How to Toggle RGB Modes with Rotary Encoder?
« on: Mon, 31 August 2020, 05:43:03 »
hello gh, i have my custom keyboard with 40 WS2812B leds and 2 ec11 rotary encoders. i am running QMK and the keyboard is working great. i can toggle rgb modes using key combinations but what i wanted is to toggle rgb modes and/or colors using the 2 rotary encoders installed. so, my question is, how do i do this?

what i want for my keymap.c but does not work:
Code: [Select]
void encoder_update_user(uint8_t index, bool clockwise) {
    if (index == 0) { /* First encoder */
        if (clockwise) {
            tap_code(RGB_MOD);
        } else {
            tap_code(RGB_RMOD);
        }
    } else if (index == 1) { /* Second encoder */
        if (clockwise) {
            tap_code(RGB_HUI);
        } else {
            tap_code(RGB_HUD);
        }
    }

when i use the above keymap, i am getting this error:
Code: [Select]

i arrived to this after a help from a local guru:
Code: [Select]
void encoder_update_user(uint8_t index, bool clockwise) {
    if (index == 0) { /* First encoder */
        if (clockwise) {
            rgblight_step();
        } else {
           rgblight_step_reverse();
        }
    } ...

i am yet to finish reading this document sent to me but i guess possibilities are truly limitless with QMK  :D

if you find yourself stuck with trying to implement something in qmk again, the qmk docs is your friend
