What are all of you using for camera equipment to capture these images?  Just curious on outlay on body/glass needed to get the high level of pics I have seen in this thread.

I tried using a dremel before but caps are way too small to do so accurately without more precise equipment. So I just clip with a flush jewelry cutter and file with semi-circular and round needle files until the fit is right. It's a good idea to practice on some blanks to get a reference point (unless you use OEM caps, in which case you can use the default keycaps for reference). Then do the cut and filing on whatever caps you have. I used black and white cherry doubleshots since they were easy to find and cheap.

I'm a photography newbie, but grabbed a super cheap bundle that included a Canon T5i body and kit lens on ebay for under $300. The keyboard photos I posted were taken with a 40mm fixed pancake lens. Any artisan macros are done with that lens and some kenko extension tubes, and color corrected in adobe lightroom using a white balance card.

In my experience, the shooting environment is more important than the camera gear. Especially these days when high mega-pixel cameras are the norm on everyone's smartphone. The biggest impediment today to getting a great photographic image is not being in control of the lighting, and perhaps more importantly, not knowing what the best lighting environment ought to be to begin with. Photography is referred to as "the art of painting with light" for a reason.

So before you rush out to buy hundreds of $$$ of new camera equipment, first learn how to properly light your subject (i.e., your keyboard), and then figure out how to control your shooting environment to give you the lighting you need. You will probably find that your money is better spent on lights, reflectors, and diffusion materials rather than a new camera, lenses, and filters.

And it wouldn't hurt to master the concept of white balance too...  :thumb:

I agree with the lighting comments.

Go as far as you can go with the equipment you have on hand, which is really quite far.

My suggestions, if you're genuinely interested in getting better, is google DIY Lightbox and get a feel for bouncing and diffusing light. You can get spectacular images with a smart phone, some cardboard, paper and a couple of $5 clamp lights.

Those CMYK modifiers match the black HHKB really well
What are those acrylic(?) stands?
In the end.. the keyboard's most grand form of existence is as an ethereal bridge between man and machine..    Each depression of the keys, evanescent.. Our transitory thoughts crashing into the web, carving canyons through the internet wasteland such that life may once again flourish..
