GMK APOLLO

I would like to present to you GMK Apollo, a keyset that I have been working on for some time now.
Inspired by the Apollo missions, this keyset revolves around the moon. It pays homage to the greats of the past and looks towards the future of space travel. I tried my best to incorporate the colors of the moon and the dark sky into this set with three Pantone colors serving as the alphas, modifiers and accent keys.

A bit similar to Ashe, but great theme overall
The alphas look a little bit like Ashes alphas, but with a more green tint in them. I don't really see that much similarity other than that. I'm loving all these other gray sets that are coming out, it seems you can't really go wrong with making a gray keyset! I'll be looking forward to this one! That deskmat is really cool! :)

You have a keen eye! Good picking up.

Ahaha yeah, that novelty needs a bit of work. It's just that the Saturn V is so damn pointy and straight. It's hard to recreate it without looking bad. I mean there are a few options, such as removing the flame, etc. But I'll see how I should tackle this

In essence, yes. The current one shown had some continuity errors regarding Apollo. I saw this forthcoming, as the different objects don’t represent the Apollo missions as much as I’d like them to. The current one will be running separately (due to the amount of interest shown towards it) at the same time or possibly even earlier (I’ll keep the IC posted on that). A new deskmat is in the works as I’ve mentioned and that will be released along with the set.

On the enter key I think it would look more like a rocket without the flame, as it is now to me it looks more like a fountain pen.

Also, some gmk sets are also starting to include 1.25u convex spacebars (e.g. camping in japan, coral) -- putting one in the 40s kit would be insanely awesome, though making the one in the spacebars kit convex would be good too.

I love those novelties! Please don’t change them, the only one that probably should is the rocket tbh. Maybe remove the flame and have bolder lines? Just an idea.

I second the idea of a Saturn V rocket for the enter key that does not have a engine trail.
I’d also like to recommend a set of novelty modifier keys of a brownish/copperish/grayish look that show the mineral composition of the maré, which is present in some high resolution photos. Yeah I think it would look awesome with some gold-ish accents to pay homage to the moon rover. I was possibly thinking of looking into metal gold colored spacebar and escape keys etc. that could be purchased as a kit of their own.

I love the idea of this set. A couple suggestion, some of which has already been noted but I figured I’d reiterate. The mat is nice, but I’d suggest looking at the activities of the Apollo astronauts when they were on the surface- I think it was Charlie Duke who attempted to do some activities that mimicked the Olympic Games that were occurring at the time, and nearly fell over (which could have been serious injury or death). There’s someone who hit a golf ball up there as well (I’m drawing a blank on the name...).

I’d also like to recommend a set of novelty modifier keys of a brownish/copperish/grayish look that show the mineral composition of the maré, which is present in some high resolution photos. I find the way you split the set into Modules very clever: On the one hand, looking at the Command Module, the majority of ANSI users won't have to pay the "ISO tax" :thumb:. On the other hand, with ISO and numpad in the Telemetry Module combined, this extra kit is much more likely to reach MOQ, as opposed to a lonely ISO kit. AFAIK we are talking MOQ=100 here for the extra kit! Clever, this should work out fine, I am curious how this develops. (In my short time here at geekhack, I have not encountered this kind of split before.)
Oh, and can't wait to see the RAMA renders!!

I decided to make a few tweaks here and there taking into account the feedback from you guys.
Changes:
- Added a 'B' key to the base kit to support Alice users
- Revised the Saturn V novelty, removing the flame so it's thicker and less like a pen
- Final RAMA cap renders should come in soon!
- A second deskmat design is also in the works
- Arranging some collabs to take place
- Finalising GB date

Wanted to just post a quick update today:
1) Just received a sample of the artwork for the second deskmat, will update with renders soon™️
2) Getting quotes from GMK in the next week or so, I'll figure out pricing soon after, just waiting on one final kit render to finish.
3) Pricing for everything else, i.e: deskmats, artisans, RAMA, etc. is being finalized
4) Artisan collabs are being finalised, got some exciting stuff planned!

Deskmats: Finalizing the design, I’ve some of it in my discord, but after a bit of review I’ll need to get it tweaked to look better. Stay patient, but I should have it final soon.
are you going to have GMK match to Pantones? I know GMK is better at matching RALs, so you might wanna look for similar RALs just in case they have trouble matching the Pantones.
I’m using Pantones only because I couldn’t find any good matching RALSs. Chips will be sent to GMK as fast as possible to speed up the color matching process.

In all likelyhood, no, there will not be. However if you're looking for a blank keycaps set that matches the novelties (which are mod colored) then look to Keyreative's ABS blank sets (https://thekey.company/collections/keycaps/products/keyreative-abs-blank-cherry-keycaps). You might find something there.

As for the rumor, it is 100% true, not a rumor, that GMK has a new tooling machine that they have been working to set up. They have been trying to set it up for a few months now so it's only a matter of time before it starts working on new caps. I'm sure there is a lot of calibration and QC testing with it before they can start using it for actual keysets. I'm super excited for this GB and can't wait for it to start!

Yep I think I’d agree with Tyson here, the lead time should be somewhere around 8 months at this stage. But as he said, GMK has been acquiring a new tooling machine/machines so we could see a better lead time on that regard. But to be conservative I’d say 8 months.
