Title: New DIYer: Need a new Keyboard
Post by: xoftware on Tue, 20 June 2017, 17:27:08
Hey all! Hope everyone had a good Father's Day.

I intend to do a lot of DIY modding in the future, and that includes keyboards and handheld keyboards, gamepads, etc.

I'm ready to start looking for my ideal keyboard base.

Requirements:
Layout: See above, 68% default w/arrow keys
Key Rollover: Anything good enough for FPS gaming
 Price: <= $100

Preference:
 Form factor: Slim/Low-profile
 Lights: RGB programmable
 KeyCaps: Replaceable
 KeySwitches: Something relatively standard
 KeyInterface: Programmable

If I can't find at least a good enough base to start working from, I'll have to go with 65% Anne Pro, which isn't really what I want, but it's a decent fallback. Anything available? Thanks! :D

Hello and welcome!

You might like something like the Leopold FC660M (mechanical, Cherry MX)...

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1496 (https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1496)

Nice layout and reputable brand. Also comes in a Topre version (FC660C) though at a higher cost and far less ability to modify... but you get oneness with cup rubber.

The FC660M sounds like a good starting point. Welcome to GH.

Welcome! Would you be open to 75%? Many good kits in that size. About to assemble a KBD75 myself!
