Title: [IC] Poisson | TKL | First Prototype is in!
Post by: elvenmonster on Sun, 06 November 2022, 13:53:08
The Poisson is a top mounted TKL with options for a 'regular' top mount, as well as alternate 'leaf spring' mounting points. This is intended to allow the user some tunability in terms of flex and sound across the board. It features a low typing angle, a very low front height, as well as a low USB port for minimal stress on the cable.

Renders:

Keyboard Assembly and Plate:

[attachimg=1]

PCB:
H87-c compatible with a breakout LED daughterboard. However, the included PCB will employ some clever packaging solutions. Stay tuned!

Aesthetically, it is a 'classic' design with thin side bezels, and larger top and bottom bezels. The area above the arrow cluster is used for an LED cutout in Morse code.

Structurally, the case (without the plate, PCBs, and fasteners) is a seven part design; featuring two internal brass weights and one external/through brass weight. The final materials of the numerous components are still TBD.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: This is an extremely early stage IC, I wrote it because I was bored. Therefore, it will be heavily updated as and when I have more information to share. Prototype has been ordered, and I should have pictures before end of month is here and looks great. I do not have a price estimate yet, neither any vendors. Please follow my discord for more updates!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inspirations: Matrix Lab's number series TKLs, Baionlenja's Bias TKL.

Also, renders seem to cost over half as much as a prototype! So we wait :)

you really only posted two black and white drawings and you got people still saying it's lit how do you attain this kind of power
those 2 black and white pics show a lot of info and specs while giving me a clear view of the design.
Stuff like all the 3 front heights ppl might want to know
typing angle
design of the back, bottom and top view
aprox weight
mounting
what situation the board is currently at (first proto ordered)
a nice exploded view with all the materials of the different parts giving me a idea what it will be after assembly
while the second picture shows me how the plate looks and how the leafspring and normal top mount got realised.

only 2 pictures and I got more info than reading a 3 page long IC with 50 renders of the same angle just recolored to the different colorways, while the info is spread out so I need to use ctrl+f to even find it. If he wants he can still slap 100 renders of the same board from the same angle to the IC

Preach on, those design documents will tell us more than any pretty render.    Count me interested, can't wait to see the prototype.  :thumb:

I honestly didn’t expect it to become a contentious topic 😅. I honestly don’t mind the feedback, and can imagine why the info can be too little for some people. But hey! I will put up prototype pictures as soon as I have it in hand!

This is not gonna run anytime soon, but I intend to use GH to track progress and genuine interest.

there is enough info on the keyboard though. the worst part is that im a broke 15 yo. and i can't afford a keyboard as amazing as this yet, i know it won't run anytime soon but i still won't be able to buy, maybe if you released a 65% in unkown future i would be able to buy

I’m afraid a 65% would not cost less enough if it has the same design complexity. You can check out the Martingale, if you’re interested in a similar but simpler 60% instead! https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=116852.0

im not afraid of the price, if something like this was running when ill be looking for something, ill definitely buy. No sorry the 60% layout is not for me the major reason people buy 65% is dedicated arrows

Asking again just in case: please consider adding ISO accommodations to the plate, and maybe some flexibility for stuff like split right shift since that's pretty common in this form factor. At the moment this layout is very fixed and I feel like that's maybe the only thing I wish were differnet.

It looks like your plate does have a wide enough space for stepped or regular caps, which is good at least. Basically, I'm pushing for customisation here. Thank you!

Hi! The plate shown isnt meant to showcase the layout compatibility. It is mainly to showcase the mounting points. Of course, ISO will be avail, but I might enforce full right shift and backspace. Will also enforce 7U layout for the bottom row.

Thank you for answering, sorry I assumed about the plate. This board does look lovely, though. Personally, I'm okay with you forcing 7u bottom row and full length backspace. I would ask you to not force full RShift given this is WKL because I use the split for Windows key.

That makes sense. Will consider! These things are super easy to change anyways. Currently I am mostly interested in working on the feet, since they seem to affect the sound of boards a lot. Need to make sure that they dont sink into the deskmat while also looking good!

What about alps support, is it dropped?

Alps can easily be supported by just working on the plate design. PCB will have support for the alps pins. I don't plan to offer alps plates for any potential GB, but can make the plate file available so that interested parties can get it cut.

Great design, clean lines. I like it very much :D
Typing angle is good
USB to the right is great (not centered)
Think I'd prefer h88c (south), but 87 works as well. I'm an ISO user and would need to find some support for that through another pcb possibly.
As I understand it is gasket mount? not top mount?

Anyhow, very interested and will keep an eye on this.

ISO will be avail, don't worry. F13 will not be avail - so no H88c compat. Also the board is not gasket mount!! Its a top mount with a bit of adjustability via options for both regular and 'leaf spring' mounting points. Check out the plate shown! (It has been updated since, but the mounting mechanism is still the same).
