My not-so-pretty selfmade Game/Application Controller
« on: Fri, 15 October 2010, 18:09:31 »
after my belkin n52 became useful as a brick under windows 7
+ there seem to be no real replacement or successor
it was time to build my own

the result isn't very pretty so far:

but it works great!

encoder:
usb 2.0, 500hz, plug'n'play, full-rollover (34 keys), every key re-assignable (software)

switches used:
18 cherry mx "super blues" (no click but tactile, activate 1.33mm earlier, original blue activation bump, stiffer black spring)
1 regular cherry mx blue (the leftmost one)
1 belkin n52 digipad + pushbutton
1 cherry d4 (below the digipad)

- all switches can be reached without moving your hand

well tell me what you think
i guess i'll make a prettier one with more buttons in the future
but so far im rather pleased

i have no issue using either of my nostromos under winxp/win7 32 or win7 64. Thats great tho, i was kind of thinking the way to put the numpad pcb on there but decided against it because well it just didn't look right.

do you guys mean the n52te?
i already needed a 3rd party program just to make windows use the n52 driver
not to mention the belkin software didn't detect it either way

but glad i have something with more buttons now anyway

but i am interested in your design, though my current ongoing mod follows the one ripster did.

hm, which driver version did you use for 7 x64?
i think i had the "newest" beta from the belkin site

Those must be super clicky.

Blue Stems + Black Spring ~ Green Cherry MX

I'd be interested in more details on how you built it.

nope no click
what i did is basically fixing the movable part of the blue switch to fixed position
i used small pieces of 1.33mm isolated copper wire that i pushed in between on both sides
also superglued everything (not needed)

make sure nothing sticks out on the sides if you try it
otherwise the feeling will suck

apart from my superior keypad its still pretty much the same as the original n52
the keypad is even tilted in about the same angle
layout is like this

next version i wanna have about 30 buttons without hand palm movement :tongue1:
