quote for the kits.

As far as running the GB, anyone have a time frame they would want it to be open for? (Paychecks, other financial responsibilities, etc)

I think if you had the buy open for 2-3 weeks, that would allow enough time for most to figure out a way to get the funds. I’m ready whenever.

I don't mind either how long it is. I think the important bit is getting those 50 units covered, so extending is fine for me if needed.

I need to contact paypal and see if there is a limit at which they place a hold on the money if over X amount. But other than that, I should be able to open up a GB google form and ideally, will not proceed with the order until we get at least 50 for both sets. At that point, I would announce the GB will be open for X amount of days left as we have hit the MOQ we aimed for.

edit: Setting up the GB OP. If anyone has any changes they would like to see, quote and edit :) thanks

Howdy,

Google Form:

Hyperfuse and Penumbra profile fix-kits are designed to add the 1-1-2-3-4-4 profile to the as run 1-2-3-3-4-4. We are shooting for 50 MOQ. If we do not reach 50, I will be posting in the thread and/or emailing the participants if they wanted to proceed on with the 25 MOQ price.

Time frame: Now until 50 MOQ for each are met. After we hit 50, I would announce an X day period, if it has been open already for a few weeks, until closing the GB.

The Kits: 52 keys for Hyperfuse and 51 keys for Penumbra.

Pricing:
Hyperfuse Fix kit
25 sets - $105.04 per set
50 sets - $71.68 per set
75 sets - $60.55 per set
100 sets - $54.99 per set
150 sets - $49.43 per set
200 sets - $46.65 per set
250 sets - $44.98 per set

Penumbra Fix Kit
25 sets - $82.05 per set
50 sets - $57.78 per set
75 sets - $49.69 per set
100 sets - $45.64 per set
150 sets - $41.60 per set
200 sets - $39.57 per set
250 sets - $38.36 per set

Thanks for doing this.  It was a let down when the weird profile was discovered.  Have no idea why it was run that way.

Any chance of running Solarized alphas while you are at it?

Yes for sure. Life's just got me busy as of late. I should be posting the GB here soon. Hopefully this week. With the holidays coming up, I vaguely anticipate the GB running through to early 2018 to meet our 50 minimum for both sets.

Edit: Please note that the original batches will most likely not be used. Melissa has said the colors should be the same even though they will be different batches.

SP orders their resin from a supplier, each batch can slightly vary from the previous one.
