Title: Salutations
Post by: coralof on Thu, 11 July 2019, 12:05:23
Hello everyone! I'm Cora, from Texas, and I just recently began my journey into the depths of the keyboard community, and just yesterday finished building my first one! I had originally thought that I would be satisfied with just the one that I finished building, but I'm already starting to gather bits for the next one, so into the rabbit hole I go, I guess.

My first build is a simple and inexpensive, but I love it!
 - Geek GK61 board, PCB + plate (black)
 - Cherry MX Red switches
 - Blank white + purple PBT keycaps from Amazon

I'm glad that I found this community.  :D Previously, I had simply thought that the only mechanical keyboards available were the ones offered by Corsair, Razer and the like, and I never really liked any of those (especially the RGB and horrible 'gamer' fonts used on them). By chance I came across a cross-post on Reddit from r/MechanicalKeyboards, opened up the subreddit and began scrolling through, and was hooked; I wanted to make my own! Looking forward to meeting a lot of cool people.

Love that purple in those keycaps!

Do you find a blank set easy to use? I feel like I might get lost sometimes, haha.

Edit:
What do you think of your Reds? I went with Cherry MX Reds in my first mechanical keyboard and I think I like them, but I'm interested in trying out a tactile switch sometime!

Yeah, I love the blank set! I actually bought a knock-off carbon colored keycap set to start with that had legends on it, but when I saw the purple set, I just fell in love and purchased it immediately. I'm pretty good when it comes to touch typing (about 90 wpm), so I never look down at the keyboard to see the legends anyway, and the blank set just seemed cleaner. And I do really like Cherry MX Reds! I tested them a bunch on keyboards in random stores before I decided on them, and I'm really partial to linear switches in general. I'm already planning out my next build, and I want to try some Gateron Ink switches once they come back in stock.
