Do these dampen noise in the same way O-rings do? And in what ways do they stabilize the switches more?

Looking to get this for my phantom build, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to wait that long, as I already have all my phantom parts.

No.

O rings stop the switch bottoming.

These stop the top half of the switch from moving around sideways and up and down a bit on the bottom half, and making some rattling sound.  They also therefore reduce the key cap sideways movement a bit.

I've never used them but did read the threads.

Have a look at my post at the top of page three of this thread.  Click the link, download and listen to the mp3.  It convinced me. :)

I just have to determine how many stickers I want and complete the form.  :)

There are people here who have first hand experience of these and I'd have left it to them to post but I'm posting this reply as I want to place an add and I guess I need more posts.

Alls I knows is...stickers + slider lube + oiled 62g spring + clear stem = the perfect switch.  If stickers are part of the equation, stickers it must be period.

You should also try lubed + stickered + spring modded vintage blacks.(have you?) They are favorite choice for many Korean keyboard enthusiasts.

i thought the whole big deal of vintage switches were the springs.

spring modded vintage blacks just sound like regular blacks with different springs.

unless im missing something?

Well.. vintage black in KBDMania are more about quality of sliders and switch housing. Not many people I know use vintage black springs. They all switch out the springs.

Modern blacks and vintage blacks are pretty different. The latter is known to be significantly smoother than the former.

Maybe it is pretty different here in GH. (care more about springs)

is that due to a manufacturing difference or just because vintage blacks are old and worn out?

NIB vintage ones are used and preferred, so I would say it is manufacturing difference. Some people break NIB G80-2551 just to get vintage Cherry black switches.

Are these sticky on both sides, like double sided tape or just on one side in which they really only use their thickness to "tighten things up", from a mechanical perspective not from adherance.

I know they are definitely not sticky on top, I didn't even check the underside of any since they were already assembled and I was just stuffing diodes.

Thanks for the clarification !

Well, I thought so also. Now I need to ask, "why not". Other than they would be more expensive but wouldn't they do a better job?

I apologize if I already mentioned this idea, but since we are on the topic .... When I watch the video of the person wiggling the keycap that shows the switch wobbling around, hence the need for these stickers, although I now just consider them spacers, I also look at the movement between the switch and the mounting plate. I also think it would be a great idea to have a sticker, both sides with adhesive, between the bottom half of the switch and the mounting plate. There was quite a bit of slop there. And as I follow the phantom thread I know there is some switch wobble in the omunting plate due to the way the coreners in the plate were relieved so the switch could be disassembled which still soldered and mounted. The clearance that was cut into the corners significantly reduced the surface are on two of the sides of the switch. This was even mentioned in the thread about the wobble. The stickers we are buying here look fairly thick and I guess that works, as long as the switch halves snap together but I don't believe the new ones I speak of for between the plate and bottom half of the switch need to be that think since the tabs still need to clip the switch to the plate. So two questions ...

Is it a good idea to have the stickers above be double sides adhesive?

Would a double sided sticker between the switch and plate help reduce the wobble even more?

I think I have mentioned this to two or three people via PM and never got much feedback so I'll throw it out here in the wild for critique.

Thanks,
John

I have a phantom plate in front of me with switches inserted and they don't budge at all.  The top housing can still move, but if you grasp the bottom housing and try to move it, good luck and don't stab yourself with the leads.  Even the switches w/ stabilizer holes are rock solid.

doublesided tapes may work better but it would be harder to handle. Many people have hard time handling this single sided sticker for the first time(due to its shape; it is pretty thin) and it certainly requires some skill and practice to use this properly. I don't think many people would appreciate added difficulty.

First thing would be to establish that there is enough merit for using double-sided tape, if it performs just as good as single sided sticker we don't need to bother. Finding adequate factory would be the next step.

My gut feeling is that single-sided sticker is going to be just as good as double-sided one. The sticker is fairly thick resulting tight fitting and leaving little room for the adhesive to play a role. However, we would never know before we try them out though.

Why don't you make proto types using double-sided tapes with varying thickness and see if it performs well?

I've posted a second order with comment to remove my first due to a change of shipping addresses.

Looking forward to the stickers :)

As for double sided tape... that would work assuming you can cut them accurately, and aren't using them on a PHANTOM where you can separate the switch housings post-installation and assembly.

May also ruin the switch as you'd have to pry and cut away until the top half became free.

Just in case the form didn't work, I ordered 4 sheets of red .

Also:

Did you say these are $4 each?  So that's just under £3 each or £11.  Are you in the USA?  The import tax to the UK is nil if the order value is less that £15.  I'd rather not go over the £15 as the tax is 20% and there is also a £10 charge on top.

Thanks.

When you mentioned no combined shipping, that means for combining with other GB, right? Because no combining shipping for just 2 sheets seems a bit silly. I'm pretty sure this is how it is, but just had to clarify.
