46 cents a key in big volumes sounds a bit high.  I don't think Cherry Corp pays $48 to get a 104 key set.

100 sets is hardly big volume! I'm sure if you pledged to order 1000 sets a month you could barter for a better unit price.

On the side note, I'm surprised nobody requested diff. color modifiers. For example, RED modifier keys would look great on a black keyboard.

This is precisely what I voted (in blanks though).

While on topic regarding spacebar, do SP know their previous spacebar was tilting too much ?

Will the new spacebar be the same or will it be fixed :d

It was tilting too much imho

I wait for a response, if they can make the SA-family space bar in the sizes we need.

Important!

Some want a Trollface included.

The SVG file I got, is not suitable for double-shooting the key.

The reason is that there must ne certain minimum distances between lines:
0.008" or .2mm are required.

I will not help in creation of the SVG files, because I'm not interested in these keys. If you want them, make sure I get a suitable SVG file which I can forward to SP.

The same for the keyboard key.
The same for the a with dots key (had forgotten its name)

The only key for which I have suitable SVG-s, is the Awesome face.

Please organise these things on your own, I will only forward the SVS-s and include these keys to the pricelist, because I haven't got so much time, as some might think.

If you don't like to scratch you key caps, you should use the 'wanna switch?' toy for decoration only!

I don't want to hear any complaints afterwards.

You had been warned!

Hmm where can I order proper one to change my caps?

Also there might be tad of quality issues with that type, atleast one I got with my 6G was broken...
So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

Greek letters are unicode, too. But would require SVG-s as well.

The reason is, that they only can make a certain amount of characters and symbols.

They could do a_a instead.

I thought of including the Filco key caps puller. Elitekeyboards has it, maybe someone should ask them for a volume price. We discussed that in another thread, but it seems everybody had forgotten that.

PS: That wannna switch key puller is called Toy kit, because I allways expected it to be of very poor performance.

I never used it, except for that dirty and quite worn out Granite keyboard.

Have to get hands on one of those then. Included in order for small fee might be and option.

This is an HTML file:

Code: [Select]

Not so usefull.

Provide an SVG-file and I will ask SP to make it.

ps: There exist other programs to make SVG-s:
apropos SVG
inkscape (1)         - an SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) editing program.

I asked, if they even ship to Slovenia as it is in the dropdown list but postage shows up as 0. Shipping to Germany shows as $14 IIRC so I wanted to know, if they should ship it First Class which is cheaper.

Cheers

I asked them how much the shipping costs are within the US. The idea is to ship the key puller along with the key caps.

Nordic kit updated (Slovenian layout added)
« Reply #323 on: Fri, 14 January 2011, 14:16:46 »
Nordic kit

This kit covers Austria, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Slovenija.

It is over-full, so if you want to add your local layout and it fits somehow into this kit, you better make sure to take more than of of this!!!

Also, I would like to encourage all others from these above mentioned countries, to get more than one.

Key caps are of a high, long-lasting quality. But the advantage of having spares[1] should never be underestimated!

Are we still on track for the 1/15 cutoff? These crazy customizations are cool, but I'll be happy with just the standard and orange sets.

What is a 1/15 cutoff?

Ah yes, 15th January!

You can provide as many SVG-files as you want, but make sure you find enough folks to order them.

I will make the layout for the Symbols kit really soon now.

Also I'm waiting for some space bar measures.

I don't want to add extras anymore after the deadline,
because at one stage everything must be fixed,
and that will be by the end of next week.

Just to avoid confusion.. if we order NORDIC we're getting all of the above keys or do we have to be specific? :)

Please summarize orders before closing it completely.  If there is trouble making the 25 unit minimum on Awesome or Reddit let me know and I'll see if I can make up the difference.

Definitely a good idea to do this.  I know there are a few things I would step up for if it means the diff between an item being ordered or not.

No need to hurry!

The deadline is for adding new keys to existing kits, except for corrections, the Symbols kit (still waiting for some info from SP, which will hopefully arrive on Monday) and some space bars.

Also, until we place the order, you all can send in as many SVG files as you want.

Is Signature going to send you the results of a sample run?  I believe WhiteRice got a sample set before OK'ing the final run.  This group buy seems to have a lot of different stuff in it and I just want to make sure the quality is OK.

And small nit but they really should fix the kerning on Geekhack.  It's not like they haven't done several runs of these.
Show Image

I spotted kerning problem, too.

I will take care of that. I'm a bit unsure if they can give me printouts of how the keys would look like. I doubt they will make a full set of all keys (in one color for sure) and send them somewhere.

Deadline is only for adding kits or keys, except for the Symbols kit, which is relatively new and those novelty keys.

Please don't withdraw your vote, just because there are a bit few votes!

You can vote at any time until we place the order.

Look here: kits, which will make it.

I will send all the lists with all those keys to SP by the end of next week. Then get a definite price quote and then you can still say yes or no.

Good night!

I like most of the blanks, the blues would be great.  I voted for whites, oranges, and blues.  I hope that we get more votes for these, does anyone know of another place that this might garner some interest?

If the price is too much per set though, I'll have to cut back my votes.  I can justify two sets for $40, but one set for $35 is a little steep, especially since I voted for a lot of sets.  That would make this group buy most likely push me into the $250+ area :O.

I'm waiting for a response on what symbols could be made by SP without the need to send in an SVG file and pay $3.85 per key.

So we have to wait for the Symbols kit until Monday ...

Order-ID: TOOL
Current price: $6

Tool kit
  • Filco key puller (price might be below $5, just awaiting response from EK)
  • might be included as a free item, if a certain amount of key caps are ordered.

Don't worry, there exist other sources.

I asked for a volume discount for 25 or 50, what did you ask for?

I got a response from EK, but they did not say if they have these in stock and they did not answer my question about the volume discount for 25 or 50.

Are there other sources for the key puller?

There would be the possibility to include UK kit to the Nordic kit and sell it for $18 if we reach 25 for both kits (currently 6+9==15).

Current price is $38.88 (please notice that it will be a bit cheaper if there are less produced) for the Nordic kit if everyone takes 2.78 instead of 1. And UK kit will cost $29.16 if everybody takes 4.17 sets. So it would be cheaper to put the UK kit into the Norcdic kit (around $28 for 15 sets, or 18 for 25).

@7bit

Will you still look at consolidating kits? I have no objection myself.

Symbols kit
  • function-row media buttons for the Ducky
  • media buttons for apple users, with and without F1-F12
  • diamond, square, circle, triangle
  • ... and some more symbol-keys, where the symbols count as text.

Ducky kit
  • Color/font like old 1980/1990 Cherry key boards to match a modern Ducky 9008 (see layout below)

Symbols kit

Ducky kit

Because the Ducky kit needs special adjustments to match old Cherry
key caps, I set the price for one of 25 to $20. Also it is not certain,
if SP can make the font matching the Cherry font and the texture of the
keys will be different and there could also be a little color difference as well!

PS: I have no windows-flag and tool-chest symbols, but SP has them!

These keys mount in both directions on top of 2 switches, so specific vertical blanks would make no sense.

I will add a vertical ENTER in top-row profile. Please notice, that none of the keys in the DCS-family are entirely flat!

Do you intend that key for the left or for the right hand side?

It was part of the original lineup,
but I had never time to make a layout.

Now, here it is:

Modifier kit
  • RUB OUT and SYMBOL (stepped and un-stepped version)
  • 2xHYPER, META, FUNCTION, COMPOSE,

    2xCOMMAND, 2xOPTION, WINDOWS, and a blank (1 1/4 sized)
  • BACKSPACE, LINE (at Tab or |\-position)
  • additional modifier keys could be added.

Please tell me if anything is missing. It is not over-full!

One-Half-Mod is actually more useful than just for old Cherry boards. It also fits:

Noopoo Choc
Razer Black Widow
all iOne boards

since those use bigger 1.5 sized mod keys :)
