PLEASE HELP [Chattering Keys, only with keycaps?]
« on: Mon, 23 February 2015, 23:58:03 »
Hi guyys.

I own a RAZR Blackwindow ultimate. Brand new out of the box, it's arrayed with chattering keys, about 5 orr 6 different letterrss. But, when I take the keycaps off, the chattering goes away when I press the switches without the caps. any ideas why?

Return and buy something that is from a better OEM.

Seriously probably just a bad solder job.  Razer are not known for quality boards.  Just marketing hype.

Actually now that I think about it, those are cherry clones.  It could be the extra mass with the cap on the stem changes resonant frequencies.  This is just a wild shot in the dark.  Either way the board is broke.

Or could be with the keycaps on you press the switches slightly different, and the chatter occurs, but with keycaps off you are more careful, or perhaps push the switch stems straight down, and no chattering.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Agree with all the above posters. Return it for a replacement. If the replacement also does it, ask for your money back and buy something better.
