[IC] Small lube station
« on: Tue, 19 February 2013, 23:34:25 »
Is there any interest in a small lube station? I'm thinking 3 rows of 11 and bent so that the switches aren't touching the table. Or maybe even a 1 x 10...

I'm guessing the cost would be around $45 + shipping (for the bigger one), but that depends on quantity ordered.

Shoot, nevermind. I'm thinking I can get my hands on them, but I'm in California right now and the station is in Texas. I will have to look at what is available when I get back home. It's a possibility though.

Go to Harbor Freight or similar. They have them, typically open box, that you could quick measure for Beast.

Well, I could just use one of the phantom plate drawings I have and increase the size of the hole so it doesn't actually mount onto the plate or I could have you measure it and take the guess work out of it

I use an old Phantom plate as a lube plate, it works well enough for me, though widening the holes isn't a bad idea.

You also need the little diamonds (45 deg rotated squares) to sit the stems in

I put mine in ziploc containers or into the switch itself right away. Just my .02 however.

I find that if I mount a switch, unmount it, and remount it in another plate, the switch because a lot looser or it looses the tabs on the switch that hold it to the bottom of the plate. I don't really think this matters too much when it's all soldered up but I'd rather not do that.

For sure, I'm sure it would make it a lot easier than holding stems with a tweezers lubing the sliders

I'd be interested in a small/medium one, 3x10 or so would be a good manageable size. :)

If you made 1mm cutouts for the plate retention tabs, that'd be perfect too.

I might be interested, depending on price and shipping to Australia. Well the shipping is the biggest problem, might not be worth it if it doubles the cost.

A little bird told me that he has a dwg for a lube station, I'll just have to modify it and we should be good.

So esoomenona if you could get measurements that would be great, if not, don't worry about it ^___^

This should be super easy to just design, you don't need the original Korean dwg file for that. I can probably draw one from scratch in ~45min. The switch hole needs to be greater than 0.580" but less than 0.614" if you want the switches to sit in the hole without locking. 0.595" length and 0.570" width are good numbers to have the switches sit in there just loose enough so it doesn't lock.

I find that if I mount a switch, unmount it, and remount it in another plate, the switch because a lot looser or it looses the tabs on the switch that hold it to the bottom of the plate. I don't really think this matters too much when it's all soldered up but I'd rather not do that.

When you mount the switches on, push in the plastic locking tabs as you put the switches in the hole instead of letting the plate auto-forcing it in. That way the plastic clips won't wear out or deform and become loose.

Mini station with staggered hole spacing. This would probably be the size I'd want so it doesn't take up tons of space.

I like the first one as well! Will it drive up the cost if there's a dedicated space to hold springs or brush/oil/grease? :D

I didn't think of that, I can put it on one of the sides so it doesn't need to be bent funny like the original stations. What is the hold dia.?

On another lubing note, when people are lubing their clicky switches what lube do you use?

Because when I've tried and lubed my blues the sound isn't very uniform. I use a thick grease though, does anyone have a lighter oil based lube to recommend?

Thanks :)

P.S. I couldn't be more interested in this lube station :)

No lube on clicky stems and slider guides in the housing, only a bit in the ends of the springs to dampen ringing. My Poker came used and had light oil in the clicky stems, and the noise and feel was completely inconsistent. Had to disassemble the stems and clean them all.
