Everything seems to have LEDs/diffusers these days. It's nice to see a decent custom board without.
I say keep it simple with your future projects. There is definitely a place in the market for it and would help to differentiate you from other brands/manufacturers.
That the X60 lacks a diffuser, silly pin hole LEDs and weird shapes is what sold it for me. I don't want a keyboard that can be seen from the moon; I want something subdued, refined and pretty.
My first two projects (X60 and X75) were always meant to be simple, clean, and just functional. The aesthetic is that it's simple. I'll always have these simple designs as they're just perfect, and how I like them.
If anyone else has seen the
FMJ cases, I've been thinking of doing something similar so I don't "ruin" the simple design. By that I mean I'll have the clean design, and then I'll have an "all-out" version that involves diffusers, more experimental weights, maybe interchangeable parts (different bottom pieces). Nothing has actually been put into CAD yet, but I have a list of things I'd like to do yet wouldn't want for my case, so this would be a good opportunity to experiment whilst maintaining what's important to me and others. X65 may be the first to see this, which is why it was brought forward, but there needs to be a redesign to incorporate more, and there is more development on the PCB side so it's hard to say what will come next.
