No One buy RX580
« on: Sun, 20 January 2019, 15:34:58 »
Tp4 has just come out of an abusive relationship with an Ebay RX580.

DO NOT buy one..

Gaming performance is Great..

Video-Playback 4K-HDR (MPCHC/Madvr) performance is borderline Incompatible (On new drivers).

Tried 10 different drivers,  some fix here, some broke there.

Been using an RX580 for months without issue.

Ever think maybe you have a bad card, or maybe it's Windows, the player software itself or (most likely) the codecs? One of the biggest issues I saw on Windows time and time again with videos, is codecs, it's one of the biggest reasons VLC is so popular. Codecs are a garbage system held together with string and masking tape, duct tape and bailing wire would be an improvement.

It's a combination of everything..

But I have a 1060 which works perfectly for 4kHDR playback..   Saw a good deal on RX580, decided to give it a go.. Just didn't work out.

All 8bit paths decode fine,  but proper 10bit is a Beast at the moment on PC..

I know the card itself is good because it has no problems in 8bit color modes, calibrated output all work..

Unfortunately, there is only 1 option on PC for good 10bit HDR output, and that's MADVR..  The developer has mainly focused on Nvidia for the past few years because of Nvidia's dominance in market share.
