Question about Leopold Tenkeypads at Elitekeyboards.com
« on: Sat, 15 March 2014, 02:26:33 »
I am thinking of getting another Leopold tenkeypad from Elitekeyboards.com, but they have posted a warning on their website about them that was not there before. The warning is:

WARNING: The current batch of Leopold Tenkeypads do not output true Numberpad codes and is therefore not recommended for applications that require Numberpad code output. The keypad is still fully functional for numeric input and calculation.

Does anyone know what exactly this is, or how to test it? I have a Leopold tenkeypad already that I love, but it did not come with this warning. I don't think it will matter much for me, but just out of sheer morbid curiosity I would like more information about what this means.

Thanks,

Mia' Simmons

It sends the same codes as the numbers above your alpha keys and not the tenkey on the right side of a full size keyboard. It would matter if you wanted to do alt codes or things like macros for games.

That warning is the direct result of this thread: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=52632

Short version:

ithinkimkorean is right. Unless you use an application where it makes a difference (as I do) it is not an issue.

To test it, use their key test application available from the Support page.

There is a solution for Mac, but not other OS's.

Supposedly Leopold's newest production run changes this behavior, but Elite Keyboards had not yet received any of those.
