[IC] Case Spray Painting
« on: Sat, 30 March 2013, 01:12:46 »
Hey there geekhackers!

I just want to see if there is any interest for a "group buy" for case spray painting. I know everyone goes crazy over case customization!

With the soon to arrive Phantoms and all the cases being prepared for them, I thought maybe people would be interested in this:

There is a local painting shop that has the equipment and can buy the paint to do a ton of keyboard cases, I'll have to contact him and see what pricing would be like, but it can't be that much. We would have to buy the paint, but a quart of paint can do about 50 keyboards and is only $20. There is also some glow in the dark paint available if enough interest is shown.

The option for colors is nearly limitless, but obviously it would make sense to have only a few due to the fact that they're $20. I was thinking colors like Red, Blue, Green, Pink, and Purple.

Now I know you can just go buy some spray paint and do it yourself, but these are done using professional equipment and the paint is a much better quality.

He said they could also sand them, but pricing would be higher as that takes most of the time.

Please post your interest here with a color you'd like. If there is enough interest I will contact him and get some pricing! If not oh well, I'll just have him do a couple of mine :p

this all depends on the price for me.  i am not stingy or nothin but doing it myself is kind of fun too.

Yeah I'll figure out pricing on Monday, but it shouldn't be more than like $10 a keyboard or something like that, plus the paint split amongst all orders if it gets that far!

So we would be supplying our own case right? Shipping international to you and back to us? =[

I would do it myself, but I cannot find any paints here.

Maybe you could find some cases first? I think that would make more sense, or would with another GB co-coordinator who produces them as shipping internationally would kill it.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Yeah that is very true, but if I were to say purchase 20 case tops from CM, the price for you guys would be a lot higher. Do you think they would give a discount if I were to purchase them at that many?

i would buy a pink QFR case from you for sure. i am going to paint the stock QFR case sky blue this weekend. Both cases will be for my fiance's board.

do you think CCnG caps would look better on a pink case or a sky blue case? either way i want both so you got a customer here.

I think that a green case would look best with CCnG Caps :p But seriously, probably either one since they are both off colors :D

I PMd Carter from CM and he said they could probably work something out as far as a discount if I were to order say 20-30 case covers!

Does that fact bring any more interest?

dude if the cases sell for 20 and you charge 10 they will sell. qfr boards are cheap. much cheaper than a Filco so people may feel more inclined to personalize. i know i do.

I'm interested. A QF case in a cool colour would be great. Pink would be nice.

Cool! If I can find some extra money, I might just buy 20 and give the three that are interested theirs, and then just keep the rest and sell them in my classifieds thread.. I think the whole waiting thing is throwing people away from this.

Hmmm what to do.

You should see if they'd do some cases in that water-dip process.  The red skulls case at the link below is stunning.

Unfortunately they said they wouldn't be able to do that.

On another note, I'll be making this into a group buy later tonight, if you want a case just fill it out and there will be an option for a color preference. I will be only having 2 or 3 colors available, unless more interest is shown than there was in this IC.

I haven't gotten an estimate from him yet, but I will be calling them today!

I'll also put all this in the GB thread onces it's made

Of course! Keep in mind that shipping is paid by you and the price will be higher! I do have a person interested in a case that resides in Germany, so maybe a proxy would be in order?

That's cool.

I may be interested in a unpainted one too, possible? as it can't be bought around Europe.

Yeah that is totally fine! I am going to open this GB up to that possibility also, being able to just order a normal one. If there is more interest on that I will offer cases on both varieties.

Thanks!

I'm in the process of making the form right now to have a vote on colors!

Top three will be chosen, unless someone is willing to pay the extra for another color :D

i just painted a qrf case today after sanding it for a few days. kryon fusion with matte finish the whole deal. came out good, but i have a serious amount of improvement ahead of me before it looks perfect.

so now i really want something done up a little more. i will bite on this.
