Thai user 6664's keyboard mods
« on: Wed, 19 November 2014, 11:02:32 »
Was just browsing r/MK and saw a link to a guy's Thai thread on his keyboard modifications.  I really like the black and yellow one:

No idea what it says though.

Some of these are pretty clean. Not really my style but well executed.

The pseudo-carbon plate blue alps board is my favorite I think.

I love how he swapped out SMK alps mount switches for "normal" SMK switches so he could use MX compatible keycaps.

Mixing MX-mount and Alps-mount clicky SMK switches for the sake of mixing keycap sets seems like a great idea to me, though I’m not sure the feel/sound is quite identical.

I like a few of these. Some of them... less so. Either way, the guy is good at this.

He has some cool ideas, I don't like every board but parts of each are great.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

I have to say that I like his usage of colours. Not a fan of all combinations, but these are definite eye-catchers.
But I wonder how long the spraypaint lasts?

I will only dream of modding so many boards, and with such great execution. The digital camo board is surprisingly well done, with a very keen choice of keycaps. Thanks for the find.  :thumb:

In my experience you don't have to worry about the paint on the case. The caps, though ...

That's what I assumed, thank you for confirming my assumption.

Were SMK switches made in Thailand?

In any event, that Laser board with the straight ANSI layout (no two-row enter key) and MX-mount SMK switches is pretty sweet. Most of the ones I’ve seen have silly huge enter keys.

Because it's blue alps?

Yeah, most of these aren't really my cup of tea, but you can tell that a good deal of work went into these and the guy has some real talent
