[GB] Satisfaction 75% - GB Ended, Fulfillment Early November
« on: Sat, 27 April 2019, 17:02:14 »

EDIT: These are now fully sold out. Apologies if you didn't get one, but you had more than 1 week before it sold out! Options will be finalized on May 20th - I'll update the spreadsheet again tonight (15th), and again on the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ak-TL8ng2dmhJuuQSQ8STyjWctciFrhVIKanwmQ1qBE/edit?usp=sharing

The Satisfaction 75 is a 75% keyboard featuring a rotary encoder (knob), and an OLED screen. The design was inspired by Pirate Captain Henry Morgan's flagship vessel the "Satisfaction". The curve in the back of the case is supposed to be reminiscent of a pirate ship.

The keyboard has all of the following features:
OLED Screen
Real time clock
Rotary encoder with really nice knobs
VIA Configurator Support and Powered by QMK
STM32 ARM Microprocessor
South facing backlight LEDs (single color)
"Burger" o-ring top mount plate
6 degree slope
Aluminum Top and Bottom, Brass plate, Brass weight
Right side USB-C
Weights 1.7 kg / 3.75 lbs without switches, PCB, keycaps, or knob
Dimensions: 327mm x 136mm x 40mm (with default knob and cherry keycaps)

Two plates will be offered, Standard and WKL.
Standard KLE
WKL KLE

The PCB supports ISO, but plates will not be offered in ISO. DXF files for plates will be made available once the purchasing period ends. The PCB will be a blue color.
PCB Layout Support

The bottom weight has some engraved artwork.

The saber will move to the right to be close to the treasure chest in production. This will make the weight look cleaner.
Blank weights are available as extras.

Every kit comes with a top, bottom, sandblasted brass plate, and sandblasted and engraved weight. Additionally, a PCB, an OLED screen (white or blue), rotary encoder, and knob will also be provided.
Each Satisfaction75 will also come with a neoprene carrying sleeve.
The brass is raw brass, its not sealed, and as such, it can patina. You can use brasso every so often to clean off the developing patina. But this should look really good with a nice patina.

After the group buy period ends, I will release plate DXF files to the public.

Pricing for this group buy will start at a base price of $399.99. I wanted to aim for lower, but the factory I ended up going with is one of the pricier ones. In return for the added expense, they meet my quality bar.

The following colors are available:
Deep Ocean Blue (Navy Blue - Pantone 2767C)
Cloud White (E-white - Extra $20 Charge)
Stormy Gray (Dark Gray - RAL 7021)
Pirate Black (Anodized Black)

Color examples and renders:

Original Prototype, Pirate Black. NOTE: DESIGN NOT ACCURATE TO PRODUCTION.

Cloud White w/ GMK Mizu (Render)

Stormy Grey w/ GMK Modern Dolch (Render)

Deep Ocean Blue w/ GMK Voyage (Render)

Deep Ocean Blue w/ GMK Calm Depths (Render)

Only 40 units of the Cloud White color will be made available.
COLOR DISCLAIMER: The prototype is not quite Pantone 2767C. The factory has not guaranteed being able to get a perfect match, but they will get as close as possible. This also applies for the RAL 7021 Dark Grey.

By default, the kit comes with the following knob:

You can choose between silver, black, and gold.

The following extras will also be available:
Extra PCB   +$45
Extra OLED   +$4
Extra Weight (Blank)   +$45
Extra Plate (Brass) Standard +$45
Extra Plate (Brass) WKL   +$45
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) Std   +$25
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) WKL   +$25
Extra Default Knob  +$7
Pearloid Knob +$13

The Pearloid Knob looks like this:

And fits best with high profile keycaps. It's also available in silver, black, and gold.

Unfortunately, due to the CITES Conservation Treaty, I will not be offering Mother of Pearl knobs. Since I can't ship them outside the US, it would add an extra layer of logistics I do not want to handle.

Finally, I'll also be offering a beautiful RAMA knob to go with the Satisfaction 75, and should pair nicely with Cherry profile keycaps. It's a Brass knob with a gold PVD finish.

There will be 200 slots for this group buy. I do not expect to hit 200 units sold, and I hope that everyone who wants one of these boards can get one, but 200 is the absolute limit of what I can handle. I'm willing to QC and fulfill so many units in an effort to prevent ridiculous flipping as soon as the GB is over. Estimated time of delivery is Late October. Shipping will be staggered, and orders will be fulfilled in the order that they are placed.

Shipping will be charged at time of purchase, based on the rates I will have to pay to ship the items.

In summary:
$399.99 Base Price - Includes top, bottom, brass plate, engraved brass weight, PCB, OLED screen, rotary encoder, knob, neoprene sleeve
200 Unit Limit, 40 Cloud White Limit
Shipping paid upfront
Estimated time of delivery is Late October
Shipping will be staggered, and orders will be fulfilled in the order that they are placed.

4 options:
Case Color (Deep Ocean Blue, Stormy Gray, Pirate Black, $20 extra for Cloud White)
OLED Color (White, Blue)
Knob Color (Silver, Gold, Black)
Plate Layout (WKL, Standard)

Extras:
Extra PCB   - $45
Extra OLED   - $4
Extra Weight   - $45
Extra Plate (Brass) Standard - $45
Extra Plate (Brass) WKL   - $45
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) Standard - $25
Extra Plate (FR4 - White) WKL - $25
Extra Default Knob (Silver, Gold, Black) - $7
Pearloid Knob (Silver, Gold, Black) - $13

Specials
RAMA Knob - $56 (Includes Torx Screw + Driver for installation)

This group buy will go live on CannonKeys.com at 6PM EDT on Monday, May 6th, and will remain open for 2 weeks, or until the buy is full.

Sound Test:

Using the Knob and OLED Features:

Fn + Knob Press changes the OLED mode (3 modes - default, datetime, and off)
Fn + Knob Turn changes the Knob mode:
Here are the modes and their behaviors:
Abbreviation - Full name - Clockwise/Counterclockwise/Press
VOL - Volume - Volume Up/Down/Mute
MED - Media - Next Track/Previous Track/PlayPause
SCR - Scroll - Mouse Wheel Down/Mouse Wheel Up/Mouse Wheel Press
BRT - Brightness - Brightness Up/Brightness Down/Nothing
BKL - Backlight - Backlight Intensity Up/Down/Toggle breathing

There are also 3 custom modes that are configurable in VIA configurator.

Fn + (Key under the knob) enters Clock set mode. It changed the knob behavior to the following:
CLK - Clock Set - Increase selected number (hour or minute)/Decrease selected number (hour or minute)/Toggle hour or minute Press the same key to leave clock set mode and save the time.
The clock can also be set in VIA.

FAQ:

Q. Where are you shipping from?
A. Rhode Island, USA. I will update the above post with shipping estimates by region later tonight.

Q. Will the RAMA cap be avail on my 6th or will it be later?
A. You will be able to buy it as an extra with the group buy

Q: What does the neoprene sleeve look like?
A. A sample is on the way, I'll post pictures when it arrives.

Q: What specific pantone/RAL is each color?
A. In general, I want to remind everyone of the color disclaimer. These are not plastic keycaps. Anodizing/e-white coating aluminum is not an exact process, the factory only guarantees that they will get close to the provided reference colors. I know a lot of you are asking for precise color codes, but it's best not to expect any precise matching.

There will be a Pirate Black, Cloud White, Deep Ocean blue, and Stormy Grey. They will be close to the reference Pantone/RAL, but they may not match exactly.

This is also why I am not posting Pantone/RAL for white/black. The white will be similar to the prototype which Jae built. I do not have the RAL/Pantone code for it, but hopefully the photos will suffice.

I will be instructing the factory to prioritize matching top/bottom case over matching a pantone. Likewise, my focus during QC will be ensuring that the top/bottom cases match, not that the delivered colors match a reference color precisely.

Wait, so the base 400 USD is without PCB? I know it doesn't make sense and is probably just a mistake, but you only mention the case parts, in 2 separate places...

I've updated the post to clarify. Thanks!

It does come with a PCB, encoder, OLED Screen, and Knob.

And then just touch me
Till I can get my satisfaction.. 75

Hope I'm quick enough for the white. Think Ice Caps would go well with a tall golden knob.

The pearlescent knob is a little taller than an R0 SA Keycap.

Those knob options look stunning, as do the boards. I can't decide on color, so I'm going to be running for the white and the blue. Setting a reminder for myself for Monday @ 6.

Are the default knobs shorter than the pearl ones?
That would be fine since SA Ice Caps are uniform R3 anyway.

This looks super interesting! I apologize if I missed it, but is the OLED screen programmable? Showing Slack/email notifications / code build status / etc there would be super neat.

Awesome design, definite buy from me.

Do you personally have a preference on OLED color? Would you think white or blue looks overall better, or does it depend on case color?

All of those things would require extra PC-side software, which I wanted to avoid for everyday use. (VIA is just used to configure the board).

If you know how to code, you could potentially add this to the board via QMK firmware. But I do not plan on writing anything to enable this.

Personally, I like both the white and the blue. But the white will match with more keysets. The video has an example of the blue, and you can see, it's pretty bright.
For example, it'd look great with a blue or white keyset, but might clash with a green one.

Ah, figured as much. Definitely agree with the desire to not require bloatware to use the keyboard, but an optional programming interface would be really neat :)

I haven't done much with QMK internals before, I'll have to play around. Maybe I'll be able to get a version going with a programmable ui, then build a little higher level python/node.js/whatever library for people to throw together custom scripts/plugins...

I am so in for 1 of this! Quick question, is it still possible to elevate the OLED screen so that it's more even to the top case? Atm the screen regressed a bit too much into the casing which might make it hard to read the information on the screen imo.

It's not possible to raise the screen. There are pins on top of the OLED breakout that will short if they are touching aluminum. The gap needs to stay for this reason - I wanted to use an OLED breakout so its easy to replace if needed.

When you sit up ergonomically in your chair, you can see the screen.

Even if you slouch a little, you can still see it.

If you slouch a lot, you won't be able to see the screen well, unfortunately.

Even better, this board can help you fix your bad posture. Now that's some satisfaction.

2 questions @upas. 1) What is a FR4 plate? 2) For the default included brass plate, will there be a different color option?

Surprised that the material around the LCD isn't going to be milled to raise it even a few mm, but the more disappointing thing is the lack of ISO.

I think that's me out, thanks though.

I think the PCB supports ISO but not the switch plate. Upas did mention that he will release the plate file.
