Still cool, overlooked the option for tactile grays, planning on doing a spring swap anyway.

I have to do a bit of travelling this coming week, but I'll get my order in before the end of the GB  :thumb:

Also, I did a quick check and it seems MX White is only available in Plate mount format, is this correct? Are MX White switches offered in PCB mount versions at all?

Sorry, we don't have it with PCB type this time :)

Hi,
USPS in USA don't provide online tracking for registered mail.
So we don't ship it by post office.
We ship by DHL Global Mail now, but Taiwan DHL don't provide Global Mail.
So it's run by Hong Kong DHL,then go to Germany, then worldwide.
Most pack to USPS(DGM is delivered by USPS finally) is import from JFK airport(actually I haven't seen import from other airport before).
Unless use express, or they will all import NY.
But it should still faster than registered mail but cost the same.
Normally arrive about 1~2 weeks to EU, 1.5~2.5 weeks to USA.
Registered mail by post office is very unstable and can only get update by calling USPS.
It's really painful.

No carrier will ship any items free, it must cost money to ship it, include those free shipping item.
It's just become part of the item price.
That makes the shipping fee become higher than it cost when you buy multi item.
So we don't like to offer free shipping, that makes us over charge for those who buy more things, it's some kind of punishment for those who buy more, really unfair.
But customers loves it, even the total cost is higher than non-free shipping.
That makes us have to list some of our items for free shipping even we don't want to do that :(

Another issue is ebay and pp fee(Yes they also charge very high for shipping).
9% finally value fee + 3.9% paypal fee + 2.5% currency exchange fee
$0.3 is paypal fixed fee(we put pp fixed fee in shipping instead of item, that means buyer will save $0.3 when buy multi item)
$5.9*0.85*30.5 this is what we actually get :(
So we build our site recently, hope we can avoid ebay fee at least, and provide better price for buyers.

Many China seller loves to use non-registered pack or pack with only A-scan to show they did ship it.
That makes cost become pretty low and they can list item with free shipping.
But some of these seller are unbelievable bad.
When something goes wrong, it's not possible to get any info for the pack.
But, they will ask for tracking code which ship to similar area on some seller forum and use it lie to ebay or paypal.
These kind of activity makes eBay treat China seller strict although these kind guy become lesser and lesser.
Makes lot of China seller register their account on ebay.hk
But they still love non-registered pack, and refund after buyer claim not receive.
I've tried use non-registered pack before.
Rate for getting problem is too high (about 10% at least, some countries like Canada will be higher).
So we decide not to use it anymore.

2 extra pegs on the bottom of the switch for mounting onto the PCB if a plate is not present. Get PCB mount switches if you can, because it's more flexible (you can snip off the extra pegs if your PCB doesn't allow it. But if the option is not available, plate mounted switches will be absolutely fine. Most people building custom boards will be plate-mounting anyway, so the lack of pegs isn't a huge problem.

And yes I can combine shipping if you like, I'll be placing an order near the end of the month so let me know before then.

I don't understand why plate mounted switches exist, when 99% of the builds are compatible with a pcb mount, also if you use a plate.

deskthority: "Some switch types (e.g. the PCB mount variants of the Cherry MX family, and SMK inverse cross mount) have both fixing pins and plate clips and can be used either with or without a mounting plate. "

You vastly overestimate the enthusiast market and people who build their own boards. 99% of the market is driven by OEMs and system integrators, and the switches cater to them. If having pcb mounted plate means additional ease of manufacture, then that's what they will use. We are the 1%, not the other way around.

I'm talking about this gb, offered to geekhackers, 99% of which need pcb mounted switches, because they're usable with pcb and plate mount.

duynguyenle mentioned a issue that most keyboard are made by OEM factories who's using plate.
And cherry charge higher for PCB mounted switches, so almost all OEM companies won't use PCB mounted switches.
That means most orders on the market is for these factories, makes it harder to get PCB mounted switches.

Yup,
Some countries might able to order it directly from cherry.
Place order, ship, it's simple.
But if quantity is not high enough, means price will much more higher.

In Taiwan, we order switches from representative, if factory don't order it here, they won't order either.
We can order it, but switches are come with surface shipping, means it took a long time.
Not mention they have to collect enough orders to reach MoQ, also took a long time.
leading time of new orders without stock takes 25~50 weeks at least.
So for us it's not really possible to order it.

Supply chain awareness is a useful thing to have, even if one isn't directly involved in supply chain engineering or logistics management. Otherwise it could lead to a loss of perspective ("Big Picture View", as they say...)

No,
Cause cherry has representative in Taiwan.
So they won't sell me directly.
And as I heard, representative's MoQ is 960K for 1 spec.

Exactly, unless you want to order 50000, in which case just get it directly from the manufacturer  :p

No,
Cause cherry has representative in Taiwan.
So they won't sell me directly.
And as I heard, representative's MoQ is 960K for 1 spec.

That's crazy. They're crazy.
it's okay I think.
960k can only make less than 10k keyboards.
and it's not deliver in the same time.
Maybe deliver between months, or maybe over a yer(I'm not sure how long it takes)

What type of gray you're talking about?

Sad to say it, but this is an outrageously good price for Tactile Greys.

If so, that's very disappointing. I thought I had time before I made my purchase to gather up some funds. :(

OP gave me hope for pcb mount whites.  Oh well might order some plate mounts anyway since it is still a good deal.
Hi,
But we indeed have PCB white from the beginning@@
Don;t you saw them?

I checked at the beginning and there were no PCB Whites. I just ordered a few days ago and had to select Plate Whites because there was no option for PCB Whites. Can I change it?

OMG,
Everybody, I made a mistake.
When I editing the stock yesterday.
I accidentally mark PCB white available and Tactile Gray unavailable.
Tactile Gray should be available.
And white doesn't.
Sorry :(

Shouldn't have PCB mounted white.
But if somebody already ordered while the quantity is error.
I think we can cover it with our stock.

I've been trying to order 120 Cherry Whites and 120 Tactile Greys from the group buy for the last few days, but the website kept freezing mid-processing of the payment and now I don't see Tactile Greys as an option. Have I missed my opportunity?  :(

Edit: Actually, are the PCB White switches supposed to be the Tactile Greys?

Are the Plate mounted Grays sold out? I do not see it as an option on the order page. I read through the thread and looks like you guys have fixed it earlier when it was mixed up with the White switches...

So are the gray switches sold out or still having issues on the site? For Plate mounted, I only see black, blue, brown, red, white.

Hi,
Because of supply issue.(They don't have enough blue/black/red and brown switch, so we decide order them later)
So most gray haven't been sent, some of white either.
They should send next week.
Sorry for delay :(

And we might run another GB later :)

Can anyone send me a mail tell me what kind of mail you received about the shipping update?
Some tell me they didn't received but some did.

You can track all packs on 17track and post office site.
post office in your country will be the best option if it start with RR end with TW
Cause some countries' post office doesn't provide API, so nobody can get the info.
Code start with SHIAY have to go to 17track and chose "DHL ecommerce" manually.

Thanks for the explanation, was able to find my package on the DHL page. It arrived in my country today.

I did not get a shipment confirmation though, don't know why.
Also the 'track my shipment' button in the order overview does not work. It only opens a new window with the shipment number (Shipment #0000000xxx). Maybe you should look into that.

Anyway, thanks for the fast shipping aswell!

Hi,
Order #16 here. Sent you an E-Mail yesterday, about the tracking info and just got a bag full of 120 MX Whites delivered. While that's pretty dope, I ordered 240. Did you just ship out 120 for now due to the issue with the supplier, or was there a mistake?
Can't wait to use these switches :)

Although not every switches we need have arrived Taiwan.

Sorry,
Seems almost no body receive the shipping information.
We're testing the system and trying to find out what's going on first :(
My colleague will reply messages this week, it's too many and take a little to reply manually T_T

Received tracking information when I sent an email, but I think I received someone else's tracking information.

https://www.17track.net/zh-hk/track?nums=HKSPYSHIAY161124005&fc=07048

Destination is the US, when I live in (and gave the address for) Singapore.

Edit 19/01: just received my switches, in spite of all the tiny issues, glad they arrived!

When is this group buy going to be run again, and will plate-mounted Clear switches be an option?

PCB mounted switches can be plate mounted. The opposite is not true.

For those that ordered the whites a word of caution.  There was a clear switch hiding in my bag.
